Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB RESORTS Information & Questions

Sorry if this has been covered here already (the thread is so large I get lost!) but my family and I have some questions about the upcoming Yacht Club Refurbishment....

I've read that it's the Convention Center only. Then I've read that they're re-doing all the YC rooms. We are going in November 2017 (yes a longgggggg time away) and we are trying to figure out if we will possibly be staying in brand new themed rooms there (which really excites us!). I read a few posts about the rooms being dated and old...they look so new in the pictures I never would have known. We are new to staying at the Epcot resort area so all we have been going off of are pictures and the Disboard threads.

Any insight or information is helpful! Thank you!

So I'm back home and mostly unpacked. I had a wonderful stay at the Beach Club. Getting the magical upgrade to Club Level was wonderful. I was in room 5725. It overlooked SAB. Loved that room.
It was loud during the day because of the pool games but that wasn't an issue for me - I was so worn out the one day I took a nap break that I had no problem sleeping through the noise.

All of the Club Level Staff were wonderful - making sure I had what I needed - one tracked me down a toothbrush when I realized I'd forgotten to get one in the gift shop since my luggage went to Kentucky my first night. (Southwest did find it and get it to me the next day.) The Club Level staff was able to link my MNSSHP magic band as well. Turns out it hadn't been activated like I was told but they were able to take care of it.

I loved eating a light breakfast in the lounge - since I was doing F&W, I didn't need a big breakfast. I really enjoyed the fruit and oatmeal. And 1 evening I was back early enough for a glass of wine and some desserts. I took a look at the snacks one afternoon and wasn't impressed with them but did stop in and get a Diet Coke during my break every afternoon so that was nice since I didn't do the refillable mug this trip.

One thing I learned was that if you do online check in, your credit card will be charged the full amount of your room cost on your arrival day. I had a room only reservation and I was going to apply a large gift card to pay for the room. They were able to remove the charges, apply the gift card and then charge the difference - it did take some time to do.

The decor in the room and at the resort are totally my style. I loved walking to Epcot and walked to DHS but it was so hot, that wasn't the best decision. I took the boat back to the resort from DHS that afternoon instead.
Sadly I caught a horrible cold so I only went to SAB once because I was too miserable for swimming. I found out the resort doesn't sell cough syrup but they do sell cough drops - I had plenty of my own cold tablets with me otherwise. And now that I'm home, it's morphed into a double ear infection (not fun!) but I loved the Beach Club and I will definitely try to stay there again.

:welcome: to the thread.

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list for next November.

Yes, lots of pages here, so it is understandable if you get lost. But I try to keep updated "maps" on the first page of important info to help you navigate. The info we have about the construction and rehabs at the resort can be found in the first post of the first page of the thread. There is also a place with guest reviews about the condition of the YC during recent stays (Link on Post 1 to the actual reviews on Post 16).

The YC room renovations are expected to start in late October and end sometime next summer. But having seen the BCV renovation continually pushed back and the YC renovation delayed once, until the work actually starts, I don't like to make any guesses about when it might be complete.

I haven't seen details about the Convention Center expansion, like what is happening and when it will start and is expected to be finished.

:goodvibes

@natebenma I just read a link to a story in the Orlando Sentinel about the YC construction/refurb. It states the room refurbishement will start in January 2017.

Thanks for the heads up on the story. I just checked it out and I will copy it into the next post.

Does anyone know how accurate stories in the Orlando Sentinel are?

:thumbsup2

Disney World's Yacht and Beach Club plans convention space expansion

by Sandra Pedicini, Orlando Sentinel, September 29, 2016

Walt Disney World's Yacht & Beach Club Resort plans to expand its convention space with an additional 25,000 square feet.

That will bring total convention space at the resort to 100,000 square feet.

Reedy Creek, the Disney-controlled taxing district, filed a permit application with the South Florida Water Management District this week for the work. Construction will also include additional parking space across Epcot Resorts Boulevard. Plans show the convention space being expanded to the north, where there is now a parking area.

The work will start next month and be finished in spring of 2018.

Rooms at the resort will also be refurbished, a Disney spokeswoman said. That will start in January and take about a year.

There has been speculation that expanding the Yacht and Beach Club's convention center could lead the way to demolition of meeting space at the Contemporary hotel to make way for more timeshare units there, said Tim Krasniewski, editor of DVCNews.com, in an email.

The Yacht and Beach Club, one of Disney World's deluxe resorts, opened 25 years ago. Events held there include last year's Economic Growth Summit that featured speeches by Republican presidential candidates.

How much disruption will this be to Storm Along Bay and Beach Club guests?

:welcome:

Do you have an upcoming trip?

I don't think it will have much impact. The Convention Center is on the opposite side of the resort, away from the Beach Club and SAB. It may have an effect on the parking at the resort if they take some of the spaces for the expansion.

There are some maps of the resort in the first post on Page 1 of this thread to give you an idea of where everything is located.

:)

I am considering a trip to the Beach Club in the Summer of 2017.

Do you think it will have much impact on Yacht Club guests? We have a garden/woods view, I'm wondering if it would be better to switch to lagoon?

Thanks for adding me to the BOG list! It took me about 80 scrolls on the first page to figure out what you were talking about! My exact dates are 03/26 - 04/03. My niece is dancing n some show on 04/01 and will be doing something in the 3pm MK parade 04/02. Have no idea what. My sister called to tell me about a month ago, and as soon as I heard the word Disney, I stopped really pay attention and started thinking about which resort I would stay at and how many days I had until my 180!!! Im sure in the next 6 months Ill know exactly what she is doing. I made all my ADRs for the MK 04/01 and 04/02, so Ill be there no matter what! I just hope she doesnt interfere with my BOG lunch! Weve had the breakfast and dinner before, but this will be out first time we go to lunch there and I heard lunch is the best.

On another great note....I wanted to stay at the Poly, but my daughter, 12, insisted on YC, for the pool. I tried to be sneaky and book BC, but they only had Club Level available, so I did end up booking YC. So glad I did! I got the DVisaC discount a couple of days ago and saved almost $1000! The Poly discount was only 10% and I think the BC was about the same!

I cant wait for our trip!!!

Unlike the BWV, the BCV's have plenty of exit doors. I would request a villa that is close to the BC, since that would be closest to the Marketplace and the International Gateway. Some people like to request a pool view, which is lovely. :)

They revised the room requests a few weeks ago and took away the views as requests. The requests were stuff like upper floor, large balcony.

woohoo! Joining in - We are doing our first trip without our DD5(almost 6) since she was born for a little adult F&W time - super excited! I'm still in shock as we had booked at POFQ but kept watching and waiting and hoping something at BC would open up for our dates... and this morning it was there! Yay! So happy to be back at BC and it will be perfect for our two night getaway!
