What seems like better approach, given the anecdotal experiences?

1. Find Out More -> Join Boarding Group -> If grayed out still -> My Status - Keep refreshing here only
2. Staying on 'My Status - Boarding Status' screen from the get go and keep refreshing (start few seconds before the clock turns to opening hour)

Thanks!

Just a day or two before I left for WDW I read about the grey box turning blue on the “My Status” page. When I didn’t get the red “Join Boarding Group”, I clicked My Status and the box had turned blue and I was able to get BG12. So, my vote is option 1!

I got low number BGs for 5 consecutive days last week, all using only the Disney wifi on my sad old beat up Moto phone. I got 14, 15, 6, 2, and 9. My husband was also trying each of those mornings using data, but I was the one who got the BG each time. I know that goes contrary to what most are saying on this thread, but that was my experience. I used the method of having the app open, and my clock app with the seconds showing, and nothing else. I watched my clock tick down to 7:59:55, then switched over to MDE while counting down to exactly 8:00 and hit "find out more" at that time.

So yes, it is possible on the wifi!

Someone else (if not more than one person) posted about being able to reliably obtain low BGs on an older or less sophisticated phone and only using WiFi. I wonder if there is something to this?

Regarding the rideshare-to-DHS situation: Keep your eye on the road signs. One day when we were there in December, our Uber driver would have missed the exit to DHS if we hadn't been watching and told him where to go. We were prepared, because the night before our Uber driver had gotten totally lost and drove us to the DAK parking lot instead of to AKL.

I thought I would share my experiences last week since this board was so helpful in helping me prepare for the "event" of getting a BG. All 3 days I tried I got an early boarding group. Day 1 we got BG 4, Day 2 we got BG 7 and Day 3 we got BG 12 but the first BG that day was 10.

Day 1 we got to the park much later that I had hoped and I freaked out and frustrated my entire family knowing how hard it would be. We got to the parking lot at 7:40 am and parked by 7:45 am. I was in full freak out mode as I just knew there was NO way we were going to get through bag check and turnstyles before 8:00 am. We practically ran in but did get through by 7:54 am and sat on the street on the way to RRC and ToT. I tried to show the family how to get the BG but kids were frustrated with me and half paid attention. Hubby was right there with me and kept me relatively calm. I made sure everyone was out of the app and ready to go in on my call. At 7:59:55 (Atomic clock) I told them all to get in and try and I did the same. Clicked on Find out more and within half a second my Join Boarding group button turned red! Clicked on it and Selected all in my family list and BOOM, got boarding group 4!! Each day we did the same routine and each day I was the one to get the BG. One day we were on the main street and one day we got through turnstyles and turned around and left the park as we had a ADR at Magic Kingdom. Got BG in the car exactly the same way. One day I forgot to turn off WIFI but still got the group. Using Samsung Note 10+ on Sprint.

Everyone - the best advice I can give you is to not freak out (like I did) and make your plans and have alternatives just in case. 2 of the 3 days we got the BG we had issues, on the day we had BG 12 no groups were called until 10:00 am. We had plans for another park that day and were about to leave. Another day we had ADR at MK and left the park only to be called as soon as we parked in MK. Had to reschedule ADR and it was a huge pain as ROR went down as soon as we got back to HS. Saying all this we still had a fantastic time and got to ride it 3 times. We loved the ride and it truly is an "experience", nothing like I have experienced before. I would say it is about on par with FoP and maybe even better! We got BGs on Tuesday, Wed and Thurs of last week so parks were less busy than this past weekend but still HS was EXTREMELY packed all days and GE was usually pretty packed. We did have PH as we always do so that made it a little easier for us in case of issues.

I'm a firm believer that getting a BG really is Just Random Luck.

An acquaintance of mine is at HS today. Big Star Wars fan, however, NO prior knowledge of how to attain a BG (and seeing as how this acquaintance used to be an actual friend, but got downgraded, I sure as heck was telling!:laughing::laughing:)
They got to the park in time to RD RnRC. Didn't have the app open, didn't have wifi off. Overheard someone saying to "toggle the buttons", opened the app...and got BG 67.

Is that fair? Nope. But, whaddayagonnado? :confused3

It’s totally fair - that’s how it *should* work! Glad to hear that. I always worry about people who don’t obsessively stalk the boards.

Congrats and loved the trip report! I was next to someone who was also freaking out at her family. She explained the BG process to her husband and kids and then at 7:58, her husband, asked "So remind me, am I also going to try and get this?" and she was like "Are you serious right now!? have you not heard anything I've been talking about and how serious this is!!"

Sorry for the slight correction, but it was 129 - 2/8/2020

But yes, I agree, it’s important to look at the same park opening time for the most relevant comparison.
You're right. I looked at the total number of BGs called, saw the highest, and went with THAT final number of the day! Just like everything, competing interpretations come to light! 😆

Ummm that’s totally going to be me. I’m going to think I’m being all calm but the words “are you serious right now?!” literally could come out of my mouth. Just sayin’.

And closing too, right? In April, the Park's hours are from 9:00 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. That is 11.5 hours of total time vs current 12.

yes, that is correct. I was thinking about the post more in the context of a day still in progress. But when looking at a complete day’s data, then yes, total park hours is very important.
