Are you being forced to work because your state is still not under a stay at home order?

Would you be staying at home if given the option right now?

If the OPTION was given, no, I would continue to go to work. I'd like a paycheck and I think my family would appreciate it also. Part of my job can be done remotely and part of it can't. I am supposed to start rotating WFH days this week.

I think at least a certain number of people can be at work... keep 6' distance, wipe down work surfaces, do meetings via calls/video. Those that can WFH should, but unless it's in my industry, I'm not going to say who can WFH. So, yes, cut the number of people in a work place, but rely on those at the company to decide who that can/needs to be.

Banking and financial services and pharma, at a minimum, have essential employees that need to, as a federal regulatory matter, be in the office at any given time, notwithstanding state decrees. Unless those are relaxed, which they may be, even in lockdown states there are those that must go in (for now).

My daughter and daughter in law work for a city, they both still have to go. :sad2:
My sister works in another city and they are doing half workers one week/ the other half the next.

My husband is a loan servicer for a bank, and he still has to work. There are certain tasks he can't do from home. I suggested that maybe he could suggest that people work from home as much as possible, and rotate schedules to go in and ONLY do what absolutely needs to be done from the office (for example, he needs to print and mail checks, so I think he could prepare that from home, then go in, print, and come home). They aren't doing that, but they did send home the employees age 60 and over, and those that have conditions that put them in high-risk. DH's boss, who is over 60 (and also drives 2.5 hours one-way) is working from home now.

I just quit my non-essential job on Friday. I worked in an office reading student essays with 40+ other people. They tried to separate us and adjusted lunch so we were not all eating together but I began to feel unsafe earlier in the week. I was hoping that the decision would have been taken out of my hands by my state forcing people to stay home or by my employer sending us home to work. Neither happened so I quit for my own safety and for the safety of my family and community. I told them I would be happy to work at home if their IT department could figure things out. I'm not holding my breath on that.

Thankfully, we don't need my income. The job is just a temporary one that I enjoyed for getting out of the house and adult conversations (other than the DIS ;)). I feel very bad for everyone else who needs to continue to work there to pay the bills.

Banking is essential
But the business model can change. Closing lobbies and making everyone use the drive thru limits person to person exposure. Somethings still need to be done inside but should be by appointment only, again to limit exposure. I work at a small credit union and as yet we are still operating normally and people are still coming in and conducting normal business. I hope this changes soon, my office is very small(3 people) and one coworker is immune compromised because of necessary medication and our manager is over 60 with high blood pressure, she also takes care of/lives with her 84 tear old mother.

Certain banking functions are required by federal regulations to be done via secured networks and under direct supervision (ie at the office — and no, PC Matic at home doesn’t qualify) More corporate than branch related but probably some branch personnel are covered.

unless they call a banking holiday (which they might), or relaxe rules (which they might) ....

Why? I haven't had a bank account in 10+ years. Haven't ever missed not being able to walk into a branch. My fidelity account lets me write and deposit checks. I don't use cash so no need for that.

I don’t make the rules.

Me and my wife are both self employed. I own a car audio/accessory/window tint shop and we have to get in customers cars daily. I have made it where customers are to drop off their vehicle, we Lysol everything and wipe down the door handles and steering wheels with Clorox wipes. I have to maintain income but gave my employees the option to stay home. My wife has a boutique and her main income is paint parties. She has closed. No need to have groups of 15+ people sitting around painting and potentially infecting others.

To the bolded. We got an email and text from our bank on Friday saying that is exactly what they are doing. I normally do everything online anyhow, but at least they are trying to keep people somewhat safer.

I work in finance and we were all mandated to work from home on March 4. In KY all daycares and adult daycares were closed at end of day Friday by the governor.

Just to add, I live in Winder, GA. All banks closed the lobby. All fast food restaurants drive thru only. Table service restaurants curb side pickup. All buffets closed.

if somebody woukd kindly quote me, as this poster has me on ignore but I have what might be a solution for Mrs. Mouse...?

Have her check out www.yaymaker.com. Fornerly PaintNite.com, they are currently holding Virtual Paint Parties. While understanding the income isn't necessary, it still might be something she wants tk at least explore?

Your not on ignore. I lifted your ban a few weeks ago :rotfl2: No need for me to hold a grudge for a misunderstanding in these times.

Bank employees are generally considered essential workers - at least here in California.

What can I do? What’s open?
Essential services will remain open, such as:
  • Gas stations
  • Pharmacies
  • Food: Grocery stores, farmers markets, food banks, convenience stores, take-out and delivery restaurants
  • Banks
  • Laundromats/laundry services
  • Essential state and local government functions will also remain open, including law enforcement and offices that provide government programs and services.

Not sure exactly how it works though. A lot of office workers or executives might be working from home. Obviously if bank branches are open, their employees are still working. And they have an infrastructure that needs to be supported - especially the IT infrastructure with today's banks so dependent on their equipment and electronic communications.
