Labeling your kids

Am considering Safetytats for my 2 yo but reviews seem mixed. Wondering about sunscreen in particular causing problems. Also thinking he's likely to pull it off.

If not Safetytats, what is your favorite method for putting a phone number on your kids?

We used safety tats and didn't have a problem. Stayed on the kids six days through swimming and we shower our kids each night. This was before magic bands.

Sharpie to the forehead, covered in clear duct tape.

Duct tape? That may fall off if the kid sweats. Staple gun is sweat proof and can't be pulled off...

We've never done any of those things, we just do as cdnjason said, watch our kids. If I had to do something, I suppose the bracelet isn't a bad idea. Personally, I say whatever you do please don't subject your poor child to those leashes that they try to disguise as a backpack with an animal shape on it. Leashes are for dogs, not kids. If you need a leash to keep an eye on your kid, maybe it's not your kid that's the concern.

I used a dog tag engraved with our cell numbers. It attached to their shoes, so a non-invasive place for people to look if the needed to find the number, rather than on the body. I figured the only time they wouldn't have their shoes on was when they were swimming, and there's zero chance of ever looking away when they were in water.

with what ever method you use remember to take a pic on your phone of child each day so you pull up if needed. this way you can easily show what child is wearing that day

I was always the most critical of these threads when it came to marking up your kids, etc when going to a theme park. After all, 3 kids in and we've never had an issue. Then, last year at a water park in NJ, as we strolled off in different directions, my wife assumed that I had my daughter next to me while I assumed that she had my daughter next to her. We were only separating for about 2 minutes, running another kid to the bathroom while the other went to the towel bag to grab something, and in the process my 3 year old was somehow missed. When we both met up again and quickly realized that she was not there, I cannot even begin to explain the degree of panic and fear that sets in. It only took about 15 seconds of looking around where we saw her sitting on a step, teary eyed and looking for us. Again, 3 kids over the course of 10 years and not one issue ever losing, misplacing, forgetting a kid. It took once "hiccup" where assumptions were made on both ends and all of a sudden you have a missing child.

Mark up the child, tattoo the child, even tie one of those really long balloons to her arm, the kind you find at a used car lot. It's all good.

Also, never make assumptions!

Not having kids I try not to judge if a kid should need a leash... My concern though has always been that the leashes don't seem safe for the parks. With as busy as it is if that gets pulled tight someone is going to crash into it and trip which will probably pull your kid down with them since there is a good chance the person that tripped has more mass then your small child.

Wow you did pretty good for 10 years. I was child number 4 and the youngest by a long shot. One may think with 2 parents and 2 siblings that were only 15 before I was born that there were more then enough eyes to watch me. However what generally happened was what you said. Person A thought I was with person B...most of the time I was until person A went to go somewhere and I decided to follow them. I had a few times I had gotten lost, a few times that I was with someone else but no one in the original group knew where I was etc... I was generally find I almost always knew where I was and most of the time where at least one of the adults was... for some reason they always thought they needed to know where I was too. :)

When DS was little we always put our phone number on a sticky label on the back of his shirt. He couldn't pull it off, it wasn't visible in pictures, but easy for anyone helping him to see.

He was a runner and would quite frequently get away from me so it was good peace of mind. I never felt the need to do that with DD because she was always glued to my side. It just depends on the kid.
