I know what you mean. I've been planning my upcoming trip for awhile now. We are almost exactly two weeks out, and I have no idea what to expect. I've got family flying in to Miami from Latin America, assuming the airport is back up and running. I've got family coming from Georgia. I was planning on driving down from TN. Our rental house is pretty much surrounded by water in the Tampa Bay, so I have no idea what to expect with that. I'm trying to find an evacuation map for Tampa right now to see if my rental is in the zone A I keep hearing about. It is pretty much on an island in the bay with a small bridge connecting it to the mainland, so I think storm surge could be a concern. It is so frustrating not knowing what is going to happen. I'm hoping that everything goes well, damage is minor, and it is all cleaned up before we get there. But I guess I'll just have to wait and see. I'm not making any decisions until after I see what the storm does.
1. leave as is and hope for best
This is my plan. At this point, no one is going to offer a refund until they see what happens. I see no reason to cancel until I either know my rental is damaged for sure and won't be repaired in time or have been refunded.
2. if cannot fly we could possibly drive straight through its only 21 hrs
Have you ever done a drive like that before? 21 hrs is a long time. Unless you are use to those kinds of trips, I'd break it up and stop somewhere on the way. We've done a few cross country 20+ hr trips out west, and they can be brutal. You don't want to show up already exhausted and stressed at the start of your trip.
However, if you are use to long road trips, this may be the best idea. You will have more flexibility in deciding exactly when or if to go, and won't have to worry about flight issues that may occur after the storm. I'd just make sure your drive won't be taking you down the east coast if that is where the storm heads. Damage to those roads might turn your 21 hr trip into a 30 hr trip, just something to keep in mind. But its really too soon to tell.
3. will it be worth it to even go or is it going to rain, and be flooded, etc. for whole vacation
I've gone to Disney in Sept before and am use to the heavy rains. We usually just put our ponchos on and go to the parks and get wet. We still have a good time. We did have bad flooding one trip to the point we couldn't go to the parks two days as the water was over our feet. We stayed in the hotel, had movie marathons, played games, and visited the hotel community center. To this day, the kids' favorite memory of Disney are the two days we got rained in and spent hanging out in the hotel. You can definitely still have a good time in the rain. It cuts the crowds down and doesn't effect most of the rides anyway as most are indoors. All you have to worry about is walking from one attraction to another.
4. chuck whole idea of going cut our loses and change go to california
disneyland? We have wdw ap's could upgrade to the duel coast passes $$$ I think > but I cannot ask anyone on phone? yet till the 14th? I already made ressies got all except 1 day at present. But, haven't been west since 1995. OMG
If you check a few pages back, I noticed someone mentioned trying to switch their APs to Disneyland. You might want to pm them about what they were told. It seems like it would be cheaper to just reschedule for Disneyworld, but I get with vacation time off and long phone lines, that might not be possible. If you can change, at minimal cost, might be worth the peace of mind to do it, just to have uncertainty removed from the picture.
Hope you get everything worked out for your trip.
