I haven’t been on this forum in a few weeks so I have a lot of catching up to do. Had surgery last week and had some complications, I’ll save that story for another day. I applied for a CIC on April 24 and called since I hadn’t heard back. They put me on a three minute hold and came back four different times saying they are still evaluating. Then they finally came back and denied it. I asked for a supervisor and they also denied it. They said my CIP was too new. I applied for it in the beginning of January so it was a full three months between cards. The other reason was I had too much available credit. I am getting ready to cancel my Southwest business card. Closing date was May 3 and the payment is due May 28. The annual fee is on this statement. When should I close this SW card so I can still receive my anniversary points? I’ll also look at reducing my CL for my CF and my CSR. I reduced my CIC from 44,000 to 20,000. The business is a 15 year old dental office that my husband owns and I manage. He is not able to participate as a P2.

I am considering a big trip to the Maldives in 2022 and am in the very, very early planning stages. I have never really booked airlines with points other than Southwest, so I am a novice. I really appreciate any expert assistance. @*WDW*Groupie* @calypso726 @TinkFan74

I would like to secure 6 one way business class tickets on Emirates, and I believe one of the better point options is through Alaska Air, by a hefty margin, and the taxes are so cheap through Alaska.
Alaska Air (6) x 82.5k + $29taxes= 495k + $174
Emirates (6) x 117k + $236taxes = 702k + $1416

1) Has anyone seen (6) business class tickets released on Alaska Air for Emirates? I have been watching but am not seeing new releases, and the most I can find for existing flights is 4.
2) I am a bit leery to put my eggs in Alaska’s bucket due to the OneWorld merger and uncertainty with whether that means Emirates would even be a partner. But I would expect I’d need to book this in the next 3-6 months, so that lessons the worry some. Thoughts?

I would plan to open some Alaska Air cards and buy points at a 60% bonus (I did the math and it makes sense to me) if I go that route. If I book straight through Emirates, I see lots of 6 seat award availability and it’s an easy transfer from URs.

I am thinking Qatar Airways booked through American for the other direction.
My easiest currencies are URs and MRs. I’ll take any advice I can get.

When we booked our Dubai/Maldives trip it was with Alaska miles on Emirates to take advantage of the free stopover. I can’t say that I’ve seen 6 business class seats available for award bookings directly through the airline, much less as a partner award. If that’s the route your going to go for, I’d suggest booking however many are available on Alaska as partner awards and then hope that there are more available directly with Emirates.

If you want to book Qatar I’d do it via BA Avios over AA. Especially if you are looking for 6 award seats. AA booking availability will open up at 331 days out. However BA bookings open at 355. Meanwhile Qatar opens up availability at 361 days.

Hope that helps.

Hope you are feeling better...but how frustrating..what are your total CLs with Chase..business and personal cards...Chase does not like to extend more than 50% of household income or around $75k....you could offer to reallocate credit from an existing business card to the new card
I also make sure to pay off any outstanding balances prior to applying for a new card

for the SW card I would look at my RR account to see when the points posted last year

Great advice here. We were thinking summer of 2022, a college grad trip! Maybe July/Aug. Perhaps too wet?

I was thinking we could stick the four kids in economy (ages 7-23) or if we could get 4 in business, kind of rotate the splurge. Meaning each kid could get an opportunity in business class either on the outbound or the return.

The Meridien is a great point redemption so that’s the goal.

I am not even fully sure why I feel the need to travel halfway around the world for an island vacation. Maybe the points bloggers have talked it up so much? Sigh.

Well the bloggers aren’t wrong. It’s a pretty amazing vacation. I’d do it again.

Oh no, sorry about the surgery.

You should have the anniversary points by now, have you checked this evening?

Do you need those high CL on your cards? I would reduce to as low as you can and apply again at the end of the month.

This may be a long shot, but you can try asking if you can be approved if you move some CL from another business card.

Hope you're feeling better!

Ugh I just chatted with AmEx and agreed to a retention offer of 12,500 miles on the Delta Gold card. I didn't sufficiently prepare myself for the possibility of being offered points . . . With the $10/month restaurant credit, I had thought that any additional retention offer would make the card worth keeping (AF is $100) but I was expecting dollars. I'm really not sure how I feel about the points.

Typically 10,000 points is maybe $100. So if that’s the case you came out ahead. (If it helps to think of it that way).

I know how you feel though. I took a retention on DH’s Biz Green last week for a $75 credit. When he offered it I was a little surprised so just thought well stay good with Amex and only $20 for AF. But now I’m like should have just closed it! That card has zero benefits.

It probably is an okay offer. I had wanted to close it to clear a spot for another AmEx credit card but actually there isn't any card I especially want right now. The Gold is the only Delta card I've had so I can get the SUBs for both of the others (whatever they're called; my brain has run out of caffeine) but since we don't have any definite travel plans for the near future, I can wait on those.

My Bonvoy FNCs are still showing an 8/1/20 expiration. Does anyone have the new date? I "think" one of mine should have qualified for the newest extension.

Meeting MSR on my new Bonvoy Brilliant has been more laborious than expected. My usual helper in this, paying ahead in the electric bill, hasn’t panned out this time. Our supplier recently changed things up and they no longer accept Amex for payments. A couple other smaller charges I’d hoped to put on it...also no good with Amex. I’ll make it, but it’s annoying to run into surprises.

I opened my Schwab acct last week and it’s all set up and funded. I’m a little concerned I’m getting spread too thin on my spending across cards to where I won’t have enough spend on my Amex biz cards (Hilton and bonvoy) when I go to try for the Schwab plat. Hopefully I won’t get the pop up. Once I’m done with the grocery bonuses on the CF and vanilla plat (mid June), things should even out a bit and I can put more spend on those two cards. I’ll just wait as long as I can to apply (early dec probably) and hope for the best.

One more thing, I don’t need to close any cards before I can get the Schwab plat, right? I have two charge and 4 credit cards with Amex and 5 credit is ok now. Hoping I don’t need to close anything. I have
Vanilla plat
Gold
BCP
Brilliant
Hilton biz
Bonvoy Biz

I'm a dietitian and do nutrition/wellness coaching. There isn't a good category for it, so last time I had listed it as basically "other > other personal services" and thought maybe that was the issue. So this time I tried looking under healthcare, but there still wasn't anything close enough so I chose "other personal services > diet and weight loss center". :confused3
I would just try a different category, I'm sure that weight loss center is probably risky right now since so many of them had to close.

I'm getting a 'temporarily unable to display info' but - just on my free nights, so maybe it's being worked on. My other info is accessible.

My nights were original expiration in 2020 so qualify for the extension.
