Hurricane Irma?

Heading in to MCO on late Thursday afternoon, storm will be gone but not sure what to expect in Orlando. Will the airport be open after three days, or Disney? Friend who lives in Orlando thinks I will be fine. Have never traveled during hurricane season so no idea what to expect. Stay safe, everyone!

Honestly, there is no telling. This monster is unprecedented. :(

Gosh, this is so horrible. Reading this thread really makes it seem like Disney is not going to come out of this one unscathed like in the past.

Honestly I would have cancelled at this point and not re-booked until May, seriously!

And my islands, my poor St. Marteen. :(

Why May? It's a little early in the season but if you are trying to avoid hurricanes you want to go Dec-Apr.

Now the track has it shifted more west, which means much higher winds in Orlando and the Disney area than were forecast even this morning.

Assuming no damage, by Thursday they will still be dealing with all the cancellations from the storm. But if it's like O'hare, it's the poor people with the flight cancellations that will still be dealing with getting flights. Any scheduled flights should go on as normal if able. Airport may be crowded though!

I do not care for the latest model one bit. I'd been pretty adamant that we would be able to stay in our house with no problem, now we're considering leaving and heading to Disney. I'd wanted to stay with the house, but as my husband pointed out, me staying with it won't make a difference if the roof goes flying off.
this is the reason we decided to leave for Disney as well

On hold for 6 hours and 3 minutes now, there has to be a light at the end on tunnel soon right!?! No music since 90 minutes, lord I hope I'm still really on hold. Anybody else going through the same?? This is my wait to speak to guest services
I've been on hold for 4.5 hours. Still have music. Hoping to get through in next 30 minutes as they said it would be a 4.5 hour wait when they put me on.

No one knows yet. It depends on the path the hurricane takes, and the damage that it causes. I'm guessing the parks will probably be open by Thursday, and probably the airport too, but again, it depends on how much damage they sustain. You'll probably have to just wait and see.

I'm not trying to avoid hurricanes, May was an arbitrary month. I just meant later.

I'm coming this October. (hopefully)

Lol!!! Got ya! I'm coming in nov. Sometimes I can be a little to literal. A little? Hehe.

This! Last year we had a large family trip planned, taking many members who had never been to universal and WDW. Flight was the day MCO closed for Matthew, so this uber planner decided we'd all drive from Charlotte NC early the next morning instead. Usually an 8.5 hour drive. Finally got there after 17.5 hours, the first 5 in frighteningly torrential rain, detouring a long way through Atlanta since most SC highways were still diverted to flow north and lots of people were also trying to go back home. Had a pretty tense period in the middle searching for gas so we didn't run out on the way. If you are thinking about driving Sat, Sun or Mon please be very prepared to drive carefully, defensively, and gas up at no less than a quarter tank!!
While trying to keep up with this thread, I misread your post as suggesting that someone in your group planned to get everyone from Charlotte to Orlando via Uber. I thought that was quite a trip - although your actual experience was actually better than some Uber ordeals I've had (Dear Driver Ryan: Thanks for leaving me standing in the rain in Austin and never showing up after 30 minutes even though the app clearly showed you circling the block! Thx much! -ShadeDK)

In case anyone is actually curious, however, Uber says that it can pick you up in Charlotte and drop you off at the WDW gates for the low, low price of $1,237.95. Lest anyone take this seriously, this option is not recommended from a price or safety standpoint at this time. Stay safe out there everyone and hope to see you all when I arrive on Sept 17!

Well... since intently reading this tread since last Saturday and holding onto a pray that our first Disney experience would still hold, we canceled today. Set to leave out tomorrow with 2 small children for an expectedly 10 hour drive from NC. With current tracks we are looking to feel the effects of the beast here in WNC.

Although I am devestated at the hours put into planning I'm grateful. We have friends in SF (expecting parents) that are preparing to hunker down.

With that said, we were able to rebook for Christmas ( which I hear is amazing ) arriving on our daughters birthday and keep free dining. Will be keeping this a secret so it will totally make up for her devastation.

This tread has been so therapeutic for me to allow me to be devastated about loosing out on a life dream And not feel condemned for being upset about a "vacation".

I am so thankful for Tiffany at keytotheworld travel. She sat on the phone for hours today rescheduling everything. I personally have not had to deal with Disney.

Prayers to those who continue to press on with their travel plans.

We will see you in Dec, Mickey

So I finally ended up talking to a CM in guest services after about 6 hours on hold. His name was Ricardo and he was very very patient and kind!! It took quite a while to work things out because the system was going very slow, but he stuck with it! He worked all sorts of magic for me!!! He honored my free dining and was able to work us into the wilderness lodge and I ended up with a small refund too! I am almost glad I listened to the America song 50 times because it worked out so well. I am so glad I saw on this thread that guest services was doing that for people! Thanks everyone!!! We are going 9/15-9/22 so no way Jose! You better stay away!

Can I ask for a friend of mine that is on hold. How did you keep free dining? Anything special said, done, department???

I see you had TA but any info you know is useful. Seems like more people today have been successful and yesterday hardly anyone got to keep it.

Just curious...does anyone have insight on how crazy the crowds were after Matthew came through? Thanks.

Lite crowds for the 2 weeks after, we were there about 3 days after it landed for a week and they were not bad in the least bit. We are also going this year on 9/19-9/27 and hope that it's safe to go.
I also wish every one in the hurricane area luck and prayers.
