Mom & Son - The Bonus Trip! May 24th - 31st Update 8/7 - Y&Y and now complete!

Looks like Andrew likes bacon :-)

How did we miss this on our visit?????? I don't think we even saw this booth. Both look and sound amazing.

Love, love, love for me. Can't wait to have one next month!!!!

Wow, these look delicious. I'm clearly not a vegetarian either but we've found some really good veggie dishes in the world as of late that give the meat a run for their proverbial money

He does the indeed live his bacon!

Looking forward to your next reviews!

I do like a good veggie option now and then!

Will be thinking of you tomorrow when Julia and I try your fav VN pizza!

Hope the trip was great. Can't wait to eat all about it :-)

The villains party looks interesting. I wondered if it would be more fun for kids or adults. At least you got champagne! Would you do it again?

It was awesome! I will fill you all in as soon as I finish this one!

I would and I am! I booked it for DH and I on Halloween! I am really excited about it! I won't make the mistake of eating so much right before so we can enjoy the food and the drinks!

Glad to read your positive review of La Hacienda--just booked it today for our arrival day dinner! :)

Enjoy! We have had good meals there for the most part. I have read some so-so reviews but we haven't really had any negative experiences

Our last full day was at Animal Kingdom for one of the most disappointing Disney meals we have had. We decided to try Tiffins for lunch. The restaurant is beautiful

Then menu ...

Place setting ...

First up of course was iced tea!

Bread service

I don't remember much about this other than neither of us were thrilled over it. I don't think I ate much

We decided to share several appetizers

Tiffins Signature Bread Service - Pomegranate Olive Oil, Harissa Yogurt, Zhough Yogurt, Black-Eyed Pea Hummus

This was ok. Not as good as the one at Sanaa

Flash-fried Icy Blue Mussels - Za'atar Butter, Confit Tomato, Persian Cucumber

These were good. Andrew enjoys mussels more than I so he ate most of them. Very small portion

I wanted to try the Archaeologist Salad - Spring Vegetable Variations, Pumpernickel Soil, Champagne Vinaigrette

This was so blah. Just no flavor in the greens, the dressing. Blech. And again, super small portion. The picture makes it look bigger than it was

Sustainable Seasonal Fish Crudo - Roasted Corn Salsa, Finger Lime, Smoked Sea Salt

This was way out of our comfort zone. We are starting to eat more sushi so wanted to give it a try. We both hated it. Way too fishy. I don't blame the restaurant for this one. This was just not to our taste.

Continued in the next post ....

We were very underwhelmed with our lunch choices but still decided we had to try dessert

Tea menu

Coffee menu

My tea - the vanilla rooibos

South American Chocolate Ganache dessert

This was good! Really good. Fudgy and yet light

And the major issue we had with our meal ... Andrew's Coffee

Here's the super cute press pot

The problem is that it is extremely dysfunctional. When the waiter poured the first cup, he spilled coffee in Andrew's lap! I didn't realize it as he didn't tell me until the waiter had left. Not a ton of coffee, not a serious burn or anything but a good size spot that he definitely felt thru the khaki shorts. Good thing it wasn't bare leg. When Andrew poured a 2nd cup we could see how it was spilling on the table. Just a bad design with the pot. The waiter noticed and came over to show us how to properly pour it! Hello?! We know how to pour coffee, thank you. Of course, he also spilled it on the table and I then had to point out that he had spilled it into Andrew's lap the first time. He did apologize but it really didn't seem like he cared. We told him about the pot and he said he was going to let his manager know so that no one got seriously burned. Ok! Now we are getting some where. But then no one came to talk to us (the manager was there, we saw him talking to others). And we were charged for the pot. Don't get me wrong. I didn't expect the meal to be comped or anything but in pretty much any restaurant in the country, something would be done when coffee is spilled in a customer's lap! And we do hold Disney to a higher standard. If the manager had at least come to talk to us, we would have left happier. As it is, we left with a very bad impression of a very expensive restaurant. Needless to say, we won't be going back.

Tiffins will not be in our list and your review makes me feel good about my decision

After reading your review of Tiffins, I'm glad we decided to cancel our reservation on our trip earlier this month.

Some people have been thrilled with Tiffins, but the menu just does not wow me. We were going to include it and hoped for a RoL package, but I booked Yak & Yeti instead with TH for breakfast on our AK day and will probably book the SW dessert party instead of worrying about RoL at this point (for December) even if it does release. We will also have Sanaa (looking forward to bread service bigtime and so is my kiddo - he is 8 though), Boma & TH breakfast and Y&Y late lunch/early dinner. I'm good with those from the AK/AKL lineup and your Tiffins review does nothing to make me sorry we are forgoing it.

Yikes, your review of Tiffins has me double thinking our plans to go next month! Though I'd recently read they have changed their lunch where they do smaller versions of their dinner entrees. Maybe we'll go that route vice the appetizers.

Tiffins does indeed look beautiful. Shame the food wasn't to your liking and double shame what you had to experience with the coffee. At least the dessert was good.

We were hungry a bit later and decided to try a few snacks ...

We tried the falafel

and the samosas

Not a good food day for us so far --- must of these went in the trash. Just not much flavor. Not worth the calories!

So we decided to try the Harmabe Market

Chicken Kabob

This was very tasty. Nice char-grilled flavor. A very good snack

Tikka Masala

This is not my thing but Andrew really enjoyed it.

It rained while we were there so a nice respite for a snack and to stay dry!

Dinner was at Yak & Yeti

Limited time special

Cute cup

First up the fried green beans

This was good as always ... crisp and not greasy at all

Potstickers

Again, solid, reliable Not greasy. Not much different from standard potstickers you can get any where but still very good

Won ton soup

This was very flavorful. I really liked the flavor of the broth

I decided to have the lettuce cups as my entrée

There were very good I wanted something a bit lighter and these fit the bill perfectly

DS liked the Tikka Masala so much he got that as his entrée

He loved this. A new favorite for him. I didn't taste as this is not my flavor profile. But he really enjoyed it

Of course you can't eat at Y&Y without the star of the show... the wonton dessert!

There were good as always. Possibly my favorite WDW dessert. I truly love them

All in all a very enjoyable dinner. Service was a bit slow but we weren't in a hurry so it was fine with us

Our last meal was at the food court before the ME picked us up.

For some reason I really wanted a hot dog wrapped in the pretzel roll

And a make your own salad

The salad was way over dressed for me so I ended up very glad to have the hot dog. It was surprisingly tasty!

DS just had a banana and a chocolate croissant but I don't seem to have a picture.

All is all was had an amazing trip. Great food with the exception of Tiffens and a super enjoyable time spent with DS. If this is the last trip that the two of us go by ourselves, it was definitely a good one!

Next year we are hoping to go back with both DS and his girlfriend. Looking forward to that but definitely cherish the time he and I have spent!

I will start a new thread for the quick trip with the DGF and I ... then coming in October ... Mom & Dad without the Son! Empty Nest trip to celebrate our 25th anniversary! Many Food & Wine events planned as well as our first dinner at Victoria and Alberts!

Wow, animal kingdom was not treating you well this trip. Funny aside we tried to do Harrambe on our last trip and after standing in the blazing sun for almost 15 minutes and not moving anywhere we hopped out of line and got.....yep falafel and samosa's :-) Though we were so hungry at that point we would have eaten the box they came in.

Glad Y&Y redeemed AK for you all. 16 days and we'll be devouring those amazing wontons for ourselves.

Thanks for another wonderful report Vickie!!!!

Lovely report, thank you :goodvibes

Great report as usual

Appreciate the kind words!

No, it did not. Funny about your snacks! Y&Y has always been pretty reliable for us. Service can sometimes be 'off' but the food has generally been top notch. It's funny though because our first time there was our first Mom & Son trip (DS was 12) and we HATED it! Worst meal of that trip by far. Said we would never go back. After reading many great reviews, we went back our following trip (with Dad!) and have loved it since. No idea what went wrong that first visit!
