Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB RESORTS Information & Questions

Yoo hooooo.... After a much too long absence, I finally pulled the trigger on booking for my 50th birthday trip! Well, my 50th is a few weeks before the trip, but I wanted to go when the crowd levels were lower. :) You can put me down for August 18th - 26th at BC CL, followed by three nights on the dark side. :) I actually am in shock. I cannot wait to go back! My BFF and her family are coming at the same time, bringing another family with her, and we are going to work on our travel buddies to come with their kids as well. I need to take another look at my signature - I haven't been on here much since my last trip in August 2013 (when I got a concussion and a huge black eye, and was recognized in the lounge and hot tub by fellow Disboarders as a result!) I'm happy to see my picture of the cot in the room from 2012 is still in the FAQ as well. LOL.

I will have many questions, I'm sure, and will be following along until August!

Welcome back Feckless :)
Happy to hear you're planning a return trip. I loved reading your TR and remember well that shiner of an eye:scared1:. Fingers crossed for an injury free trip this time around :)

Hey Everyone :wave2:

Just book a last minute trip to the BC, every year we stay at the Grand in July, but couldn't resist the cheap flights. We always wanted to try an EPCOT hotel and January 23rd we arrive.

I've been checking on the thread and I am getting so excited, just figured I would ask if there is anything I should know and if there is seating near or by the Beach Club Marketplace? We visit the Yacht Club every year to eat at Yachtsman but that's all I am familiar with.

Also, if anyone has an input in what I should pack for a trip in January I would appreciate that too, we have never been to WDW another time but May and July.

Thanks for the help!!:goodvibes

As to what to pack, layers. I live about 8 miles from MK. Last weekend is a great example:
I get my paper around 6am. Saturday is was 71; Sunday the wind chill was 27. This coming weekend the high is supposed to be 80. There is no rhyme or reason- just be prepared for anything. Have a safe and happy vacation!

We took advantage of those cheap flights last January. ;) It is a good time to get away.

There are some high tables in the hall by the entrance to the Marketplace. There are more tables right outside the door to the Beach Club villas, and there are tables in the Solarium. :)

It can be cold in January, especially in the evening, so you will want to bring some warm clothes. It was 36 degrees for the marathon on Sunday morning. :)

Thank you so much for the info and help.

OMG! I over pack in July, I can't imagine how this going to go:rotfl2: I'll try to keep up with the weather in Orlando to help narrow it down. Thanks for all the help!!

Yeah, as soon as those poles went up during our last couple days at BCV I knew the pool's unfenced days were numbered. Have they painted the concrete yet or covered it or something so it's not so ugly?

It's definitely going to make it less convenient for people in the end closest to the BC lobby to get to the parking lot. Cutting through the pool area really saved time.

I'm not familiar with the layout so maybe this is a dumb question. Can you not still walk through the gates?

Yes, but...

Currently, you just go out of the BCV doors and cut through the pool area to get to your car in the parking lot. Easy walk, no obstacles or narrow passages to navigate through. Good shortcut if you're hauling luggage to or from the car.

Once the fence is finished, you will have to go out the BCV doors, open a gate (with your MB?), cut through the pool area, open another gate to get out of the pool area, then continue down the path. Not as easy a shortcut, now that you have to navigate through two different potentially locked gates with your luggage. It will be almost as easy to just walk inside along the first floor to the end of the wing closest to the parking lot and go out those doors. (We hated doing that if we were carrying anything, since there always seemed to be service carts or ECVs or something blocking the hall that we had to maneuver around.)

Disney just called about my single night YC CL reservation for Sunday (coming from wilderness lodge) and they are moving me to beach club due to the construction. Just a heads up this may be happening to some. It was a last minute booking.

Thanks so much for the info. First I have heard. They often start work on a Sunday, so I am guessing maybe Jan 15?

:thumbsup2

My friend just checked-in to a 1 night stay in a standard view room at Yacht Club. She was offered multiple rooms and told to "take this one" upon checking in. She is in a completed refurb:

She also said she can hear work above her on the third floor and sees painters going in and out of the rooms on the second floor.

Hello again experts!!

I am not really a breakfast person, but I absolutely need a couple of cups of coffee and toast. Can anyone tell me at both Yacht club and Beach club where I can get that in the morning.

Thanks again!!:worship:

You will have a couple of packets of coffee in your resort room. You can get coffee from Ale and Compass just off the YC lobby and from the Marketplace in the BC. You can get toast at the Marketplace. Ale & Compass will have a few breakfast items like muffins, but I don't think they have toast.

Eeek...I have to say I am not a fan of no carpet - but not having a bathtub is a deal breaker. Surely this cannot be the norm. I may change resorts for May if this is how all the rooms will be. Optimistically I cannot imagine such a child friendly place not offering bathtubs...I don't want to switch resorts. Will try to patiently wait for more info as refurb progresses!

I thought it was an accessible room when she first sent me the pictures because of the shower. However, the room is not labeled as accessible and there is a lip to step into the shower. I thought it seemed strange compared to other resorts as well.

Thanks for the pictures. I actually like the look & love the shower. I don't know if I have ever been in a hotel room without carpet. Guess I'll have to decide how I like it after staying in a new room.

I'm not an expert (in fact June will be my first onsite stay!) BUT I love my toast in the morning, advice from my friends is to pop into Epcot and visit France for croissants for breakfast!

I love a slice of toast with my tea ( hot English breakfast variety) in the morning and I'm pleased to tell you both are available for next to nothing in Captain's Grille in the mornings. My youngest son lives for an all American buffet breakfast, actually the only thing keeping him alive while on holiday (well and Mickey bars), so oftentimes he and I would nip in there for breakfast while the others slept/ showered and we had no problems with me just having tea and toast and him having full buffet. Really relaxing start to the day and a lovely way to get some 1-2-1 time with the youngest member of the clan :)

Exactly what I am looking for!

Thanks again to everyone for all the help.

I am kind of disappointed that we couldn't get the Yacht Club, it seems like the restaurants and lounges are what we were looking for, but we grabbed the Beach Club for our last minute quick trip. We're going just my DH and I, its the first time since our honeymoon 26 years ago. I don't feel guilt since we're returning the end of May with the kids...lol!!

So here's my question....Since I think we'll be spending most our time at the Yacht Club whats the quickest way from the Beach Club?

Thanks again in advance for the help...you guys are great!!
