so can you get the nitro thing with just chocolate, no mint?

getting back to JBJB dessert party and show. I think it's really a matter of knowing what you are in for.
The dessert party to me is not bad at all, yes they could've had more variety in the dessert department and the non alcoholic drinks
The show itself, if it wasn't for the long Nightmare sequence it would've been a smash hit for me. Light on the fireworks but the actual projection, laser and snow make up for it, in my opinion. You should NEVER compare entertainment offerings, comparing JBJB to SitS is not realistic since Symphony was all fireworks. You could slightly compare JBJB to SWaGS but it's different subjects. Like I said earlier in this thread he SWaGS show got people complaining cause there was no story to it, just clips from the films, JBJB is getting complaints because it has a story and people don't like it.

I am a fireworks girl for sure... I am planning to see Illuminations at least 2 if not 3 times on my upcoming trip. But I am interested to see this show that is a little different. I am one of those "not really star wars" people... I like it just fine, have seen most of the movies (saw the first three but gave up on the second three after the first, saw the most recent) and my kiddo loves BB8 but is not particularly star wars obsessed (he is on the spectrum so when he is obsessed he is OBSESSED, like he is right now with pokemon go). So I could have taken or left SWaGS vs. JBJB. I think it is nice to have a bit of a different offering. F! is not fireworks heavy at all either and when it first came out (now i am really dating myself lol) I remember all of the hoopla and hand wringing about it using too much on the water projections and not enough other stuff, but now it is quite beloved. So I think part of it is that people just do not like change and people especially do not like their vacations messed with when they are planning on one thing and have it changed relatively last minute. That's on Disney.

So I am forewarned. this show is not the best or most exciting show ever. It is not an adequate replacement for Osborne lights. I frankly had imagined about that out of a short run temporary show.

It will be interesting to see how RoL shapes up given the lack of fireworks. I do wish JBJB wasn't mediocre but as I said in another thread about the wishes dessert party, just because something is a "one and done" kind of a deal doesn't mean it's not worth doing the first time. I am not really a sweets person so I appreciate the savory options and my kid honestly even if there were tons of choices would stick to rice krispie treats and cupcakes anyway. Again with a menu like this you are not going to appeal to everyone as everyone has different tastes... but I like that there is a bit of variety between dessert parties to give people more options. The MK one seems like it is purely dessert with some fruit and cheese and no booze, will be quite different from JBJB which to me maybe should be called a "cocktail party" instead of a dessert party. I am cool with having two very different vibes.

I can't wait to go! Also I think maybe people who go very often view things differently than people who go very infrequently. My last trip was over 2 years ago and I have been saving up for this one since september 2014 so while it does put a lot of pressure on it to fit everything in in this trip... at the same time I noticed back in the day when I went to Disney frequently I was more critical and it took more to wow me. Almost like Disney is a drug and it got less effective over time. My 2014 trip was after a 5 year break and it was honestly the best trip of my life, lol. I think looking at things with fresh eyed excitement and not much recent to compare it with helps with enjoyment, but that is just my observation going from a 3-4x a year disney AP to a once every few years visitor.

I prefer to bring a backpack, they are bigger :D
I don't think that you have to push and shove with other party goers, I don't think anyone that has reported back have said that they've had to do that. There was a complaint about one kid on shoulders and I think that's it.
Now outside the party is a different story

no joke but it is really ok to take stuff home? I only ask because we have an early "linner" at 2:30 and this will be our only meal for the afternoon/evening. I am guessing due to proximity to our previous meal and excitement my kiddo may not eat a damn thing. Was seriously considering packing some small containers to grab some meatballs, dip, rice krispie bon bons and cupcakes for later... it is an early night for us back at the resort as we have another early day at EMH for hollywood studios the next day. I am probably going to get the "I'm hungry" the second we get to the resort. That said we are staying in a studio villa at BWV and are doing DxDDP so a snack at the boardwalk bakery or some ice cream at ample hills might work too and we won't starve... but some savory snacks for later in the evening might not be bad either lol. But I don't want to be that tacky crazy lady that ends up with photos of her posted on the internet ;)

I agree with this! This will be my first trip back since 2012, so everything is almost new and exciting again. The only thing constant is change, especially with Disney. I was bummed about SWGS, but I'm really trying to keep my expectations low and going to try to enjoy JBJB, even if it is new and different. :)

it can't NOT be fun because of our group lol. That makes it more special already. I'm not sure how I'd feel about keeping it without the group but since the kiddo is excited for it and he loves christmas and is much easier to please so I'd still keep it. Just me alone... probably not. But then I could say that for a lot of things I am doing for him!

yeah the night we went they had the 3 options

Funny cause to me Illuminations is not a fireworks show, it's mostly a projection show
with fireworks, much like JBJB and SWaGS. Illuminations is my least favorite night show on property (I know, gasp) I find it boring in places, I do LOVE the holiday tag and of course the walking out music/ I agree that people hate change, I have a friend who LOVED Osborne lights and ever since they went away she hates everything that DHS has been offering. Even before she watches it she's against it because it's not Osborne lights. Welll, yeah, NOTHING will replace Osborne or come to the same quality and magic and holiday cheer and that's something that we must accept and carry on

You will not get in trouble I promise, most of the food that's left over goes straight into a dumpster, just grab the plates that they provide and transfer to your containers at your table and if anyone is giving you the stink eye just know for a fact that deep inside them they are hating themselves for not bringing a container :)

lol I happen to be driving from AK to DHS just for the show so it's not even like I have to carry containers all day, I can just keep them in my car and grab them just for that.

How early should I check in for 8pm party?
Hi, I'm so happy you're coming back :)
We checked in at 7:10pm and had about 30 people in front of us, already in line, they open the dessert area 15 minutes before the scheduled time, so at 7:45pm for the 8pm party and 9pm show

when is it that "the group" is doing the party?

I wrote it down in my calendar so I might be able to swing by before you guys go in and say Hi to everyone :)
It would be so great to meet you! and say thank you for everything you do to make our planning so much easier!

That being the case, I think it's winner.

Although I've been there during the show, I couldn't watch it. Last night I got to see it for the first time with my wife and one of my adult daughters, neither had seen the SWs show, they loved it and glad they made the effort to see it. I heard clapping and saw lots smiles all around me after the finale as well. I didn't see or hear anything that would lead me to the conclusion that it's a bad show as has been posted by a few.

I get it, it's not 100 yards of buildings covered with millions of lights and Christmas music blasting away for for 3 hours, but it certainly doesn't come close to being a bad show. It did what it's supposed to do, keep me in the Christmas spirit and entertain me for about 15 minutes in the typical Disney fashion, nothing more, nothing less.
I haven't seen osborne lights in about 10 years so I think in recent years it is more than what I even remembered. It was awesome and i was sad it left last year but I would not expect this show to be like that. This trip is about my spending time with my son without a million other things grabbing my attention. We both love disney and we love it together and we love christmas and want to see the new christmas show and do the special dessert party. So in general we are pretty easy to please as far as customers go. meatballs, antipasto and spinach dip are right up my alley... the drinks look yummy, some of the effects look awesome, and my son will do something special with mom and be spoiled for a bit. It would have to really be awful for me to give up on it :)

So I fell in love with the gingerbread drink that I searched for a recipe and I'm buying the stuff to try it for tomorrow. Wish me luck :)
Good luck! I am at the party with "the group" on 12/3. Hope to get to meet you there and thank you for all your expertise and input!
If you still can't decipher the drink, I will try my hand (as a former bartender) at picking out an ingredients you might have overlooked. It may take many tastings. . . :drinking1
