Tower of Terror Closing Officialy?

In the Mice Age rumor today he said that they've closed one of the lifts to begin the maintenance that needs to be done for the ride change over and that the ride is going to run at 66% capacity (with each lift closing for a refurb) until the ride officially closes in January. If it's true then that along with demand to ride it "one more time" explains the very lengthy waits for the ride lately.

That and the massive amount of people who are turning out to ride it. The late check out Sunday night was a 90 minute plus wait when we got in it at 630 and it got much worse. Demand is very high.

Disney is really stupid to take this great ride away. If they are so desparate for something Marvel, downsize the back stage storage or move it off site or underground. Then build a legit Marvel E ticket ride in DCA and leave TOT alone.

Lovely. Icing on the cake.

Does anyone know if there are Fast Passes available for Tower of Terror now? Every time I check the wait time apps they are "not available". We're going to try to ride at park opening but didn't know about Fast Pass availability.

I know there aren't any available for the Late Check-Out, but there should be during the day. At least there were 2 weeks ago when we were there. If you want to go in the dark you have to line up early and wait it out.

Ok, cool, thank you! They must be running out fast during the day. I knew late checkout was standby only.

I believe they ARE running out early. Last Saturday, I went around 11:15, and they were out already, so got some for Soarin' Around the World instead. We got in line around 3pm, and it was a 70 minute wait, but later that evening it was 180 minutes.

What really just makes me sad was DCA was originally California themed, then it became Pixar park. DL used to have Mickey Mouse and now he really is hidden. Why do they have to add marvel? Florida doesn't even have marvel at the parks. I have heard of the movie. I've seen the movie several times actually. But to take a ride that is clearly loved like ToT and turn it into something that isn't really California or Pixar just makes me sad. Now revamping tomorrowland I could stomach, sorry accept, a little better. Why add the launch Bay? Put marvel in there instead.

What are other rides in the DL or DCA got rid of in the past or are getting rid of now?
DCA: Superstar Limo re-themed to Monster's Inc. Maliboomer, gone. Luigi's Flying Tires, replaced with current Luigi ride.

Silly Symphony Swings, Goofy's Sky School and Mickey's Fun Wheel have also been re-themed, but are all still basically the same attraction.

In DL there are too many to count.

For DCA, what previous poster said plus the Golden Dreams show (was in the area where Mermaid is now) and the Millionaire Play It show (empty building next to Monster's Inc. and old Muppet's). Plus Muppets itself is closed and likely never coming back. And there used to be a Tortilla "factory" and a wine tour too. The area where Bugsland and some of Carsland had like a little "farmers market" theme. DCA has added quite a bit of new stuff though as they've removed things. It doesn't look anything at all like it did the first time I visited in 2002. And some of that stuff was already closed.

Check out this site to see how much Disneyland itself has changed over the years. It looks very little like it did when Walt was alive, even Fantasyland has been rearranged. http://www.yesterland.com/

I've been looking at the apps. It doesn't look like it's opened at all today. Can anyone confirm?

I am a little confused about Mickey being hidden, as I see him almost every time I go to Disneyland, and often at California Adventure. Although I'm bummed about losing that beautiful mural and Golden Gate Bridge (monorail), I love the Buena Street transition.

Not sure about this week, but last week they weren't doing them. They said it was because on of the elevators was down. at first I thought they were just running out early but then I went there at park open on my last day and they had a cm standing there to block of the FP area telling all of us they they wouldn't be doing FP that day. I'm not gonna lie I was pissed-I had been trying all week and if they had just communicated to park goers that there would be no FP all week I could have planned better accordingly- as it was I had to run back to DL for Jedi training and when I got back the TOT had a 75 minute wait (which was still better than the 120 minute wait it had later that day). If really felt like a kick in the pants. Firs they publicize the closing and invite people to come back for a last ride and picture-but then they mar the picture opportunities by removing the sign and putting up all the scaffolding and then they shut down an elevator and cut off Fp's increasing the wait times. I had to make 3 kids wait in a 75 minute line for a ride that they weren't go to ride to get my last chance ride and it was no picnic.

oh yea-that app also showed FP's last week even when they weren't giving them out-that was straw that broke the mothers composure about the whole thing last week. Everyday I hustled all the kids down there to get my FP because the app was showing them and then I'd get there only to find out it was wrong. I would be lying if I said it didn't put a damper on the whole trip as I got more and more irritated by it each day and by day 5 I was fed up.

Wow! DCA has changed a lot throughout the years! :thanks:

We were there Thu & Fri last week, Oct 6/7. My DD9 headed straight for ToT on the 6th. Signs said "15 minutes" Awesome! Then we waited & waited & waited for her to emerge ... from the bystander's point of view, only the elevator on the left was opening. I didn't see the middle or right one open the whole time I was standing down there. She waited ~45 minutes. Same thing as previous posters said - we'd see FP times, then it would be closed in reality - machine not offering FPs. We tried to make sure DD9 got there in the evenings to ride, but with lines almost 2+ hours long, she too agreed she got to ride it one more time, she certainly wasn't going to wait 2+ hours to ride it in the dark. Oh well. hubby & I didn't ride it at all. We were able to get Radiator Springs FPs 2 times Thursday & 2 times Friday, so that made up for it

Thanks for your reports. I find this information interesting. I know the ride is only running at 2/3 capacity (probably why there is no FP), but I often read complaints from people that FP distribution increases wait times. They claim we should get rid of FP and let everyone stand in line and that overall lines would be shorter. Well here we have no FP distribution, and still long lines. And of course upset guests because they'd rather have used the FP to "skip" the line. I love FP, and I think it generally adds to guest satisfaction as no one likes waiting 45, or 75 minutes for a ride, and no one wants to wait 2+ hours (though people do it). I'm glad Disney chooses to offer the free FP system so we can get on some rides quickly while we wait for others. And I feel for those who are visiting now and do not get to use the FP to help with the long wait.

What a bummer! I completely agree with you - the way they are handling this is very disapointing! They are advertising ToT as a special attraction during Halloween Time and it sounds like it's been very hard to get a ride.
