Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER RESORT Information & Questions

Biggest difference. Full size bed vs. Queen bed. That and Value Resort rooms are so small you need to step outside to change your mind.

Yes! We've rented DVC points too and we like that of course, but we've decided we are not big fans of the values!

I'm a first timer that's planning for a Christmas trip. What were some of the differences from value vs moderate if you don't mind me asking.
Several years ago I found this chart that compares the Resort categories - may not be totally accurate now (queen beds in moderates instead of full), but you will get the idea...Disney-World-Resort-Features-By-Price-Class copy.jpg

The queen beds are certainly a top reason...coffee maker 2nd place...but there is just a different feeling we have when at moderates compared to the values. A little less crowded feeling, more relaxed and comfortable.

Does anyone else k ow the name of the scent Disney uses in the POFQ lobby at Christmas??
I asked at the front desk this morning. They said their regular scent was clover and white orchid (I think white orchid was what they said) but they add a cinnamon base over Christmas. The lobby really smelled great last week! It smells good this week too, but the fragrance now is more subtle.

Reminds me of how there is one Yankee Candle scent (Magical Forest, or something like that) that just reminds me of Christmas in the parks.

I might have to try to find a clover and white orchid mix for the home.

I'm just glad it doesn't smell like the real French Quarter ;)

I've just checked with someone on-site and those dates are not confirmed as yet. However I would expect there to be some downtime this winter, as the main pool was NOT closed last spring (only the splash pool which was converted into an Aquatic Play Area).

Thank you very much. Hopefully I can still catch some pool time next week.

I just checked out yesterday. I had forgotten how much I LOVE this resort. It was so relaxing and quiet. The food court never got too busy. Our room was spotless. I hope to come back next New Years. :)

HOT TUB QUESTION:
Does POFQ post a minimum age and, if so, is it actually enforced?

Under 12 needs adult supervision

I was in it at some point everyday this past week. There are families who bring their younger children, but because the hot tub is in a different location then the pool, I didn't encounter any children randomly using it unsupervised.

There has now been official confirmation that the French Quarter “Doubloon Lagoon” swimming pool and the new children’s Aquatic Play Area will both be closed for routine maintenance starting on Monday 9th January for approximately five days. Given that this sort of work requires significant advanced planning, and as noted above the dates had already been included in recent press/travel agent information, it seems strange that paying guests are only being informed about it two days before work starts.

The following communication will be provided in-room for guests staying at the resort:

Starting Monday 1/9/17 French Quarter Doubloon Lagoon Pool and Aquatic Play Area will be closed for cleaning and Maintenance. The French Quarter hot tub will remain open throughout the refurbishment. During this time Guests may see or hear work in progress.

We invite French Quarter Guests to make a splash at the Ol’ Man Island Pool, or any of the five leisure pools, located throughout Disney’s Port Orleans Resort. Recreation activities will also be available in the courtyard near the lobby at Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter.

For Guests’ convenience the following transportation options will be available during the closure:
  • Golf Cart Transportation, from 10:00am-8:00pm, at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter will be located in the courtyard near the Resort Lobby and at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside at the leisure pool between Buildings 80 and 85.
  • Internal Bus transportation is available to Disney’s Port Orleans – Riverside during pool operating hours.
  • Boat transportation to Disney Port Orleans – Riverside operates from 10:00am-4:00pm.
We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience. Should you have any questions or need additional assistance, our Front Desk Cast Members will be happy to assist you.

Just to be sure, there are no slippers included in standard rooms, are there? Does any moderate resort include?

After jonesing to stay at some of the deluxes for a long time, my partner and I have finally realized that we are owned by moderates for life. (CSR taught us that last year.) They just give us exactly what we like in a Disney vacation. But I've always had kind of a block about French Quarter, because it seems so close to a Value in terms of its level of amenities. So for those of you who love French Quarter, how does it differ in your mind/heart from, say, Pop, considering that it has a lower level of amenities relative to the other moderates? I'm asking because I'm trying to find the love for it for potential future stays. Many thanks!
