Disney All Star Music Resort - BED BUGS

My daughter attended her senior trip with the Washington Twp., high school from Sewell, NJ during the week of March 26-30th. Her school stayed at the Disney All Star Sports. She as well as many of her friends came home with bites all over their bodies. After a visit with her physician, it was confirmed that the bites were from bed bugs. I recently was alerted to the fact that a local school, Franklinville, had to change their hotel for their upcoming high school senior trip because it was confirmed that this resort does in fact have bed bugs. I am appalled that this could happen at a Disney resort and am concerned about staying on Disney property in the future.

You're appalled?? This could happen in your own bed at home. Yes, is it necessary to throw back the covers and check ...anywhere you stay? Sure. Always a good idea. I am sorry that this happened to the students from your school. It unfortunately has become a necessity to check for such things, no matter where you may stay. I hope by now that everyone is much better.

There are always people finding them at Disney resorts. I saw a lot of reports coming from the poly last year. It’s just not unusual to find them anywhere anymore so you do have to look before you settle in, no matter how much your spending. They just closed a school in Philadelphia because it’s infested.

Bed bugs can be anywhere, they are not unique to Disney property. They’re also not a reflection of the cleanliness of the hotel, and can be difficult to spot.

I hate to say this but there is a very good chance the bed bugs came home with your daughter (they can cling and hide in luggage and clothing which is how they travel to the hotel in the first place). You will want to check for that and kill the infestation if there is one.

Nothing new. Got to check. Anywhere in the world. No matter how nice of a hotel. I consider it a non issue anymore. We look for bedbugs no different than making sure there is toilet paper. Lol
I will say WDW/DLR is probably the best kept rooms I have ever seen. It is extremely rare at Disney hotels.

Well good luck finding a hotel then. Bed bugs are everywhere. It is extremely rare at WdW or DL. But it happens. Just have to check. I would be 110% more confident at a Disney resort than any other off property.
But again. Bed bugs are everywhere. Don’t be appalled. Just make sure they aren’t there. It’s easy.

Are you saying Sports AND Music have Bed Bugs?

I check for signs of bed bugs at every hotel I stay at ever. They run rampant in public spaces like hotels, movie theaters, and even hospitals. It's unfortunately just something you must be diligent about these days. Hope your daughter heals up and fingers crossed she didn't bring any back with her!

I've read that you should not set your luggage on the floor or bed when you first check in and to pull back the fitted sheet on each corner of the bed to see if you notice any blood specks or actual bed bugs. Is there anything else or anywhere else to check before settling in?

Feel behind the headboard too if you can. I've read they sometimes like to hide there in the dark. Also, look in corners -- and you're right, never set your luggage on the floor. If I can't leave my luggage outside, then I put it in the bathtub as I inspect the room.

You can get bed bugs from a bus. About 6 years ago I got them from a moving company. If you live in a condo or townhouse complex you can get them from your neighbors. Disney is not immune and if you let them know they will do everything they can to make sure the issue is taken care of. I've even heard of them giving families gift cards or credits to go buy clothing while took all.of the families belongings to be cleaned. This was on top of giving them a new room.

Your best bet these days is to educate yourself on how to spot bedbugs and how to do.your do diligence and not spread them or try to avoid bringing them home.

If the students flew to WDW, they could have picked the bugs up from the plane. If they took a chartered bus, they might have picked the bugs up from the bus. Or the bugs might have been No-See-Ums and not bed bugs. Disney has a bed bug sniffing dog, if not multiple dogs, that they take around to the resorts to check for bed bugs. If Disney finds bed bugs in a room, they take care of the problem immediately. It would be extremely unusual for the entire resort to have bed bugs. Usually it's just one or two rooms. Unless the entire group came on the same plane and picked up the bugs on the plane.

Delsea (Franklinville) just came home from their trip and stayed at All Star Sports. They found bed bugs in just one of the rooms for their group. That group was moved to another room. Their things were immediately removed from their room and laundered. They were given money to purchase new clothes at a nearby Target. A coworker's daughter was in the room with the bed bugs.
I had two other coworkers with a child staying at All Star Sports at the same time with two other schools. After finding out about the bed bugs in one room they asked to have their rooms checked and there was no evidence of bed bugs in either of their rooms.

Hey bed bugs are better than black widows. We always check no matter where we stay. Bed bugs are everywhere now. WDW DL. Do the best at preventing and keeping the issue to a minimum. I have no worries ever staying at a Disney resort.

I was on the web searching for this exact thing! I can definitely confirm that All-Star Music does indeed have bed bugs. We actually stayed at this resort on the exact week the original post is about (March 26, 2019), and I spent two weeks of trying to pinpoint what I was allergic to, because I continued getting welts that APPEARED to be an allergic reaction. However, after my daughter and husband began to show symptoms also, I started to wonder about bed bugs as we had just returned home from Disney. We travel alot, and have never had one issue, so I guess I just became desensitized to the issue, and got lazy about checking the beds at hotels. I assure you this will never happen again, and hope to be clear from this misery soon!

Also, Disney has been notified of the issue.

Even checking thoroughly, you may or may not spot them. It's just part of life these days I'm afraid. Disney treats for them regularly, but it's going to happen once in a while.

Sorry this happened to you. Don't let it deter you from having a good experience in the future!

They could just have easily picked them up on a plane, bus, or even in a movie theatre. Yes, Disney gets bed bugs just like any other hotel. No one is immune. They come in on other people. But they take them seriously and make every effort to get rid of them. I've noticed rooms being treated on several trips and saw the dog they use to sniff them out once. It stinks but it's something that can happen anywhere one travels.
