One Man's Dream and MuppetVision 3D

I thought I remember talk some time ago about how One Man's Dream was being closed. It's still open right now. Any idea if/when it's going to close? Or was that just a rumor? And what about MuppetVision 3D? I thought it was getting the axe as well?

I kept reading that half of Hollywood Studios is "closed down", but I'm trying to figure out what is actually closed?

And while we're at it...Great Movie Ride? Is it supposed to close too?

Just wondering how much is internet rumor and how much is legit. Also trying to decide if HS is worth hitting in December. If these three are gone, we probably won't. We have missed GMR both times we've been to HS, and my Mom said the other day, "I want to ride that thing that's always closed," (LOL!). She meant GMR.

They not long ago upgraded Muppet 3D to digital projection,

I'd not expect it to close soon.

With the expansion of Muppet influenced options I can't see them closing 3D. GMR has rumors swelling but I don't think anything will happen soon. One Mans Dream is always precarious so I wouldn't put a guess on that one.

Muppet Vision 3D isn't going anywhere to my knowledge especially with the recent increase in Muppet presence.

One Man's Dream has been rumored for a long time to be closing soon but it has never happened so can't speak for if/when that will go.

GMR is one of HS's "corner stone" attractions that while it may see more changes I don't think it is going anywhere especially since TCM is now sponsoring it.

The main things that have closed to make way for Star Wars Land are attractions that were becoming less popular in my opinion.
Backlot Tour took out the houses to make way for LMA and then made the attraction less personal by putting in prerecorded narration which drove my family away.
LMA was geared to a bit too specific of an audience for it to last all that long in my opinion.
Streets of America while a nice backdrop for The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights was becoming pretty dead most of the time when I was there.
Half the physical park may be closed down and walled up but the majority of the attractions are up and running.

Info from the very site on which we are posting...

Rumors are flying that The Great Movie Ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios may soon be closing and being replaced with a new attraction. The rumors say that Turner Classic Movies will not renew its sponsorship of the attraction when their current contract ends in 2018. The current façade of the Chinese Theater will be staying and the inside would be gutted to make way for a new attraction.

Thanks for the replies. I'm glad the Muppet presence is growing in the park. Love the Muppets. I really hope One Man's Dream is still there when we go in December. I've never gone through it, didn't even know it existed until I started reading rumors about it closing. And it looks like even the rumors about GMR don't have it closing until 2018, so hopefully that will still be up and running when we go.

I understand why they won't close MuppetVision, given then increased presence, but maybe an update is in order, IMHO. It seems a bit stale to me. I like it, but not a favorite.

Kinda feel the same way about GMR. I like it, but perhaps bring it more up to current times. Many of the movies in the scenes are 50, 60, 80+ years old now. Yes, they're an important part of movie history, but unless you're a movie fanatic, it's lost on most viewers under the age of 40. My favorite part of the ride is actually the very end when they show the clips from a bunch of movies, many of which are from the 1980s. I'd suggest having the ride focus on movies from roughly the 1970s forward to today, so it'll capture the memories of more guests.

One Mans Dream is really neat. It's not a thrill ride, but it's an interesting story about the history of Disney. I'd actually like to see them expand the movie (when they show it) to tell a bit more about the history, construction, very early years, etc... of WDW. I'd be first in line if they came up with a 30 minute...or even 60 minute...film that showed the history of WDW from the time the plans started through the first several years the park was open.

Yes, half of HS is physically closed, but most of the big attractions are still fully open. I agree with an earlier post that Streets of America was pretty dead anyway, every time we went back there it felt like we were alone.

I do think the GMR rumor has a lot of credence, and we'll see it gone in the next couple of years.

I predict all of the legacy MGM attractions will be gone within a decade, excepting perhaps Little Mermaid. I think we'll still see a Muppet presence, but something different. (Will Muppetvision still be viable in a decade when it is 25 years outdated right now?) The park is obviously heading in a new direction, a mini Universal, which MGM was back in the day. Problem is Universal changed, and HS did not. Disney has to do something to try to recapture those guests who have slipped over to the dark side.

The old MGM was an awesome place, and for awhile as a kid, my favorite park. I haven't held much hope for HS lately, but all this turned around when I finally ventured over to check out the new SW stuff. I'm excited for more.

Keep in mind that at One Man's Dream the museum part is still open, but the movie of the same name is usually replaced by a movie preview these days.

As for Muppets, with the opening of Pizzarizzo I don't think that area is going anywhere. I do agree that the attraction could use an update but we won't see one until after Toy Story and Star Wars lands are open.

I know there have been rumors for a film update to muppets but not an actual closure

I know the pre show was amended a bit

Just watched One Man's Dream on 1/7.

Good to know, but they do keep switching it out for movie previews. It will almost certainly have Beauty and the Beast in the weeks leading up to that. I'd consider myself lucky to be able to see the One Man's Dream film.

If I recall correctly, MuppetVision was the last Muppets project that Henson worked on. Would be difficult to do any sort of 're-imagining', in my opinion. But, also in my opinion, it does not need any 're-imagining' at all!

This was my first time in HS in about a year and a half. I've been avoiding it, but I thought I'd check out the SW stuff for once. Nice that they're using the theater to push their upcoming movies. Kinda like how the museum area in China is now one big advertisement for Shanghai.:sad2:

Actually that sounds kind of interesting to me. How are they advertising Shanghai? Is there a video presentation?

OK, so it's kind of interesting, but I was a bit miffed at not being able to see my statues.

There is a video, a model layout of the park, and the cases are now full of things pertaining to it. There's a couple examples of cast member uniforms, some unique souvenirs, an example section of the beautiful mosaic in the castle, etc.

Thanks Tibbs! I haven't visited the China pavilion in many years. In fact, I know they updated the film at some point and I've only seen the original. I may need to take a half day and revisit all the films, I've never seen the Canada film with Martin Short. I figure the children in the France pavilion film are probably pushing 50 by now. I think we need to find out if that couple getting married are still together:laughing:

I would be surprised if ANYTHING else closed at DHS before Star Wars or Toy Story lands open.
I just don't know if DHS can afford to close another attraction before something else opens up.

Either people will stop coming .. or the existing rides will just have way too long of a wait for a park with only 5 of them.
