Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

Looks like whenever they have enough supply on the other side of the state lines they've identified a mass vaccination site for those in the Northland using a warehouse (hey use whatever you can is what I say!) that can do about 2,000 per day and it will be "it will also be used to vaccinate patients from North KC hospital and the North Kansas City school district." https://fox4kc.com/tracking-coronav...uture-mass-vaccination-site-in-the-northland/ It said they hope in a week or two but it won't happen til more supply comes period (so don't get hopes up is what they are trying to say).

I thought it was interesting that for this area in my metro they are saying: "At this point, there are no plans to offer a drive-thru vaccine clinic. Doctors on the call say it’s too difficult because of the 15-minute mandatory observation time everyone is required to complete after getting a COVID-19 vaccine." but in a neighboring county on my side of the state line said in mid-December they had a drive-thru outdoor vaccine site ready whenever they get enough vaccines for that they said they'll have an observation area. I think the main difference is that one is supposed to be able to handle about 300 per day as opposed to this mass vaccination site is listed as 2,000 per day..IDK I just found that interesting.

In Sacramento, unless you belong to Kaiser, Sutter or UCDavis, you aren't getting a vaccine. They are now talking about opening a site for the homeless to get a vaccine (anyone over 18) yet for those who are the most in need 75+ or diabetes/hbp, they have no where to go. I must have gotten into Kaiser right at the right time. Now they are not accepting appointments for anyone.

My county, and the surrounding, are all still in the first tier for only healthcare workers and assisted living/elder care facilities. It feels like we will never get there.

I work in healthcare and will receive my 2nd dose of Moderna on Tuesday (1-26) but my husband is 74 and has diabetes and needed to get a shot. Pennsylvania just opened up their criteria to those 65 and above with pre-existing conditions. If anyone in Pennsylvania is looking to get a shot and can get to a Geisinger facility, they have lots of open appointments....just go to mygeisinger (and you don't have to be one of their patients to sign up on their portal) and after signing up, click on set up an appointment, click on Covid-19, click on any provider and then it lets you pick the nearest location to you and lets you schedule an appointment. Just wanted to pass that along for any fellow Pennsylvanians that can't find somewhere giving out the shots!
Thanks. You do have to be in their system to just sign up. Looks like I have to call to get him a MRN before he can sign up for an account. Closest one in PA is 2.5 hr drive but I would do it if he could get an appt.

And, I called and got him a first dose for this FRIDAY! THANKS SO MUCH! It's actually 3 hours to where they are giving out the shots. It will be a day trip for us, he went to Penn State so maybe a bit of nostalgia along the way.

Can you tell I'm excited?

I wish it was like that in So Cal. Kaiser here says "we won't have enough vaccine for everyone, please be patient". They're only vaccinating 1a tier (health care workers and nursing home residents) currently.

No vaccine for me. Unless it meant immediate return to normalcy. And it doesn’t. So I’ll pass.

The reason I "liked" your post was because of the word normalcy you mentioned. It doesn't seem to be in any kind of near future.

One of my Infusion nurses had her 2nd vaccine literally right before she was infusing me today at the hospital I go to. So I was very eager to ask (and I did) questions about her vaccine. She said she pretty much filled out papers as we do when getting the flu shot. She was told she could still get this strain of Covid for up to at least three months after this 2nd shot and could still spread the virus to others even after thus she still needed to constantly wear a mask. She was also told that there was a strong possibility that this vaccine would only cover this strain right now.

Personally for me.....that was rather depressing news. Of course right now because I take this weekly plasma therapy infusion.....I'm assuming that's why my Alpha group nor my lung doc have gotten ahold of me, yet. I guess. :confused3

NYC here .Got an email today saying moms friday vaccine has been rescheduled to next friday. Super frustrating, but at least they did an automatic reschedule.
Do they have an option for if that reschedule won't work for someone?

I’m a private school teacher in Virginia. My state opened the vaccine to people in 1b last week. Two weeks ago, my school had me fill out a survey. They submitted the names to the Va Dept of Health and the CDC. On Monday I got an email with a link to sign up for my first shot. After I filled out the info, it let me choose a vaccine location. Then I just scrolled through a few days to find an open appointment.

I get my first shot at 10:45 on Feb 10th. It was all pretty easy.

georgina...glad I could pass along this information! Where are you in the state? I am in NE Pennsylvania (Scranton/Wilkes Barre). This will be a nice little day trip but be safe...Centre County has had alot of cases! I'm surprised that UPMC isn't doing something like this also? The healthcare system that I work for is only vaccinating their employees and not family members. We are part of a chain of hospitals out of Tennessee and they are only giving vaccines to the 5 hospitals that we own in PA.

We are in northern suburbs of Pittsburgh. UPMC has no community vaccines, they are still on their own healthcare workers (and administrators apparently as there is no system yet for general public). Allegheny County health dept said even though PA expanded the 1a category, they are still focused on health care and nursing home residents only.

My DD received her first shot today. She works in the dental lab on campus and has some patient contact. I guess that got her on 'the list'. So far, she feels fine.

Side note, 25 scheduled for the vaccination did not show up yesterday. Since the vaccine was already removed from the refrigeration, it had to be administered or discarded.
Thankfully, level headed thoughts prevailed as to which course to take.
Volunteers crossed the street to an apartment complex and started ringing doorbells to find 25 new people so the vaccine wouldn't go to waste!! Thank goodness!!

I'm also in PA. Did you fill out a form , name, address and birthday, send it out and now you wait???? That's what we did with a return response of ......we'll check your info and get to you, might be a month or longer..... We sent that in on Saturday. I'm 65, DH is 75.

I hear people in other areas looking for appointments (sounds like hunting for an ADR) . I'm concerned I'm missing some step.
the form I filled out didn't even have that much info, just contact info and said they would call me to schedule. I haven't received a call yet but UPMC emailed me and said they don't have enough vaccine.

My husband had vaccine #1 this afternoon at a physician clinic associated with a large hospital. I signed him up on line after hours of refreshing. We had to call to confirm the appointment because he did not receive a confirmation email, and it wasn’t showing up on the online portal. We had to be on hold for more that an hour yesterday to confirm. The staff were organized and on time. There were maybe 8 people vaccinated during the 45 minutes we were there. He has had no side effects so far. Keeping my fingers crossed. He received the Pfizer vaccine, and they scheduled vaccine #2 in 3 weeks. I am scheduled for my first vaccine shot next Wednesday.

I am relieved we got this far. Our scientific leaning youngest daughter was quick to remind me that dad still can’t go anywhere. Yikes!

NOTE: I keep trying to fix this quote and it just doesn't work. Sorry!!!!

It's not like they "watch you" during the 15 minutes. They tell you to set the timer on your phone, and if you feel sick, honk the horn. You're directed to a section of the parking lot during this time. Nobody is actively observing. All they need are parking spaces and available EMT in case of an emergency.

The states can not use what they have and are not passing it on to doctors offices. Too much control, they need to just get it out there. The vaccine companies claim they have vaccine ready and sitting in the warehouse.

And states can not order it from the manufacturer themselves. They have to wait for the federal government to send it to them. NY state had been getting 300,000 doses per week. Then last week it dropped to 250,000. NY has hospital systems doing their own workers & some first responders. They have state & county mass vaccination sites set up for first responders, teachers & the public over 65. Local & national pharmacies have started doing public over 65. They are “getting it out there”. The problem is, they don’t have enough doses to match need & demand. Tier 1a&b total 9 million New Yorkers. And NY is getting 250,000 doses a week. 7million people getting 2 doses each = 14 million doses for just tier 1. And NY is getting 250,000 doses a week. Believe me, NY is using what they have.

I see your quote got messed up but you were speaking to my comment. IDK what to tell ya cuz that's just what they said. I'm assuming different areas are doing it differently.

That drive up clinic I mentioned in the county next to me (which will be at a hospital campus) said "An observation area where people will stay for 15-30 minutes after vaccinations. People will wait inside their vehicles with health care workers present to make sure no one shows any reactions to the vaccines." I don't know if they will be actively observing or just hovering by checking so often but given that site is only supposed to be for 300 people per day it's possible they are doing more than just telling you to honk if you're in distress.

I wouldn't mind at all a drive-up process though. Maybe as the COVID situation hopefully improves in my area, more healthcare workers get vaccinated they can spare more healthcare workers to observe people whatever that means here in the area.

But they’re not. The last numbers I saw had NY near the middle of the pack at around 50% vaccines administered. I don’t understand how they can claim it’s the federal government’s fault when they haven’t used everything they have. That’s finger pointing when you haven’t done everything to fix what you CAN control.

North Dakota is kicking it!
