The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

I absolutely love broadway shows and these are the ones I have seen:
25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
Drowsy Chaperone
Chicago
Book of Mormon
Phantom of the opera
The Color Purple
Wicked
Rent
Kinky Boots
School of Rock
Matilda
Avenue Q (off broadway)
Mamma Mia
Something Rotten

How was Matilda? I take my DGD to NYC during the SUmmer for a show or two, and was thinking that Matilda and Anastasia would be good choices. SH elopes the shows, and is 15.

After months and months of waiting we are finally off to see Hamilton....only 14 days from now. While we are in NYC we will also be seeing Beautiful and one other show, which we will take our chances on by getting tickets from TKTS. We will be seeing many dear friends from when we lived in NYC and also spending time with family. I. CAN'T. WAIT!!!!

I took my mom to NYC the weekend before Christmas and we went to see Beautiful (and the Rockettes). It was a really good show. Really good. It was a short trip and just makes me want to go back!

Matilda closed so it won't be an option this summer.

Saw The Humans tonight. It was a nice evening of theater. I appreciate that because it was a more quiet play they didn't sell candy or put ice in the cups.

I did not see that it had closed, Thank you.
I generally take Kady to the Disney shows, but we will see what is playing that she would like. Honestly, Matilda woudl have been for me! LOL!

On cloud nine right now. :cloud9:

I was on my DCP for 5 months so I wasn't able to see anything but Cats (which was actually very good!) when I went home for a weekend. I came home to not one, but TWO tickets to A Bronx Tale (I got a set and my best friend Austin got a set and we're taking each other. We saw it at Paper Mill together and I was SO, so elated when it got the Bway transfer) AND a ticket to Hello Dolly with Bette Midler. And I get to see the last 3 shows of the PMP season, plus I'm moderating a Newsies fan meetup on the last day of BroadwayCon, so I got my ticket for free.

I missed Broadway almost as much as I missed the DIS!

DD is now a permanent cast member after her DCP. The only thing she misses is: 1.Her dog 2. Broadway 3.Paper Mill LOL

Hi everyone, not sure if you all know or not but here is the situation. We will be in NYC for a Disney Cruise on the 6th of October. We are planning on going in on the 4th or 5th (depending on how much school we think our son can miss in his first year of high school). Anyway, the three shows we want to see are not selling tickets past the summer or September for some. Will they add shows? They are not listed as closing. We are looking at Phantom, Cats and Wicked. Any help here would be appreciated, even if it is to tell us we have no chance of seeing any of these shows. Thanks in advance for all of your help!

Phantom and Wicked definitely aren't closing; they just don't usually release tickets quite this far out. Check back every couple of weeks, as they'll put new blocks of tickets on sale. You should definitely be able to see them. Cats is a little more up in the air--it may or may not still be open in September. Depends on how well it sells.

Thanks so much Araminta for your quick reply. We will keep checking for tickets every week, thanks for the information.

For anyone interested, BroadwayHD is doing a livestream of "Holiday Inn" tomorrow night at 8 pm EST. You have to be a subscriber to see it, but monthly subscriptions are $14.99 and they have a nice catalog of other shows that you'll have access to as well during your month-long subscription (including their livestream of "She Loves Me" from last year). https://www.broadwayhd.com/index.php/shows/watch/Holiday_Inn_Preview

You're welcome! I hope you're able to get the seats you want--I haven't seen Cats, but Phantom and Wicked are both fantastic shows. :)

Is anyone here planning to see "Amelie" after it opens (I think it's opening in March)?

Oh my goodness, there are so many good shows opening this spring. I'd already booked my trip for May when Amelie announced. Going to see Hamilton, War Paint, Dear Evan Hansen, Anastasia, and Groundhog Day. I wish I could stay longer and see Amelie and Great Comet and Sunset Boulevard and Dolly--a plethora of riches!

Glad to see Groundhog Day on your list! I know a few of the investors and a producer so I have a different want for it to be good then I have for any other show haha.

I was skeptical at first, but I really like Andy Karl and the London reviews I saw were mostly raves. So i figured I'd give it a try. Hopefully its a hit here too, with those kinds of reviews.

And since I'm the Broadway geek among my friends and family, I'm bringing 4 or 5 other people with me to see it. :)

I'll probably try to go for it, depending on what their rush/lotto policy becomes. I love Phillipa Soo and I'm eager to see her work in this role.

She was good in Hamilton. But Cynthia was amazing. I really feel London has everything I want to see.
