Had the day off so went over this morning for a few hours today
Got to the park around 10am and by 4:00 I was heading out I was able to ride
Haunted mansion
Thunder mountain
Pirates
People mover
Carousel of progress
All with about 25 minute waits but on the People mover I was able to get a few pictures with the lights on space mountain.

Also had a great salad for lunch too. All in all had a blast today.

I was on the People mover when the light were on I was vloging the ride and the light were on then the people mover got stopped when I was in space for about 2 or 3 minutes. If I know how to posted the video I would maybe I should start a youtbube channel and post it there.

We rode PM recently and found the lights on in Space Mountain too. It's rather interesting.

We are People Mover fans and ride it multiple times every MK day. We have seen Space Mountain with the lights on at least once every trip in the last few years. I think SM is getting old and more prone to breaking down.

I really like the people mover. But I've noticed more "dead" space, dark areas than in the past. That part of it I don't like!
Anyone know why those parts are now dark... you literally see nothing. Were they the areas thru the shops?
What's that about?

You kiddin'??? Those dark areas are called "mirco naps". :cloud9: :D We often use PM as a nice rest in the summer. After walking around MK on a hot summer day, there's nothing like sitting in the slow moving, air conditioned, quiet People Mover. Throw in long periods of darkness and I'd be lying if I said I've never fallen asleep on it...and I love it.

i have seen Space Mtn with the lights on from the People Mover once but can't imagine riding it with the lights on..

I've seen it a few times with the lights on. Made me never want to ride again! Of course I did though..

I don't know. It seems like a pretty tame/lame ride with the lights on. I feel like the atmosphere is what makes Space a great ride.

How did you manage to ride it with the lights on??? That would be so awesome!

Luck. We did the Disney After Hours.
We decided we would start with a few runs on SM.
We got there shortly after DAH started.
By time we got to the end of the line, the lights were on.
No CMs seemed surprised or anything.
We rode 3 times, both sides but by the third ride they had the lights back off again.
I didn't think it would have been that unnerving - but it was ...........:crazy2:

We were on the lift when the ride shut down. The lights came on and the PA system announced to remain seated. I took out my phone to take pictures of course. After about 2 minutes they announced the ride would be restarting. The lights were still on! As we got to the top of the lift the I asked the CM if they were letting us ride with the lights on and he said yes.
I set the phone to video and held it facing forward (really tight) and got some cool video of the entire ride with the lights on.

I know the YES program purposely rides it with the lights on. I also know that golden oak has evenings in the parks and one of the perk is lights on space mountain. The rest is more luck that you were on when it was a quick fix or those first couple runs after a repair while they are still keeping an eye on it.

I also know the ride CMs for it love to get a ride in with lights completely off (my understanding is much darker with no possible way to see anything at all)

Tip for fellow chickens: I can do Space Mountain if I sit in the front. That way you can see the track in front of you from the little bit of light and it's not so scary and maybe a little bit fun! When you get to the loading spot just ask politely if you can ride up front. I've never been denied. But I agree that I think riding it fully lit would be really scary.
