Okay -- thought I would post as I was treated to a test meal at La Hacienda.

Very nice building. Great location. Long over due. :thumbsup2
And any place with A/C wins me over instantly. ;) :lmao:

Strawberry/lime lemonade to drink. Did not taste any lime. But I think it was mentioned it was in there. However it was very tasty and refreshing, esp on a hot, humid FL sunny day.

As with most Mexican restaurants, chips and some salsa were brought to the table. There were two different salsas. One to me had a BBQ flavor. :confused3 But I think it was made with some sort of roasted peppers. I think that was the BBQ I was tasting. I was with two others, and they did not seem to think the same as I. (However I am at the end of a cold and my taste buds may still be a bit off.)
One salsa was red (the "BBQ") and the other green.
I would not consider either hot/spicy. Of course that would depend on the individual.

Started off with Botana -- A sampling (of 3) items: Chicken Tostada, Chilorio sope (Marinated pork) and cheese empanada.

All three were good. But the cheese empanada --- :thumbsup2 . Of course hot cheese with any kind of dough around it is always a good thing in my book.
The other two were also very good. But the cheese was my favorite.
The other two each had a base of black beans. I am not a fan of black beans. But theirs were good. I actually really liked them.
Each of the three appys were just a small tostada. Maybe like 3" across or so. ($9.95)

Rather than a regular entree, I again had a sampling of three different entrees. (The appy is a regular on the menu. The entree sampling is not.)

I had a sampling of Flank Steak (Strips sliced fairly thin. Not too thin. Not thick. Good size actually.) The flank steak is called Arrachera on the menu.
Arrachera -- Flank steak with spring onions, tamal, cactus leaves and beans. ($25.95)
Just listing what the menu reads. Although I did not have all that and not the regular portion.
I am not a steak person, and always want mine WELL done. This was not pink to medium. I just gave my pink piece away. :cutie:
But what I had was good.

I also had one Taco de Camarones (fried shrimp taco).
It was a flour tortilla, which seemed very fresh. I am sure they make their own, which makes all the difference in the world. If they don't, they have a good supplier.
There were three shrimp on the tortilla, with some purple cabbage and a little (and I mean LITTLE) drizzle of a green sauce. Which by the menu must have been chipotle-lime aioli.
It was good. But made me realize I could easily make this at home. Gave me a good idea to do so.

Then there was a side that looked like a lot of green and red peppers julienned. I am not a pepper person, so sorry to say did not even try it. (Although I am wondering if that was cactus leaves in with the peppers. :confused3 )
Another side was mostly corn, and some red peppers (I think) and something white in smallish balls. Thinking it was cheese I went for that! Although I like corn a lot too. It was pretty good. Esp for a side. (Nice change of pace.) Although I do not think it was cheese. Did not have a lot of flavor (the white balls).

For dessert, I have to say was "okay". I don;t think I would ever order it. However I did not get what is listed on the menu. (The menu has 4 desserts listed.)
What is on the menu, that I had, is:
Tamal de Dulce: Sweet tamal filled with guava, topped with strawberry coulis. ($7.95)

The servers said it was so good.
If there was any guava in mine, it was so sparse I missed it entirely. :confused3
It kind of reminded me of a lady finger (but not quite) with that light, foamy strawberry whipping sauce that Kona Cafe puts in a cup on the side of their Tonga Toast. Then a dollop of (whipped?) cream and a little sliver of fresh strawberry on top. The cream was not really formed. But not foam either. :confused3
Reminded me of strawberry shortcake without the actual berries.
Guava would have made it much better. Not that it was bad. Just not as I expected. However this dessert was nice as it was not heavy.

As with almost all WDW restaurants, it was noisy. And it wasn't like anyone was particularly loud. Just noisy like Chefs de France and most any other Disney restaurant.

I think this restaurant will be VERY popular with the Illuminations crowd.
And I am very happy to see another good restaurant in World Showcase.

:thumbsup2

La Hacienda offers quite a variety of margaritas too, along with tequila (and tequila flights) beer and wine.

6 appetizers (Prices range from $6.95 - $12.50 each.)
2 offerings that serve 2 people ($49.95 each)
5 entrees (Prices range from $22.95 - $25.95 each.)
4 desserts (Prices range from $6.25 - $7.95 each. Only one -- ice cream -- is $6.25. The others are $7.95.)

The number of options seems standard in WDW restaurants currently.

Also worth a mention -- there is still a counter service to the right of La Hacienda. It probably (serving-wise) is not that much smaller, or close to the same size, as what was previously there for the entire location.
There is not as much outdoor seating of course. The seating should be fine, unless unusually busy like during holidays, etc.

Thank you for your review, I just made dinner ressies for our Nov trip and cannot wait to try it!

just changed my November reservations to La Hacienda...got a 7:45 on a Friday night. Hope it's good timing for 9:00 p.m. Illuminations!

We're so pleased to see this prime piece of real estate:lmao:house something other than a fast-food mexican stand! Not sure if we'll go there or into the Mexican Pavilion for our next 2011 Christmas trip, but so nice to have the option! :thumbsup2

I just canceled our Cape May dinner ADR and made one for La Hacienda for our December trip.....your review sealed the deal for me. Looked at the menu posted here on the DIS and read your review, now I am looking forward to this new Epcot restaurant!! Thanks for the review.

Thanks for the review. I'm going to check out the menu now as I think this is somewhere I would like to try on our next trip :goodvibes

Is it on the dinning plan? I just booked it too!!!

we try to go to La Hacienda every trip, always have had a very pleasant experience. the food has been excellent. I definitely recommend this restaurant
:confused3
It just opened yesterday.

Well, I know on the WDW reservation site it says no dining plan, but the menu posted here on the DIS says yes. I am betting the menu here is not correct.

Even with no DDP being accepted we are going to go....we like new experiences.

We went yesterday (Friday) at 4 p.m. when it opened. We were sure it would be packed but it wasn't. I don't think people realize it is open and of course the Epcot crowds have been small the past 2 weeks. They asked us if we were on the Disney dining plan or any other plan (Tables) so I assume they accept the different plans. I did ask if there was a cast member discount and I was told that there would not be any cast member discount at this restaurant. Se la vi! Cast members are out of luck for this restaurant.

The interior is beautiful. It truly looks like a Hacienda. Yes, it will be a wonderful place to watch Illuminations. I think most of the seats in the main dining room will have a good view. We were seated in the other room and wouldn't have a good view of Illuminations. The staff is attentive. We were seated in a booth. The appointments in the Hacienda are really top-notch. We thought it was a lot more intimate and higher end then the new Italy pizzaria which I think they were striving for. Would I take my 7 year old grandson to La Hacienda? No - He would be bored and it is expensive but worth it for adults. On the other hand he would enjoy the new pizzaria in Italy.

They brought us a menu and our server described the drinks. My husband asked if they had "sangria" and they said, "no". We were surprised as we equate Mexico with not only margaritas and tequila but also sangria. Anyway we ordered 2 margaritas - the fire chili one and the rasberry one. They were both excellent - very unique. I loved the chili powder on the rim and the raspberry one was so smooth - both delicious. Not long after we were served our drinks a suit/tie guy came with a glass of sangria for my husband. He said he had been told about his request and he had them make one for my husband. That is Disney - they aim to please! Nice touch on their part. One more thing about the sangria - when we went to the pizzaria in Italy last week we were so surprised that they served pitchers of sangria there so we were looking forward to sangria in the new Mexican restaurant. So if you want good sangria you'll need to go to Italy.

Ok - now about the food. WOW!!!!! It was delicious and so different. My husband ordered the ensalada (salad) and I ordered the sopa (soup) for our appetizers and then the Del Mar dinner ($49) for two for our entree. My soup was very good. It came in a small bowl. There was mexican cheese/fried tortilla chips in the bottom of the bowl. The server poured the black bean mixture over this in the bowl. It was very good. My husband's salad was the most unique, fantastic tasting salad either of us have ever eaten. It was grilled green chilis with stems and tiny chorizo sausages - oh my gosh it was delicious and so unusual. The grilled chilis were so mild and the flavor just popped out of them and the chorizo sausages were fantastic. I hate to say it but I ate more of my husband's salad than he did. I asked for the recipe. The suit/tie guys were so nice. They got the name of the chilis from the chef and brought out a package of the chorizo sausages so I could copy down their web site. I want to make this unusual salad for my next party - it will definitely wow guests. The Del Mar dinner was excellent - lots of fish. The tilipia was cooked just right, the scallops were huge, plump, and delicious. The shrimp were also huge - my only complaint was the chili coating was a little too hot. The chef needs to back off a little there as we both love the mexican heat in food but the shrimp were a little too much. The sides were all very good - the corn mixture really stood out - fresh and crunchy.

We were so full so we didn't try any desserts. Our bill with tip was $120. It was worth every penny - you don't think you are in Epcot but an upscale restaurant somewhere - even the bathrooms were gorgeous - not the regular theme park restroom. I was a little embarrassed as a custodian went through our dining area with his pan/brush. You just don't do this in an upscale eating establishment even in Epcot. I'm sure he just went out the wrong door after checking the restroom. He should have gone out through the kitchen.

Canada has always been our favorite Epcot place to dine for a special meal but La Haciena will now be our #1 choice.

Thanks for the reviews. Now I am hungry! :thumbsup2

It sounds like an interesting place. I am glad they added another TS to Epcot ... well I guess two new ones with the other Italian/pizza one that opened! :thumbsup2

Does anybody have the recipe for the sangria at La Hacienda de San Angel? It is excellent!
