MNSSHP cancellation?

I already bought tickets for the October 9th MNSSHP. Based on the reports so far, I don't want to go. Is there really no way to get a refund? Even this far in advance?

Call Ticketing and explain your change of plans. The CM may cancel your tickets and refund your money.

My suggestion is to avoid these boards leading up to the party and just go, trying to enjoy yourselves. The more you visit these boards the more you end up not wanting to go to Disney. These boards can get very dramatic.

Agreed! These boards have made me question so many things before - resorts, restaurants, rides, etc. I've learned to take it with a grain of salt, take a positive attitude, and go into it with the mindset that I'm going to have a great vacation.

And while never perfect (because nothing is), I have yet to have a "bad" Disney vacation - even when it's crowded, even when I got sick, even when I was exhausted because my friends convinced me that doing the Goofy Challenge would be "fun".

My GUESS is due to reported extra-large crowds. (???)

If you read the reports, it sounds like it's New Year's Eve every night.

I understand people get dissatisfied, but I do wish some of the hostility and negativity could be tempered. Also, it might help for some context. For example, there's been a lot of talk about how long the candy lines are, but as I've read deeper, most of them cycle in 5 or 10 minutes. Or how long the lines are, but that in actuality, even most headliners are usually less than 15 minutes. Or that the waits for the character headliners are monstrous, but that other characters can be found walking around the park. It scares people away from something they've been planning and looking forward to, and maybe they should be scared away from it, but when you compare actual numbers with the plethora of complaints, maybe there's more to the picture.

But OP, my guess is that if you ask nicely and keep asking, someone will give you your money back.

In contrast to all the negative reports, I was at the first (reportedly oversold) first party and had an amazing time. My focus was completely on being with my kids. We knew going in what our priorities were and set our expectations levels at a reasonable level. There is no way to do each and every thing offered at these parties. You won't see all the characters, so pick one or two. Decide if the show is important enough for you to wait for near the front or if you would be okay with seeing it from a distance with less of a wait. Do you need to wait for the parade so you are in the front or can you show up 15 mins before and stand 4 people back? A good time is yours for the taking. The best parts of the night are the amazing fireworks and seeing all of the guests in costume at our favorite place in the world!

I was in EPCOT this past New Year's Eve and it was so crowded that it felt unsafe, so we left and returned to our resort. I expected crowds, but what we witnessed was pandemonium. MNSSHP is nowhere near this crowded - far from it.

Have reasonable expectations. What is quoted above is my experience from the first night. Nothing was undoable, but doing everything is impossible.

We have a party scheduled for 9/9 and I was on the verge of cancelling after watching the DIS Unplugged where they said how bad it was. But instead of cancelling we decided to take our break around 4 and walk back to the Contemporary to freshen up and rest. We will head back to the party around 7. The way I see it, we will avoid the overlap crowds between 4 and 6 and since there are no FP during the party, we will tour with no stress and do what we want as we come to it. If we cannot get a good spot for the first parade then we will try the second one. If that one is still to crowded we will go hit some rides. Crowd level is what you make of it and we will go in expecting big crowds and tour accordingly. If we have light crowds then it's a bonus.

I was there on August 24th & the headliners were not less than 15 minutes. It wasn't Christmas Week, but it was uncomfortably crowded & lines didn't move quickly. Absolutely not worth the extra cost or even just the aggravation of trying to maneuver through the walkways with crowds, extra lines, parade block-offs, and the train down due to the party. I wouldn't have minded the train being down during a less-crowded event, but it was frustrating at this one, as riding it to avoid wading through crowds in the dark to cross the park would have been a welcome relief.

And no, I wasn't trying to do everything. We just wanted to ride some rides, see the parade & enjoy a relaxed, fun evening, but were so annoyed by the crowds (and this wasn't even on Main Street or at the hub) that we even decided to skip the parade. We had a great trip overall, but MNSSHP was by far the low point.

Everything else from our trip (Beach Club resort, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, Blizzard Beach) was stellar. I'm not being negative; I'm being honest. When people try to stop others from sharing their honest, firsthand experiences on these boards, it waters down the boards' usefulness to other trip planners.

We were in Epcot for NYE as well. Yes, some of the lines were insane but we chose to focus on how lucky we were to be there. We did Behind the Seeds to literally buy time away from the people and we had a nice long dinner at Le Cellier. We brought blankets because we knew the grassy areas would be opened and we spent over an hour napping in the sun in an area that's usually off limits. Some people on Dis would complain about how crowded it was and some would report how fun it was to get to do things they normally wouldn't.

I think the parties have reporting from the same perspective.

What you call hostility and negativity I would call reporting on my experience, honestly, in response to a question.

Every comment that isn’t butterflies and rainbows isn’t “hostile.” Some of us respect each other enough to provide detailed feedback...oftentimes because we appreciated the feedback given by others before us.

I used to do the MNSSHP & MVMCP but as the price went up & and they cut back more & more perks & sold more & more tickets each year I stopped going. Way back I used to go to MNSSHP two times each year just to try to get to see & do everything. You were never able to get to do it all during one party anyway. With the current prices I can't justify even one party anymore. I was tempted to go this year during my solo trip but after reading the reports I probably won't. The only reason I considered it was my last AP expired in May & if I went to the party I could wait a day before activating my new AP if I bought a party ticket & took advantage of the DVC 2PM early entrance perk. I'd probably be better off just spending that $ at F & W festival.
