The year of living Disney - Autumn and deluxe dining TR**NEW TR LINK UP 1/16**

Hope all of my American friends had a great Thanksgiving! Ours was really nice, we had about 11 of our family here, which is about all I can handle :rolleyes1

I'm going to try to get part 2 of day 5 done before we leave on Saturday!!! :goodvibes I need to get this TR wrapped up soon or I'm going to start forgetting what all we did.

Thanks for sticking with me! Love you guys, mean it! :grouphug:

Day 5, part 2
We eat like Seniors, and we party like its 2016
After a great day at MK we headed back to the Polynesian for a bit of a rest and and early dinner at Ohana. I had made a reservation for 4:30 with the Senior crowd so that we would have lots of time to make it back to MNSSHP.

Annnnndddddd this is where I revert back to my old ways of not taking any pictures at dinner.

For those of you that have not had the pleasure of stuffing your face at Ohana this is how it goes. First, it's all family style, which means you can eat until you can't eat no more, and then eat more if you want to.

First they bring out this yummy bread, I think it's pineapple bread with just a touch of sweetness, but not overly sweet. Then it's a platter of noodles and stir fry type veggies, mostly broccoli and such. Then they come around with pan fried dumplings, chicken wings, shrimp and steak and they keep it coming if you so desire. Then when you're about ready to ask for a pillow and a blanket because you feel yourself slipping into a food coma they bring out this amazing bread pudding with bananas foster sauce and vanilla ice cream. :faint:. I have to say I've never been a big fan of the bread pudding but this stuff was amazing!!

They also keep the kiddies entertained with coconut races and a lady playing the ukulele. It was really fun but we were beyond stuffed. Thank goodness we were about ready to walk another 5 miles at the Halloween party.

We waddled back to our room with every inention of changing into the elaborate costumes we had brought; I was going to be Alice and Bob the white rabbit, but we were so full and it was still pretty hot so we made the executive decision to go with plan B and wear the back up clothes.

image.jpeg

Here you have it folks, our feeble but much more comfortable on full bellies and better ventilated Halloween Party attire.

Bob has a "thing" for Snow White, so we were happy we spotted her to say hi.

We got surer lucky choosing this night to go to the Halloween party because MK was empty! Either that or they have started doing a better job at kicking out the folks who try to stay. Of course you get a special wristband saying you paid your extra hard earned cash for the party, but I had read reports that lots of folks in the past just didn't bother to leave the park when the party started.

It was awesome, every ride was pretty much a walk on, except for 7DMT of course, but it's ok, we had been able to ride it lots of times on this trip since our beloved BTMRR was closed:sad1:.

We did a few of the treat trails so that we could bring the kids home the candy ( my parents went to Disney World and all I got was this miserable bag of Halloween candy ) :rotfl:

We walked pretty much the whole MK, hopping on rides as the mood struck us, it was great ! Worth the extra $$ we paid to attend? I think so!

The Hallowishes fireworks are awesome and we got a good spot by Casey's corner and Bob enjoyed a hot dog from there while we watched the fireworks. But it started to rain right afterwords and we decided to beat the crowds leaving and split before the parade. We had seen it once before when we here for our last Halloween party so I was ok not staying. It had been a long, but great day!

My favorite part about this day - MNSSHP and a practically empty MK
Miles walked 7.9

Up next, we see MK from a different perspective and the prettiest food ever...with photographic evidence!!

Annnnndddddd this is where I revert back to my old ways of not taking any pictures at dinner.

Whattttt?????? What is wrong with you????

(Feel free to copy and paste this into my TR when I do the same.)

First, it's all family style, which means you can eat until you can't eat no more, and then eat more if you want to.

::yes:: Have never been, but heard about it.

Hmmm... carbs first... then more carbs.... "Oh, you're too full for the expensive stuff?"

I'm not a fan either.... but I've seen pictures of that and want to try it!

Thank goodness we were about ready to walk another 5 miles at the Halloween party.

 That should help.... or kill you.
One or the other.

We waddled back to our room with every inention of changing into the elaborate costumes we had brought; I was going to be Alice and Bob the white rabbit, but we were so full and it was still pretty hot so we made the executive decision to go with plan B and wear the back up clothes.

You brought elaborate costumes..... and then didn't wear them???
This boggles my mind. But I get where you'd not want to.
Still.... would've been cute to see you guys all decked out.

Here you have it folks, our feeble but much more comfortable on full bellies and better ventilated Halloween Party attire.

You do look happy and not hot and miserable.

Bob has a "thing" for Snow White, so we were happy we spotted her to say hi.

He's got a thing for a Disney princess??? So weird!

:rolleyes1

When I was there with the family (about 8 years ago) I remember them shooing everyone out.
I wonder if they didn't work at it as hard for a while?

It was awesome, every ride was pretty much a walk on, except for 7DMT of course, but it's ok, we had been able to ride it lots of times on this trip since our beloved BTMRR was closed:sad1:.

Nice!

Except for the BTMRR part. That sucked.

We did a few of the treat trails so that we could bring the kids home the candy ( my parents went to Disney World and all I got was this miserable bag of Halloween candy ) :rotfl:

:lmao:

We walked pretty much the whole MK, hopping on rides as the mood struck us, it was great ! Worth the extra $$ we paid to attend? I think so!

Good! Glad you guys had fun! I remember we sure did.

Sounds like a wonderful day.

Up next, we see MK from a different perspective and the prettiest food ever...with photographic evidence!!

Looking forward to it!

Hello @cinderkelly! Have I not commented on your TR before? Ugh..bad DISer :guilty: Oh well, better late than never I suppose.

I really didn't know what to expect at the Wave other than a buffet, and we were both really blown away by the freshness of the food and how really good everything was.
I've never given much thought to The Wave, especially for breakfast. But it looks pretty good, especially that eggs benedict. I guess it would be a decent option on a MK day, since it's pretty close walking distance if you wanted to stop there before the park.

Luck was on your side! It's nice to know that there's still some lower crowd nights. I've gone twice, in 2010 and 2014. The first was good, light crowds. The second was packed and definitely not as enjoyable. Oddly they were on exactly the same date, October 19th, so it's not like one was much closer to Halloween than the other. And they were both week days. Just bad luck I guess.

What a full and fun day! Did O'hana last trip (not this one) and left feeling WAY overly stuffed; guess that's what you do when you eat more than you should so you can feel good about the buffet price. But it was pretty decent food. I liked the noodles best. Mmmm!

Yeah, they were militant about kicking people out when we were there. Something I loved seeing. If I pay good money for a hard ticketed event, I want it to be as empty as possible.

Ours wasn't by any means empty and we waited 30 minutes for HM, but yeah, pretty much walk-ons all night. LOVED that!

I'm behind :o I didn't realize you were staying at WL for a couple nights next month, that's great! My favorite resort after staying there for the first time in Aug. and-spoiler alert since we just returned last night from Beach Club and who knows when I'll start my TR-it's still my fave :goodvibes
I've wanted to try breakfast at the Wave since reading a review in someone's dining report, maybe @kastoney's? But we've yet to get there. And having eaten dinner at 'Ohana the only costume I'd want to put on afterwards is a sheet if I were going as a ghost, that meal is so filling you roll out of there lol! Glad you enjoyed MNSSHP :)

Totally a test.
Did your server ask you if you liked it?

He did! I didn't even think about it being a test. I just thought " cool! Free juice in a cute little glass!"

You brought elaborate costumes..... and then didn't wear them???

I know.... This was taken a few years ago, we were going to recycle l this look. Alice and the white rabbit stayed in the suitcase

I know, weird, right??

Hello @cinderkelly! Have I not commented on your TR before? Ugh..bad DISer :guilty: Oh well, better late than never I suppose.

Well hello there!:wave2: So awesome to have you here! Yes, totally better late than never!

It really is an awesome breakfast on a MK day, then you can just walk or hop on the monorail to MK

The first was good, light crowds. The second was packed and definitely not as enjoyable

Funny, our experience was just the opposite, first party it was a madhouse, second one was awesome

That's cool. 100% agree!

I'm behind

Gee, not like you've been busy being at Disney or anything!

didn't realize you were staying at WL for a couple nights next month, that's great! My favorite resort after staying there for the first time in Aug

I'm so excited to finally stay at WL!! I've had two previous reservations that I cancelled and moved to another resort because the construction news scared me off, but I'm so jazzed about the holiday decorations

just returned last night from Beach Club and who knows when I'll start my TR-it's still my fave :goodvibes

Did you have a great trip? I hope you still enjoyed the BC. I have a stay booked at the BCV at the end of Feb. I've never stayed there before, but Epcot is my oldest DD's fav park and this is just a her and I trip. To date my fav is still the Contemporary which surprises the crap out of me

Ohana the only costume I'd want to put on afterwards is a sheet if I were going as a ghost, that meal is so filling you roll out of there lol!

So right! :rotfl2:

Mmmmmm, I got my fix of eggs benedict this morning at brunch - couldn't resist!

:faint: I'm so jealous!!! Oddly enough the very best eggs Benedict I've ever had was at Heathrow airport in London, it was amazing, the egg yolks were bright orange, not the pale yellow we usually see here....hummm... That would be an expensive trip just for the Benedict!

He did! I didn't even think about it being a test. I just thought " cool! Free juice in a cute little glass!"

I can see it now.
Staff meeting.
"Okay. We have a new product that we're testing. Make sure you offer the juice to everyone and get their impressions of it if you can."

I know.... This was taken a few years ago, we were going to recycle l this look. Alice and the white rabbit stayed in the suitcase

image-jpeg.207962

Oh my gosh! I love that!!
But... I can see where (especially the rabbit) it'd be a tad on the warm side.

I know, weird, right??

Interesting. Do you remember the restaurant and which terminal? Ironically, I will actually be in Heathrow airport on Monday. My job takes me overseas on a month long rotation. I'm heading home for most of December and Christmas.

Bring some Bennies back with you. If you can travel across the pond, you might as well just drop over here... with the Bennies, of course.

Oh I wish I did! We were flying Icelandair, I think they are in terminal 2. All I remember is that it was on the upstairs level in the " holding" area before we got our gate assignment ( inside the main security) I even looked on Heathrow's website and nothing they had listed looked familiar. All I can remember is they were farm fresh organic eggs and the yolks were so orange!

Sorry, I know that's not much help. But if you're ever at St. Pancras station the Booking Office also does a nice Benedict !

Hmmm...well, I'll be in Terminal 2 for my Air Canada flight. I know the holding area, but I actually have never gone upstairs. I'll have to sniff around and see if anything looks good!

My son, who has an amazing memory, remembered! It's called the Perfectionists' Cafe. Terminal 2 upper floor. The service wasn't great, but if you can look past that the Benedict is super! Enjoy!

Oh Boy! Thanks to your son! That departures lounge is exactly where I will be, that restaurant is just upstairs. Oddly, I have thought about exploring the upstairs before but never bothered. Now I have a reason. I'll let you know if my mission is successful! :)

Mission accomplished! I had a nice eggs benedict at the Perfectionist's Cafe in London on Monday morning. So, pictures or it didn't happen, right? :-)

Here is one in front of the restaurant. The bluriness I can blame on a bad selfie camera on my phone. The goofy look on my face is just me o_O

The presentation was very clean. Nice flavour. If I had one complaint, the temperature was a bit luke warm, but it was fine. The service was OK. They seemed very rushed and there was a high turnover, so that had something to do with it.

Like you mentioned Kelly, I couldn't get over the colour of the yolk, a very bright orange. The menu said they use Berber hens (?) eggs so I guess that's why.

Not a bad breakfast at all and certainly better than a tea and muffin. Thanks for the tip!

Hey There!

Popping in to say hi as I do some catching up!

Hiya Pal! Just got home this afternoon from our Christmastime trip, it was fantastic. Hope to have some details and photos up in the next few days

The service was OK.
