Restaurants Discontinuing Items...

Here are some discontinued items. Note that some of them, I'm more than happy to see go.

1. The McLobster. Pieces of junk lobster in a hot dog bun. That was totally rank. They still have it on occasion regionally.
2. The Super Bar. Wendy's. They discontinued it because it was tough to both keep it stocked and do their regular menu.
3. The Bell Beefer. Yeah. Taco Bell really wasn't thinking outside the bun. A taco seasoned sloppy joe
4. McSpaghetti. Yeah. Mickey D's had it. Still served abroad in some places. But gone here.
5. A breeze. A healthier version of the Dairy Queen Blizzard made with frozen yogurt.
6. McDonald's Hula Burger. A pineapple slice with all the hamburger fixings but not the hamburger. Designed for those that don't eat meat on Fridays. Beaten out by Filet 0 fish.
7. McDonald's Arch Deluxe. A quarter pounder on a potato bun with "secret" sauce. Turned out to be a mustard and mayo thing.
8. The McLean. A 91% lean patty.
9. Mc Donald's Mighty wings.
10. Domino's Oreo pizza. HAHAHAHA.
11. The Mc DLT.
12. The Enormous Omelet Sandwich. Burger King. Should have called it the quintuple bypass. You'd need one after eating these.
13. Priazzo Pizza hut. Essentially a deep dish pizza of the stuffed crust style. Pulled because it took way too long to cook.
14. McWraps. Too labor intensive to prepare.
15. Frescata sandwiches Wendy's. Another one that took two long to prepare.

McDonald's has gone through so many experimental items over the years - both regional and national. I remember a few locations that had pizza. It was way different since all of them were cooked to order and it took about 5 minutes as each personal pizza went through a conveyor-belt pizza oven. I remember one McDonald's location (across the street from the courthouse where I did jury duty) that had a real espresso machine. It was a big copper machine with an eagle on top, and took more skill to get right than pressing a button. This was well before any national rollout of specialty coffee at McDonald's.

As a kid, my favorite was their fried cherry pie. And technically an empanada, but they called it a pie.

As for BK, don't they now have the Egg-Normous Burrito? Maybe not the same, but not bad as a pun.

Thinking of the things I used to enjoy at Chili's. My go to used to be the Guiltless Chicken Platter. I used to also order their lunch order of baby back ribs. That was actually a great item for $6.99. It was just a half slab with a full portion of their cinnamon apples. I'd seen it a few times on a display on the table, but it was never in their regular menu. I mentioned it once when I was getting takeout and was told that it could be ordered any time even though it wasn't on the menu. A half order of ribs can still be ordered, but it costs more now and is a regular menu item.

Noodles Pasta Fresca, but I guess everyone else was upset too because they brought it back

OMG this used to be my favorite dish there. It was over one of the few whole wheat pasta noodles that didn't taste too "wheaty." I know it's back and it's now over penne and it just doesn't taste as good to me.

Hardee's used to have an AMAZING low fat twist ice cream cone.

Was this before or after CKE bought out Hardee's?

I noticed they're doing combined national commercials now. Maybe they were doing this for a while, but I really only noticed now that the NFL season has started.

This one is really weird:

McDonald's Bagel breakfast sandwiches. Does any region still have these?

It is very true for McDonalds to have regional menus. I know there are/were things in SoCal McD's that weren't available in NorCal and vice versa.

They're all over the Chicagoland area. Bacon, egg and cheese bagel with some nasty herb mayo or something that we ask for them without.

McDonald's locations have regional menus - I've seen stuff on the menu in places like Honolulu, Paris and Barcelona that came as a complete shock. Even different regions of Canada have different menus. Most of the regional offerings are time-limited or seasonal as well. Maybe that combo your DH likes is that type of thing.

The Local Favorite breakfast at McDonald's in Hawaii is my favorite breakfast ever - scrambled eggs, rice, and Spam/Portuguese sausage. You can't get it on the mainland. :(

Not sure if it's changed but the "butter sauce" they put on them was always the best part (to me). I guess they figure that California doesn't eat enough bagels to keep them here. I would always get the BEC bagel sub sausage for the bacon.

NOOOOOOOOOOO, they already discontinued my carrot raisin salad, cole slaw and lemon pie. Not my favorite chicken salad too!!!!!!!!!!

I'll never get over the loss of carrot and raisin salad! It was so good.

Taco Bell is a frequent offender as they will bring out some new thing that's really good, and then take it away. Very few of them make it to the permanent menu (some do but often under a different name). At Panera, I don't like how they changed the Italian sandwich. The old version was much better.

I get enchiritos all the time. They aren't discontinued.

I'm still mad Togos discontinued their taco salads. It's been a few years no, but I will send them occasional emails/facebook messages asking them to bring them back.

Ah, good. Now I want one!

EVERYTHING at Blind Lemon Alley. When that little hole in the wall closed, we lost a great little place!

Chilito, aka Chili Cheese Burrito from Taco Bell

I have no idea why I love that thing, but I do. Nostalgia from high school I guess. We moved recently and the location near my job actually sells them! One of the only left.

FYI - Taco Bell sells a caramel apple empanada that has a similar "crust" as the old 80's McD apple pies! Yum!

But, Taco bell also changed their simple little tostadas from just beans, cheese, red sauce, and lettuce to adding tomatoes and some sort of spicy weird cream sauce. I ask for my tostada with no lettuce and extra res sauce (the same sauce they use on the encharitos), but now, I just don't order it anymore because I used to just be able to say "Tostada with no lettuce and extra sauce" but now I have to say "tostada with no lettuce and extra red sauce, and also no tomato, or cream sauce" which usually ends up with the order-taker being super confused and the order all wrong so I just don't even go there anymore! lol

On a good note, though, I remember HATING chicken nuggets at McD as a kid, so I didn't order them for like 2 decades, and when they went to the "All white meat" formula, I realized how good they are lol. Bummed that they got rid of my favorite Hot Mustard sauce, but I like them with honey, and also ranch, so it's all good.
