I was too emotional to ask at the time so can we keep flames to a minimum

First I hate that I did not think to this sooner long story short. I am on a maintenance antibiotic for uti that is how it went undeclared, so the doctor put me on one to take care of the one that I have now. I did not think much of it when he said return to my normal meds for uti after I am done. I was thinking easy enough institutions to follow. Of course the drama queen in me is scared to get back on my maintance antibiotic because I know if not detected early enough I can die

Could you possibly take a long look over what you wrote and see if you can clarify it a bit more? There are some people here with medical education and experience who can probably give you some decent input to help have a good talk with your doctor, but I think maybe they're going to need a bit more clear info from you.

Call the doctor and clarify what HE wants you to do. I wouldn't follow any well meaning persons advice on a message board. Only your doctor is qualified to give medical advice. There is nothing wrong about calling and asking. You shouldn't feel guilty at all about calling. They are there to help you. Your health is too important to post here- call doctor and get well!

Thanks everyone they do switch it around but my mom and I talked we are going to try the cranberry juice once a day

If you don't want to be drinking cranberry juice every day, buy the capsules. Apparently they're more potent than straight juice. I get mine at Costco but I'm sure you can find them anywhere. That's what I do because I'm like you, I used to get uti's all the time. I think the pills have helped.

I just got off the phone and they said I already built up a resistance and to call back next week when my primary nurse is in and they well change the antibiotic but I have developed a fear of developing a resistance to antibiotics

So, what do you want to do about your developing fear? The only person who can help you with this is your doctor.

Oh, and the cranberry juice thing? It has to be the pure, undiluted, 100% cranberry to do anything. Very nasty stuff. The apple juice based cranberry is too weak, and loaded with sugar, which doesn't help.

You can read more here: http://www.webmd.com/women/tc/cranberry-juice-and-urinary-tract-infections-topic-overview

I have frequent UTIs and bladder irritation issues, so I know the pain and discomfort. Hope you find a good solution soon.

There are cranberry pills, we have my DM on them. No UTI for a long time.

I do a maintenance dose of antibiotics for roscea, but Dr has me on 2 weeks on 2 weeks off. No resistance in more than 9 years.

You cannot become resistant to antibiotics. It just doesn't work that way. You've heard the term "antibiotic resistance" and it is a huge problem. However, it is not about people becoming resistant/immune. The issue is that the BACTERIA become resistant/immune - in other words, the antibiotics no longer kill them.

Taking antibiotics for longer than needed/more often than needed is definitely a problem (both because of microbial resistance and for other possible effects), so the on/off protocol makes sense. But there is no way to say "no resistance in more than 9 years" or "I already built up a resistance".

Gee thanks for the medical lesson. Please know the person you are talking to. Sometimes talking in simple terms while not semantically correct get the message across o_Oo_O

But if being medically correct is more important than support- go for it

The OP is confused, concerned, and worried. The message was that the thing that she is worrying about doesn't exist. How did your, incorrect, statement help do that, exactly?

You're welcome for the lesson. Let me know if you need more. I can only "know" you by what you post. And what you posted was wrong. Feel free to put me on ignore if you're worried about posting wrong information again.

Yup. I have some now (because I messed up when buying it). I've found about 3 parts juice and 1 part ginger ale (or a little heavier on the juice) is good. But I'm not drinking it for for UTI. Ironically, I bought the juice to dissolve a drug I needed to take (that I was told to crush in juice and warned that it could be bitter). Didn't realise what I had bought until I was taking the drug - well, I guess it *did* mask the bitter drug :)

Thanks everyone for your replies

Tink - I would find out what the nurse really meant about why they want to put you on a new drug. Always good to make sure that you understand what is going on with your health. If nothing else, it makes sure that you aren't worrying about something that cannot happen and it is the only way to make an informed choice.

These things can be really confusing - you will be far from the first (or last) person to ask for clarification.

Hope you're feeling better.

I hope I don't have to go again it's not cheap these days to go I hope I can stick to the cranberry or they can write a script over the phone

It well save on copay and lyft
