Where do you buy your area rugs?

We own a home with original hardwood floors. There also seems to be huge variability in price and quality. Where do you buy yours?

We would be fine with solid color - can you buy what is essentially carpet that's closed off on the sides?

You can buy remnants at the carpet store and they will sew the sides for you. Last rug I bought was from Wayfair.

I used to pay a fortune for them. Then I started buying them at Pottery Barn/Crate and Barrel, and now I buy them at Ikea/World Market. The super nice ones could be cleaned better without piling, but still, enough red wine stains and they get trashed. I could not tell a difference between PB and WM in quality (I'm not a rug expert though) and I've been perfectly happy with the looks and ESPECIALLY the prices. Honestly, they all get red wine on them the same, and I just felt like the fancy ones weren't worth it. I also don't feel bad now if I just want to *poof* change one. Thousands or hundreds for something that's going to get stained and boring at the same rate? I go cheap.

ETA: TBH, my cat is a puker too, and I'm not getting rid of her. After a couple of cat puke incidents, I'd just rather buy a new rug.

I have one in the kitchen from Kohl's.

The giant one in the living room and it's matching one by the front door came from Lowes. It was the only place I could find a big one with the colors I liked.

I have gotten a lot of really good ones including pottery barn ones from estate sales for dirt cheap, pardon the expression.

Our big living room rug I get at Costco.

I know our Home Depot has carpets on those big rolls and you can purchase whatever size you want with finished edges.

I got a really pretty one from a consignment shop, but it got ruined by my SO's pet. :(

I import mine from a village in China. They are all hand-made by octegenarian, blind women who have lost their eyesight from hand-stitching the intricate patterns over the decades. The fabrics are themselves gathered by virgins who have been blessed by a shaman.

I don't play around when it comes to area rugs. They tie the room together.

I purchased one from Houze (online retailer) recently. They had a great selection & reasonable prices. There was an issue with delivery and they were quick to handle the issue and refund 10% of the price I had already paid. They rug isn't the be all/end of quality but much better than what I found shopping locally for a similar price.

Capel Rugs. They have so much to select from and all price points. I didn't get to see rugs before buying and was nervous as to how they'd look once they arrived. Gorgeous!

IKEA all the way. They are cheap enough to replace rather than have "professionally cleaned." I am partial to the Adum high pile rug and the Stockholm flatwoven rugs.

Our Adum rug looks rough after 2 years. Time to throw it out and buy a new one for $150.

I've bought a few from Wayfair and Overstock. Make sure you read the reviews; that's where you will get a lot of good info on how thick the rug feels, whether the colors are as bright as the picture, etc.

I've also gone to my local carpet dealer, when I want a solid color, and had the ends bound. I have large areas and I always need at least 9'x12' or 10'x14' and they are sometimes hard to get at places like Ikea. But I do like the Ikea rugs. I also think that Pier 1 has some really pretty rugs and all are good quality. Best to catch them on a sale though.

Macys. Amazing selection, and we caught a sale, so good prices.

Just moved into a house with all hardwoods so we've been ordering a ton from Wayfair lately. So far so good. They're having a good sale right now for Labor Day as well.

OP Here. THANK YOU for all the great suggestions. Some for places I would have never thought to look for area rigs, and some for places I've never heard of before! I think we may have found our rug from one of your suggestions! Thank you!
