Trump at the Hall of Presidents

Because I respect the office of the president no matter who sits in the oval office, I will most likely stop by. Hey, the president is the captain of my 'ship. I will be cheering on whomever has that tiresome, stress filled role. I hope we all prosper and the animatronic is a good likeness. "Honor the Office' is my motto and I love that Disney has the Hall of presidents, even if most visitors only go once.

My personal opinion is that with our country so divided politically (which it has been for years, imo), it would probably be better just to have Lincoln and perhaps Washington speak. I think Disney made a mistake (not really their fault, but who knew how controversial this would be with all the booing and catcalls?) when they asked the current office holder to record a few words. Unfortunately, many folks just can't handle that without letting their feelings be known.

I really don't think the booing is an issue right now. If it was we would hear more about it.

I get your line of thinking but I also think you're considering their decision to change the line-up as a more modern decision.

They changed it in 1993 that's when Bill Clinton became the first president to have a speaking part in their own words. That was 23 years ago (it was reopened in October 1993). 23 years ago we didn't have social media. The internet was utilized in a vastly different way. Heck I didn't even have a personal computer in my home til 1998/1999. You got most of your information from newspapers, encyclopedias, the local news, national news...but in a far different way than in a split second that we do now.

At least from Wikipedia it was a history professor that was able to persude Disney execs at the time to change their line up. He rewrote and changed the script and had the emphasis be more about slavery and ethical and civil matters, though I don't know if he was personally involved in adding in the President to have a speaking part.

I've never noticed it as an issue. There was a bunch of cheering last night. I expect there to be some very vocal guests when it reopens.

See...and I go to WDW and DL to get away from things like politics....

When on vacation, I don't look at the internet, I don't watch TV, and especially avoid the news. My goal is to live in the fantasy world Disney created, and politics completely ruins that.

Regardless of who the current president is, anyone who boos a WDW animatronic - and ruins the experience for those who came to enjoy an attraction at an amusement park - is a low life.

Totally agree. The Magic Kingdom is all about: “Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy.”

I saw this show in November, just one week after the election. When the Obama animatronic got up to speak, someone in the audience yelled out, "move over for President Trump!" which elicited some scattered chuckles and some displeased looks. It broke the illusion of the Magic Kingdom as being set apart from current events, if only momentarily. But it was an isolated incident that was clearly inappropriate, performed by one person. I think Disney does a lot to instill a dignified, respectful tone for the HOP. You can't stop everyone from breaking that tone, but I think Disney will monitor and work hard to retain that dignity.

I will definitely see it again. I think it is very patriotic regardless of who is in office. I did not care for the last update because there was some bad language included, which I found odd, because Disney's park rules state no profanity (https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/park-rules/) I do hope they change that. I really liked the narration by Morgan Freeman though.

It use to be an issue about 8 years ago. As Obama served longer it became less of an issue with most people against him just not going. Like I said I definitely remember being in the most packed HOP I had ever been in and there was vocal parties on both sides of the issue.

I fully agree about the sentiments of escapism at WDW, and Magic Kingdom especially ... though, if their is one exception it would be Liberty Square which is the one land based on reality/history (one reason I saw some people against the Muppets in Liberty Square because it ruined that reality)

don't get me wrong, I still don't agree with booing an animatronic (and based on what I see in my Facebook feed I think we will be lucky if the worst thing that happens is people booing) just that there is a bit of reality present already in Liberty Square vs the other lands

The real point of this attraction is Lincoln...and so, Presidents will come and go, some will be of my political party and some will not, and still, this is an attraction I will visit...because Lincoln transcends partisanship.

I mean in all honesty if we wanted to burn an animatronic...wouldn't the country unite around burning James Buchanan?

I agree with Hisgirl, i go every time i visit MK. I am energized after walking thru the Great Hall, listen to the beautiful singers, and watch the show. I look forward to going again when i return and see our next POTUS take his rightful place with past Presidents.

I am seriously bummed that HOP will be closed when we visit. My son is a history buff and would have loved it. If I ever make it back to MK, we will definitely stop in to see it. What a great tribute to our country and the men who have faithfully served.

I can't fathom skipping it just because the one I wanted didn't get elected. I love and honor my country, the flag and "the republic for which it stands".
