~~October 2016~~Sew, it was the greatest Stitch Experience ever!~~Final Update 3/19/2017!

I'm glad you and Josh had a good get away in Kansas. I was wondering if you'd gone away. I love hockey but sadly haven't been able to see our Lake Erie Monsters play in awhile.
The hotel you stayed in sounds really nice. I also love museums like that.
The garage door is fixed and he got the garage door opener is working, too. Not that i actually park in the garage much but I can get to the Christmas stuff now.
They're feeding use on Thanksgiving and Black Friday. I don't know what I'll actually be able to eat because of my onion allergy.
Have a good day
Liz

Sounds like you had a great weekend.

How fun that Brian and Myrthe was in Berlin seeing the Berlin wall at the same time you and Josh stumbled upon a peace of the Berlin Wall in the museum.

What a fun weekend!! I'm sure it was a little awkward being the only ones cheering for Alaska..but...what can you do. All worth it I'm sure!! So funny about the Starbucks mugs - I have gone on many a search for a friend who collects them. If you ever want one from Toronto, let me know :))

We missed out on the worst of the snow - we ended up with rain... I am sure the snow is coming and it will come fiercely. LOL It sounds like you may have gotten some of our storm this weekend?

Yes in upstate NY (where I go to school) we have gotten a good amount of snow. It started late Saturday night and is still going as I write this lol. I am heading home tomorrow afternoon for break. I live about 3 hours south, (about 20 mins from NYC) and I know they did't get much snow. Ny is funny like tha, different areas can have very different weather.

And to keep this post on a Disney topic... These two beauties were displayed in the museum...

What a nice little Disney display! I love seeing classic Disney things:goodvibes

It's great to hear you and Josh had such a nice weekend! That's awesome the team won the second game by so much! Hockey games are always exciting!:thumbsup2

I hope you had a nice day!:goodvibes

Glad you had a nice time in KS! Love all the FB updates.

That is so eat about Josh and Brain...worlds apart but commented. Amazing!

Enjoy your evening!

We did get a great picture with Matt though...
That was nice of you to travel all that way to see Matt's game. Will there be any games that are closer to your home?

Saturday's game was much better - we won a shut-out game 5-0... Matt was on the ice for 4 of the 5 goals, which was awesome! A really fun game and a really fun night! It was awesome to be able to see Matt play again and at this level. (This photo is NOT from Saturday's game...)
That must have been fun to see a winning game. Maybe the team should put Matt on the ice more often. ;)

Sounds like you had a fun! Glad boht drives were uneventful even if long.

That is so cool.

Glad you had fun at both games. Does Matt get a lot of playing time? What position does he play?

Glad I'm not the only one who does that.

I had a horrible eating day yesterday. DH joked that we ate one meal since we started the day with a leftover cupcake from my nephew's first birthday party. We went out for lunch. Then had ice cream sundaes for dinner.
I'm hoping it warms up this afternoon so we can go for a run.

Yes - they were definitely long - and Josh insisted on driving the entire trip...

Matt typically gets a lot of playing time, as long as he is suited up for the game. I was actually surprised at how much he was on the ice - I thought it would be a lot less, since he is at a higher level of hockey than the college level - as he was getting a lot of playing time there... If I were to guess - I'd say he had the same amount of ice time or more now. ::yes:: He is defense.

I try not to - but sometimes, it's my only course of action. ::yes::

Hahaha... I shouldn't laugh - but it is kind of funny... I've done that a few times. :scratchin I hope you were able to go for your run. ::yes::

So glad you had a fun getaway and that you missed the storm on your departure day. We are fans of any Alaska team, so I'm happy to hear that the Aces won the second game. Yea! And I'm glad they had a few fans in the stands.

I also enjoy exploring local history when we travel. Love that you found Mickey and Minnie dolls!

How incredibly neat that Josh and his brother both were visiting portions of the Berlin Wall on the same day, an ocean away. So neat!

I'm glad you made it home safely.

Our company arrived this weekend and it's a bit insane at our house...my sister, her husband, their three daughters and their dog (last minute addition -- she was supposed to stay with one of our other sisters this week...)....and my parents...and a friend's dog (we trade off dogsitting but she never confirmed that they needed us this week so I thought it wasn't going to happen...until she texted on Saturday to see what time we wanted them to bring the dog over). So it's a bit crazy at our house with seven adults (I count Brie in that), three children ages 10, 9, and 4, three miniature dachshunds (including a male who marks everything...ugh, and a cranky old lady dachshund) and our larger dog. It's a madhouse and poor Brie is going crazy with all of the noise. We're used to a much quieter house, LOL. So I've been finding errands and things for her to do to get her out of the house for a break. She has school today and tomorrow so that will help. Wednesday will be a big cooking day and then Thanksgiving on Thursday with even more people coming. I think I'm insane....LOL....

Have a wonderful day!

Yes - it was a great trip! They actually won the game on Sunday too - we just couldn't stay for it. We did live stream it as best as we could through Iowa though, and the 3rd period was pretty awesome, we were really bummed that we couldn't see it in person.

I agree - local history is my favorite thing!

I know! Right? LOL We had no idea that we were even taking vacations on the same weekend - until I texted Myrthe on our way to KS... She replied that her and Brian were boarding a flight to Berlin... Which is why I sent her the picture of Josh with the Berlin wall in the first place - because I knew they were there and I thought it was funny... I had NO idea that they were truly right next to the wall at that time. LOL

Oh my gosh - that sounds truly INSANE - but it also sounds like the perfect holiday... I love having guests and I love entertaining... and I just love the madness that surrounds the holiday. As excited as I am to be going somewhere for Thanksgiving this year - I am going to miss having it here, as in recent years - we've started some of our own traditions which I love... Even if it is small and just us. Enjoy your time with family and all of the dogs - and hopefully Brie is able to get away a lot - can't say I blame her sometimes. LOL :lovestruc

Hahaha... It's hard to slip by you guys sometimes - you all know me so well. LOL

It was a very nice hotel... Modern... but nice. Personally - I prefer more historic everything, but we enjoyed it, it was clean and very convenient. ::yes::

Yay that the garage door is fixed! Especially this time of year - it necessary to having a working door. ::yes::

They usually feed us too - if I worked. This is my 2nd year in a row not working on BF weekend at all - so it's strange, though I am NOT complaining. LOL

Thanks Liz - same to you! :lovestruc

Sounds like you had a great weekend.

How fun that Brian and Myrthe was in Berlin seeing the Berlin wall at the same time you and Josh stumbled upon a peace of the Berlin Wall in the museum.

We did!!! It was so fun to get away and on a whim too - something I don't normally do. LOL

I know - isn't that funny? Such a neat coincidence!

What a fun weekend!! I'm sure it was a little awkward being the only ones cheering for Alaska..but...what can you do. All worth it I'm sure!! So funny about the Starbucks mugs - I have gone on many a search for a friend who collects them. If you ever want one from Toronto, let me know )

It was a little awkward... The Wichita team crowd was a bit abrasive at times with their chanting after goals... I honestly had nightmares that night, and I think it was due to that... It was very intimidating. LOL As it should be, I suppose. It would have been a lot less intimidating if we were more than 3. LOL

Thanks for the offer - I will definitely take you up on that one day - right now I am trying to figure out how I want to display all of them before I get any more. :lovestruc I've amassed a few over the last month, Myrthe also grabbed me one from Berlin, so I need to reorganize. LOL

Travel safe today! Hopefully roads are good for you, and traffic isn't too bad, as people are starting to travel for the holiday weekend. :lovestruc Enjoy your time with family though - I know you'll have a good time!

I know me too!

We did - it was a lot of fun and I sure hope we are able to escape to a few more of his games this year... We've already had family members contact us to offer up their houses, because they happen to be in some of the ciites he is playing in... Which would be awesome!

Thanks - same to you! Drive safe today! And Happy Thanksgiving if I don't see you before then! :lovestruc

We did - thanks! I am glad you enjoyed them!

I know - I thought it was so funny. The odds were just incredible!

Thanks! Same to you! :lovestruc

It was neat that we were able to... A few different things had to fall into place for it to happen - so I am glad they did. It was nice to get away, and I am sure it will prompt us to go more often. ::yes::

Sadly - no, most of them are quite far for us... We'll see how it goes... I am not really willing to travel in the winter months - unless we are certain that we will have good travel weather for the round trip... I don't think we have plans to go to another one until March? :scratchin We'll see...

It was so fun! We think so - LOL. It's so fun to see him play!!!

***********************************************************************************************************

I had a good day yesterday - back to my daily routines...

I worked out right away in the morning... I had a good breakfast...

I went to town and picked V up from school... She didn't have to work - like I thought she did. Oh well...

We decided to take the opportunity to haul up some of the Christmas decorations and assemble the tree... It's a very nice tree, but it is a little shorter than I remembered it being... I had to put it on a box and put the skirt over the box - LOL - to make it taller. I had to do it last year with our real tree too, so I feel like I am pretty experienced with this. ::yes::

In my spare time. over the last few weeks - I've been working on making a clearance table cloth into a tree skirt - I know I've mentioned this here... I was going to applique the letting on, but in the end, I decided that I would just iron it on - as it's so thin that it would be difficult to stitch - and the odds of me actually washing it that often would be pretty rare, especially with an artificial tree now... I dunno??? Do you all wash your tree skirts often with an artificial tree? With real trees - I can see the necessity... Sap, needles and water all over... but with an artificial tree... :scratchin

Anyways - we didn't decorate the tree at all, so I am not showing everything yet... but I will show this - I think it turned out really cute and I am happy with it! ::yes::

20161121_202039.jpg

I've been working on a few other displays around the house, and we are hoping to decorate the tree and set up the village over the next few days or the weekend. ::yes::

Today - I will be heavy lifting... Then I will be working all day. We are in a winter storm advisory - it sounds like this is our last snow storm until after Thanksgiving, so hopefully holiday travel will be OK.

For those of you traveling tomorrow - I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving... I am very thankful for all of the friendships I have made here over the years! :lovestruc

Have a great day all! :lovestruc

I love your tree skirt! It's adorable! We also have an artificial tree and I've never washed our tree skirt, so yours should hold up just fine.

At one point in time you shared a quick and easy meal idea to use the bagged coleslaw or salad mix, stir fry it, add use that as a base for meals. I'm so glad you shared that -- I've been doing that for breakfasts lately, adding compliant sausage, and it's so good, and quick and easy. :-)

I love being with our family for the holidays, even though it does tend to get loud and crazy...and there is always some kind of drama with one particular person. But it's so wonderful to be able to be together. It is definitely loud here, but I love it. :-)

Up until the time I was 13 years old my father would drag our family off to his parents house 300 miles away. There would always be lots of cousins to play with and so many people that there were tables set up in three different rooms. All of us except my mom really enjoyed the Thanksgiving trip. We stopped traveling for Thanksgiving by the time I was in high school. Then we started our own tradition at home with just our family and a couple of my mother's widowed aunts. It just wasn't the same but it was nice not to travel.

Do you all wash your tree skirts often with an artificial tree?
I have a beautiful skirt that has embroidery that I never use. I also have a cheap, quilted one that my mom bought me that I use every year. I throw in it the washer and dryer every year to get out the dusty smell. The skirt is mostly invisible under the tree anyway, so it doesn't matter.

I've been working on a few other displays around the house, and we are hoping to decorate the tree and set up the village over the next few days or the weekend.
I have to put up the outside light this weekend. With a trip to Disney the weekend after Thanksgiving and a trip to Colorado to see our daughter the weekend before Christmas, we only have the weekend of Dec 10th to do everything else. :faint:

I wasn't that behind! Yay me!

I kept looking at both pictures of the wall and wondering if the one Josh is in is the missing piece his brother is in? If not i would lie and say yes. Make a cool story even better! LOL

The tree skirt came out really really cute! Can't wait to see your all new home turned into Christmas FUN!!

It was fun reading about your get away! Sometimes even a 1 night trip can make it seem almost like a vacation. I'm sure your nephew really appreciated you coming so far to his game. The wall - what a coincidence! The skirt looks great! Can't say I've ever washed a tree skirt. Love the truck and trailer - cute!

How fun to get away for the weekend and see Matt play. It was great you missed any snow. We only got about an inch but after the rain it was a little slippery. I had started putting up my outdoor decorations on a beautiful day without a coat last week. Then it snowed and I put off finishing until yesterday. It wasn't too bad but now I was in my winter coat. I wanted to get it done before this next snow.

I have a handmade tree skirt and I've never washed it. I'm afraid the red will turn the white pink. I also have an artificial tree and it doesn't really get dirty. Of course after I start putting presents under it you can't really see it. I always put them in the back first, but with 3 grandchildren it doesn't take long to cover up.

We go to my husband's sister's house for Thanksgiving now. We used to alternate having Christmas and Thanksgiving. Now they have Thanksgiving every year and we have Easter dinner as we are both so busy at Christmas. It's worked out great for us and I like to do an egg hunt so I've just kept Easter. And they live only 10 miles away. One year there was a fairly heavy snow, but the main roads were ok. I like not having to drive far though. I hope you are still able to have your own Thanksgiving. I really miss leftovers!

You are inspiring me to get out the Christmas stuff. I usually don't do much at home because we usually go see my parents in FL for Christmas (South FL, unfortunately nowhere near WDW lol) But anyway...so our Xmas stuff is all down there. But this year we are going so late (Dec 23) that I think I may have to try to make things a little festive at home as well. I love your tree skirt!! So cute. I know I have said this before, but I'm really in awe of you and people like you who are so crafty and can make something from nothing! WISH I could do it!

The skirt looks great. I can't wait to see it under a decorated tree.

Today I got rid of my old car. It's a little strange not having my old car anymore. It was my first car and I had it for 12 years.

I also got some Christmas shopping done today. It's so nice with everything that is done. Also it's wise to get the Christmas gift shopping done as early as possible while the shops still has the items I want to buy in store. The shops don't order more items to the store when they get close to Christmas because they want to have as few items in the store as possible when the new year comes and they have to count every item in the store and report it.

Today Tromsø got a new snow record. Actually it's a record of the lack of snow. The last record of this sort was set on 21st November 1944 which was the last day of no snow in Tromsø that year.
There is no snow in site on the weather forecast so this record can go on for a while.

I'm glad for every day I can practice driving without a lot of snow outside. The roads are very narrow at some places here in Tromsø without the snow. When the snow comes it will get even more narrow. So it's best that I get as much practice as possible now so I'm as best prepared as possible when the snow arrives.

Thanks - same to you! Drive safe today! And Happy Thanksgiving if I don't see you before then! :lovestruc
Thank you D! The roads have gotten much better in the past few hours so the drive home should go pretty smoothly.::yes::
Wishing you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving as well:goodvibes
And I love how the tree skirt turned out - super cute. The font of the letters really adds something special!:thumbsup2

So glad that you and Josh had a nice weekend away. Glad you made it back safely with the weather. We had a good dusting of snow here again and the temperature has definitely dropped. UGH!!!
Looks like you had a nice time at Universal. Sorry you both were not feeling well. Glad Cindy was able to give you a ride.

LOVE that tree skirt and the old fashioned truck and camper. Just too cute!!

On a side note, my mom had a follow up appointment with her specialist for her kidneys. Her numbers improved significantly and told her to continue doing what she is doing. We are so thankful. She will follow up again in a few months and then we will decide on the next plan of action of removing her kidney stones.

Wishing you and your family a Blessed Thanksgiving!!!

I was pretty behind, but now all caught up. Loved the photos of the Berlin wall and the brothers.

I don't know where to begin on the trip report, because I was so far behind. I wasn't overly impressed with Soarin' either. I wish the transitions would have been a little different.

We so want to try Universal again. Last we went, only the Islands portion of Harry Potter was complete. Plus, we would love to try out some of the rides we did enjoy back then. From what I can remember, Universal seemed so much hotter than our WDW days. Not sure what it was. I am glad V liked the area and got to experience it.

Update from Japan and Marissa. Well, she has been really homesick. She was tempted to take a flight home for a 4 day weekend. I told her that wouldn't be a very wise decision, especially with the flight times and the 10 hour layover in LA. This week, she is missing mashed potatoes. She did feel the earth quakes and was concerned about tsunami. However, that passed. I think she is getting a tad more used to the constant earthquakes, but it alarms her when her host family or her teachers seem alarmed, because that is when she knows it is a bad one. She went to DisneySea and I tried to share the photos on FB. She loved that one, even though she went with a "friend". That friend didn't show up on time and they arrived an hour after park opening. Then the person she went with (no longer friends at this point), didn't want to ride any of the rides and was already wanting to go home. Marissa told her to go home and tried to enjoy the rest of the day. She loved this park so much. She wasn't impressed with the Gaston though, Styrofoam muscles. On our first trip to WDW, she met Gaston and went to feel his bicep and gasped and said "It's real!" Well, Gaston had a hey day with this. So, this has been her pose ever since. So, to have fake muscles was a disappointment. Pretty sure she could have beat him to a push up match up (and she can't do one). She is planning to go to Tokyo Disneyland tomorrow on Thanksgiving, to try to cheer herself up. Her host mom is pregnant and her host family is moving to a bigger place, so she will be placed with a new host family and she is stressed about that. She had just kind of gotten used to them and to finding her way around where she lived. The new place could be up to an hour away, so she is worried.

On Sunday, Jacob, Chelsea and I were sitting around talking about summer plans. The dance studio was planning a trip to New York City, and I always have wanted to go. However, they are planning it before Marissa comes home. Plus, it is only 3 days and 2 nights. It would cost about $6,000 for the three of to go and we didn't really think we wanted to go in those circumstances. I had also read that Pandora is opening in Summer of 2017, so as of now, we will be going back to WDW in 2017. Haven't been since 2014. I am trying to figure out resorts and timing. Trying to figure out if Chelsea (almost 14 by then) can fit on the murphy type bed at Port Orleans Riverside. Otherwise, we might do 2 rooms at Pop Century. Last time we did Pop Century, Jacob didn't want to share with anyone, so slept on the floor for the 9 nights. No one really wants to share with him either. So, the rooms with only 2 beds don't work for us. AND, I have less than a year to plan.

Anyway, that is about all. We are driving 4 hours for Thanksgiving dinner to eat and come back home the same day. Chelsea has a dance performance on Saturday. A girl in her dance classes dislocated her knee on Monday, so Chelsea's classes get to meet on Friday to re-choreograph the numbers. This girl has not made it to Nutcracker the last 2 years, so I was kind of expecting this.

Hope you have a great Thanksgiving!

I'm glad you and your husband had a nice weekend away! I'm sure your nephew loved having you two at his hockey games.

I love your tree skirt. We have a tree skirt that we've used for many years and I've never washed it for fear the beading will come off. We also have an artificial tree so I don't have water and sap to worry about.

I hope you and your family have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Good morning everyone!

I just wanted to stop by and wish each of you a Happy Thanksgiving! I hope that those of you who are traveling have safe travels, and you all are able to spend the day with your loved ones!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!
