Best Restaurants for a Solo

I am going on a second solo trip to WDW next month. When I went solo earlier this year, I felt like I missed the mark on good restaurants for solos. I stuck around the Poly and ate at Kona Cafe a couple of times because it was familiar territory. Now that I am making a second trip, I want to venture out a bit more.

This time I am staying at BWI because I felt the EPCOT area would have a better vibe for a solo adult. Having said that, I am not familiar with the Boardwalk area or surrounding hotels. Does anyone have suggestions on where to eat?

Thanks!

In that area, I ate my first solo character meal, which I was sure I'd feel very uncomfortable at. However, I wasn't the only solo there-with all the convention traffic from BWV and YC, there were several solos. And the characters were very sensitive to my desire to just sit back "out of the madness". Watching all the families interacting with the characters was so much fun!

Beaches and Cream at the Beach Club is a must do. I love the seats at the counter because I can watch them make ice cream sundaes during my entire visit. The burgers, onion rings and chocolate shakes will take you back to your childhood. One seat opens up often so the wait should not be very long. Flying Fish at Boardwalk is a favorite for dining at the bar. It is a high end, expensive seafood restaurant at Boardwalk.

ESPN Club is a possibility. The TV sets will keep you entertained, but the food isn't that great. If you like Japanese food, Kimonos in the Swan is quiet and secluded with great quality Japanese food. They are probably used to people dining alone here since they get so many conventions.

Disney Springs has many good options. Raglan Rd. has great music at night. It is so loud you can't talk anyway. A quick sandwich at Earl of Sandwich is always a winner. Wolfgang Puck Cafe also has food service at the counter. You can grab a fancy pastry from Amorette's Patisserie, a drink at the hanger bar or on the dock at the boathouse. I love the bar at House of Blues. You must head to Disney Springs by bus at least one night.

I agree with this choice. For one thing B&C is good, also the counter is very interesting. I always feel like I'm in my own personal Food Network Show!

Thank you for the great suggestions!

When I was at WDW in October, part of my trip was solo. I basically ate where I wanted. I had dinner at Citricos (Grand Floridian) and Art Smith's Homecoming (Disney Springs). Then I had breakfast at The Wave (Contemporary) and Kona Cafe.

I would recommend you pick a restaurant based on your tastes and what you want to experience.

You most likely won't be the only solo person eating at what ever restaurant you choose. Have fun!!!

I agree with PP, eat wherever you like. I go on at least one solo trip every year and have no problems eating at TS restaurants. I do have my kindle on my phone and after I order I usually read.

1. The Beach Club quick serve area has a pretty decent breakfast for a reasonable price.
2. The Boardwalk Bakery has the best chocolate chip cookies, IMO.
3. This year at F&W I tried the steak from Canada. I will be going to Canada during my next trip. I know it is expensive, but that fillet was AMAZING!.
4. The Norway bakery has a bunch of new options now that Frozen Ever After is open. I had the egg & leek pastry when I was there. It was respectable and I would eat it again.
5. I ate at the 50's Prime Time café recently. That was a pretty entertaining time. :)
6. I agree with one of the other posters about ESPN. The food wasn't that spectacular. There are other places that are better.
7. France. I've never had a bad thing from any of the places there.

Enjoy your trip!!!

I want to quickly say thanks to everyone for the great ideas! I am feeling very confident about eating out while I am there! Only 40 days to go!!

I always recommend that for people who aren't too sure about dining solo. Sitting staring at a screen while you eat. Just like eating in front of the TV set at home. How much easier could it be?

It seems like it would be super awkward being stuck in the extra seat of some other party's car though... Especially since you're referred to as "a hitchhiker". Not cool in my book.

I've been thinking about trying this but wasn't too sure about it dining solo. Do you get to sit in one of the cars still? What do you like to eat there?
Solo guests def get to sit in the cars at Sci Fi. I've been 4 or 5x over the years but always seated in the back seat. Not really an issue at all for either me or for the other party in the front seat. Its a dark, loud place with the movies running so not like I'm crashing anybody's private dining moment. I'm not a big fan of the food but this is still a good spot to eat OOP esp if you want to eat light eg one of their appys.
I agree with the PPs: eat wherever you want w/o regard to being a solo diner. There are lots of solos out there so you won't really be alone. Other guests traveling in family packs are usually so wrapped up in their own drama & issues that they really won't notice you at all. Have a great dining experience!

I don't like to spend time over food and not in the parks (trying to change) so always preferred buffets - there is a good one at Cape May Cafe at the BC - now it is a character meal so you will pay for it for breakfast. the night one I think is still seafood?

In that area I like Beaches and Cream where you can sit at the bar or a small table. I would also recommend that you shouldn't worry about dining solo and just eat wherever you a desire to go. You only go around once so you might as well enjoy it.

Also at BW area, don't forget Swan and Dolphin hotels. I have not done solo trips but have had a few meals on my own. To me eating in the lounge or at the bar (I realize some people don't like that) is something I prefer. I will tend to do app's or small plates at Signature Restaurants. Its a nice way to try some of the foods and potentially saves on the wallet.

I'm surprised only one person said Flying Fish. I haven't been there since they changed it, but would imagine it's still great. Definitely a recommendation. Do you only want recommendations for the Boardwalk area or do you plan on venturing around?

I'd say eat wherever you'd like to try - I find that at full service restaurants, I tend to get more attentive service when I dine alone, and at quick serve restaurants, it's always easier to find a place to sit.

I would say any place NOT included in the DDP. There will be much fewer people and you'll probably have a more relaxed dinner without being shoved in somewhere between families. I went solo at Bluezoo once and nearly had the entire restaurant to myself. Was amazing.
