New Year, New Experiences! A January 2016 TR - I’m here at WDW! 3/25

What a super fun trip!!!

Awesome that Calvin can ride the big rides now. That must have been so fun seeing his reactions :)

Quentin is beyond adorable!

Knotts looks great. Sorry so many rides were not Calvin approved. Glad he started liking some of them. So cute seeing him run up to Snoopy.

Lots of delicious food popcorn::

Congratulations on Aulani in October! I'll be reading your TR with special attention, we're going next May :hyper:

So I just found your report...:rolleyes1

I LOVE it! The boys are adorable!

I can't wait to read more!

Lynn

Ohhh you're going to fall in love with Aulani :lovestruc We had our first visit in April last year and didn't want to leave, it's heaven! Hoping we can get back there one day.
What a fun short trip to Disneyland and Knotts. Cal is so funny with his emotions on the rides "I hate it, but I love it, I want to ride it again" haha

Alicia!!! I'm so sorry I have been so MIA lately I have fallen so so woefully behind! Again! But I am catching up as quick as I can!!! :flower3:

The Aulani trips sounds AMAZING! :thumbsup2

Love the DL/Knotts Berry Farm report! I'm so torn on either DCL or DL for our next big trip so it's good to read reviews!

Glad Calvin is tall enough for the big rides now! But poor guy had a rough start there at Knotts Berry Farm! Glad he found some things he liked and it seems like everyone had a great time in the Old West town!

Well, I did it. I took the plunge and subscribed. LOL! I will do my very best to be here as I can, but with starting a brand new job, in a BRAND new field, I can't make any huge promises. Will have to begin from Pg. 1 and make tracks here. :)

Just getting caught up:

Aulani! :woohoo::cool1::cheer2::banana:

You are absolutely going to love it there. I can't wait for you to experience Hawaii!!

Thanks for the mini-TR on DLR and Knott's. So cool that Cal is ready for the big-time! Well, physically anyway. Love the Soarin' pin you gave him for his accomplishment.

Agreed on the Stanley Cup. Stupid Penguins.

I remember we used to give the kids disposable cameras for our trips when they were really little. Most of the photos were terrible, but every once in a while you'd get a winner!

I meant to comment before I left on vacation but completely ran out of time. The only thing I remember that I was going to say is that I can't believe that you hadn't seen Paint the Night before this!!!!
Mrs Knotts chicken dinner is one of my most favorite meals. I'm thinking that we need to go there once we get back from this trip!
I'll just make you jelly and say that I'm sitting in the Promenade Lounge enjoying a lovely melon cocktail on a beautiful warm and sunny (very unusual) day in Alaska, while avoiding a cranky Fran who is trying to nap in the stateroom! Catching up on the DIS while on US soil and I have a signal.

I read through and liked your posts a few days ago. I've just given up the idea of commenting on my phone, but I did want to say congratulations to Calvin for making the height and getting his first "big kid" ride on Soarin!

Oh yeah... and enjoy Aulani!!!!

I wanted to make it official here (don't think I have yet?:confused3) but we're going to Aulani in October! I know i've mentioned it on a few comments here and on other TR's but wanted to wait to make the announcement until some physical postpartum stuff cleared up but it looks like things will be fine! Here's what we're looking at:

Where: Disney's Aulani
What: One Bedroom, Island Garden View
When: Saturday, October 8 - Friday, October 14, 2016 (6 nights, 7 days)
Who: DH, Cal, Q, DM and me!
Why: Our 10 year anniversary!:goodvibes
First, hope all is well with your and Q's health. And second....CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! On both the trip and 10 years. So exciting. We hit our 10th next year and Hawaii (and Disneyland) are on our list of potential trips.

Q is just along for the ride. BTW, he was 5 weeks here. He beat out Cal’s first trip to Disneyland by one week!

Oh how precious, he is perfect!

Now that we had an extra person with us, traveling was much different. I was forced to sit in the middle back because I was the only one that would fit!

Sounds like a great seat :-) Hope the trip wasn't too long.

We have Disneyland AP’s that were good to use that Wednesday and Thursday so we thought we’d try and do something at DLR Wednesday night and then spend all day Thursday in the parks, then drive over to Knottsberry the following day.
How do annual passes work at DL that they are only good for certain days?????

We wanted to catch some of the hockey game – am NOT satisfied the outcome of the Stanley Cup, BTW – so the best place to watch that at was ESPN Zone, where some little guy was trying to steal a bite

Love he is a little hamburgler already!

But OH MY GOSH. If you haven’t seen it or never planned on seeing it because you’re not a parade person, stop acting a fool and see this! The parade song is from Wreck it Ralph (which DS was totally into!) and the floats were absolutely gorgeous. Check out my not so great pictures!

I hope we get to see this in person someday. It looks totally amazing.

We told him to go up to the bar and the CM said he BARELY makes it but he made it! :cool1::banana: YES!!! Our whole touring style was going to be so much different that what we were used to and DH was the most excited I’ve seen him in a long time. We now had an extra riding buddy for BTMR, Splash, Soarin’, etc!

And once it went up he started crying, but towards the end he calmed down a little bit

and once we got off he wanted to go back on again :confused3 I’m so confused by his emotions! I told him that if he wanted to later, we’d come back but let’s try some other rides.
Get ready cause the confusion will continue for years to come :-)

The only other picture I took here was the Fried Green Tomato Sandwich, I’ve had one at the Jazz Kitchen before in DTD, but this one tasted so much better!

OMG this looks so good. I'm a sucker for all things fried green tomato!

DH put him in one of the planes and this happened

Oh poor little guy.

We did some more attractions that were suitable for Cal, went back to Ghost Town but they had called it a wrap (I think about two hours before park closing), ate some more yummy food, and called it a night about 30 minutes till closing. I highly, highly recommend checking out Knott’s Berry Farm if you’re ever in the area. You can get discounted tickets through UT and there’s plenty to do! We felt like we didn’t have enough time to see the back of the park, so DH is trying to plan another trip there. But I’m pretty sure he has a hidden agenda, hoping to spend more time ‘acting out’ with Ghost Town Alive again.
Looks like a great time at Knott's Berry Farm. We went there a few times when I was a kid (my aunt and uncle lived in Buena Park) and its good to see the fond memories are continuing

How do annual passes work at DL that they are only good for certain days?????

I can answer this one! There are about 4-5 different levels of passes, the less expensive o es have more block out days. You can buy an unlimited one, but they run around $1200 now. The limited ones are much more affordable.

:cool1: I hope you have a wonderful time (and I'm sure you will). :goodvibes

I'm SO excited! This entire weekend I was on the DIS re-reading the beginning of your TR, @Captain_Oblivious and Cynthia's. Took down a bunch on notes (including exits numbers!) because the 90 day mark was yesterday so I pre-registered Calvin for Aunty's. I may have a few questions for you soon

I may have already mentioned it, but there is a big "Aulani Villas and Views" thread on here that is really helpful for room requests. If you end up in the right Island Garden room you might have a glimpse of the ocean too (my in-laws did on this last trip!)

Perfect I'll be off to find that thread shortly. I can't make any requests until 10 days before during online check-in anyway right (Assuming they do Online Check-in??)

Wow, very nice! :thumbsup2

It really was such a cool room. Spacious!

So true, though. Great parade.

This parade was amazing! So glad we got to see it.

Wow, that's awesome! Our next WDW visit (December) should be like that....Izzy is just under 40" without shoes right now, so she should be good to go in 6 months! She is excited to ride the "big rides" and has proven a little daredevil thus far (on smaller things).

Yay Izzy! I'm sure she'll handle the bigger rides like a boss ::yes::
Haha, silly kid. :rotfl2: By the way, Izzy was sitting near me while I read the updates and wanted to watch all the videos. She kept saying, "When I get big, I'm going back to Disneyland and I'm going to RIDE THAT!!!" (even the Knott's Berry Farm ones :rotfl:)

:rotfl2:She's such a doll!

:goodvibes Aw, making me all teary here.

Made it even more special for me, knowing that my Dad's favorite ride at Disneyland was Soarin' (especially the jets scene) :goodvibes

Wow, he did pretty good! :thumbsup2

I think so! Definitely want to get some type of cheap camera for him.

Thanks for posting about it! I love to hear about recent fun!

Thanks!

I enjoyed reading about your quick DLR trip and Knott's Berry Farms!

Yay for Cal's first big boy ride! I can't imagine how exciting it is for you guys to finally get to experience the bigger rides with him! I also love the idea of getting him a pin to celebrate the big moment.

Your DH's antics had me laughing out loud while reading this post! If he does sneak back hopefully you will report back on his mischief in Ghost Town Alive.

That Nemo apple is so cute, almost too adorable to eat! I am also a fan of Cal's artistic photography skills. He really captured some great moment for all of us here to enjoy :rotfl2:

DH and I were so excited that he made it into the land of Big Boy rides! Looking forward to all our future trips to WDW and DLR now even more.

DH took the role of being in a riot way too seriously :lmao: But when he's given a role, he goes all out!

:laughing:Cal's perspective makes me laugh! He had my phone when DH and I were putting in new couches and he took one of DH squatting to pick up the old couch and he had the angle and lighting just right, it was such a cool shot, even though it was of a squatting man

Aulani! So jealous. Some friends of outs from here just got back today. Their pics on FB were amazing. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time.

Love your mini TR. I'm so glad Calvin was big enough for some of the bigger rides. Love that he loved Soarin'! And I love the video of him dancing to the Cajun music!

Knott's Berry Farm looks like so much fun! Those Snoopy pics. OMG. We are going to Cedar Point in Ohio in a few weeks, and they also have the Peanuts characters, so I hope we get to meet Snoopy!

Quentin is so cute. What a little sweetheart!

I'm beyond excited! It's been fun doing research for this new adventure. And i'm very happy it's not as detail oriented as a trip to WDW would be:thumbsup2

I was looking at one of the cups that was in the store at Knott's and it said Cedar Point and a few other places and I had no idea that Peanuts characters were at these theme parks as well! I thought it was exclusive to Knott's but very cool!

Yay! Congrats on the new trip planned! Aulani looks like such a great place to visit!

It really does look like such a fun (and dare I say, relaxing!) place. Totally looking forward to exploring this resort.

Nice upgrade! The room looked very comfortable!

Even though it was just for the night, it was nice to have all that extra space for Cal to run around in.

Sounds like a fun couple of days!

Totally was!

That is awesome they used the music from Wreck-it-Ralph. I feel that movie and its characters are so underrated!

YES! :worship: DH and I love everything about this movie. The gaming aspect of it, is what draws DH to it (of course!)

This parade looks and sounds amazing! all the floats are beautiful! I also love how Mickey is in his Sorcerer costume!:lovestruc

You've got to watch it one day if you ever make it out here.
Yay!!! That's so exciting!!!:cheer2:
That's great Calvin like riding Soarin!

The Knottsberry farm looked really cute and a lot of fun! And Calvin really does have some great photography skills, but I think that last one of the lady should be scrapbooked or something, that is just too funny!

Glad to her you all had a nice time, and also, Q is so cute!:lovestruc

Looking forward as always to read more!

I was so happy that Cal enjoyed Soarin', that was the one ride I was praying for! :hyper: And you're right, I should totally make a scrapbook for him of all the pictures he has taken over the years!

What fun updates! I've been following your TR's since you took DS1 to WDW as a newborn baby. I can't believe he's now riding the big rides! Both your DS's are adorable. Your trip to Aulani sounds wonderful - hope you do a TR!

:goodvibes:goodvibes

To see Cal going from a stroller to a big boy ride is awesome! It's so fun to experience him growing up at DLR/WDW!

I'm definitely doing a TR to Aulani! ::yes::

First off - super happy for you that you are going to Aulani! No idea if we will ever get there (just scared of that plane flight with 3 kids) but it looks really nice!

What was shocking for me while doing research for Aulani, was that most people were coming from the East Coast/Mid-West so their flights were SUPER long but they survived and i'm pretty sure you guys would survive too! You could do a little break in between flights and come visit DLR again ::yes::

Second, super glad you got to see Pain the Night - even if not my super, secret viewing location ;) ... seems like you got a good spot! And with rumors of it leaving Disneyland for Walt Disney World as of September, probably good you got to see it when you did

WHAT!??? NO FREAKIN' WAY. This is really, really sad. :sad2: Hasn't it only been in production for like 3 years?? The upside is we're DVC members- we'll get to WDW again (many more times!)

Looks like fun at Knottsberry .. well, at least once you got to attractions Cal liked better, and does sound like good food too! That Ghost Town looks pretty cool - and DH definitely has his priorities straight ;)

I was just glad Knott's Berry turned out to be a success! For both Cal and DH :rotfl2:

Great pictures by Cal! ... especially that last one which totally set the scene!

:laughing:He's quite a character!

When we have rented strollers it has always been the City Mini double and that has worked out well. And we did that for DLR and got the standing board attachment so the third kid can ride on that (not that I am pushing you to 3 kids or anything, just mentioning that as an added option you can rent). I think for our upcoming trip since we are driving we will just bring our regular big stroller which is a uppa baby that we have the rumble seat attachment for so at least 2 kids can ride, but we actually haven't decided on this.

Definitely not ruling out the standing board attachment (who knows what can happen kid-wise in the future ::yes::) I'm looking at pictures online through uppababy and that stroller looks so versatile! So essentially you can also have three kids on one stroller (two sitting, one on a piggyback board!). But I like that it's not wide like the City Mini Double and instead it's longer. Very cool!

Really enjoyed your DL reporting. We may take our first trip there this October -- so it's great to get some perspective.

Ooh I hope you make it out here! October will be a fun time too since the HM will have the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay, which is always super popular. Plus great weather (can be warm) and depending on your dates, crowds aren't too heavy.

Just caught up with WDW - I am SO jealous because I was planning out a trip for the exact same time - early Jan - just to catch the end of the Osborne Lights, but sadly the timing just wasn't working  So even though it was crazy busy you were so lucky to see them!!! I never got to see them ever booooo.

Also, I loved your Poly check in coverage because it reminded me of my first night at the Poly :lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc Your villa is so cool! Love the two bathrooms, I bet that comes in handy when there are four of you. And YAY for retrieving your stroller!!! Finally. Hopefully things go smoother from here!

Now I'm off to read your Disneyland report!

I'm so sad for you that you never got to see them! They really were so beautiful :cloud9: Hopefully they'll do something similar like this again in the future!

Ahh the Poly!:love: So in love with that place. Is it possible to have like 5 favorite resorts, cause I totally do! ::yes:: I love that the studios here has the 'extra' bathroom, makes getting ready in the mornings/nights so much easier.

Yeeeeeaaahh! That is awesome. Are you going to write about it?

Heck yes I am! I want to remember this trip forever (just in case we don't ever get back to HI again!)

My little mini-me for sure!

There seems to be a trend with this kid  Also, it it totally heinous of me to find the crying videos/photos hilarious..?! :lmao:

Um, absolutely not, I posted it for laughs! I'm such an evil mom for laughing at my poor, frightened child :rotfl2:

"Did you like it?" "NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" :rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

He was going through my phone the other day and he came across this video and he said, "The Red Baron ride. I don't want to go on that again." :lmao:

Owww this picture is everything. And that baby-carrying shirt is genius, is it comfortable?!

It's actually a moby wrap! Totally comes in handy for rides with a small baby or even just walking around. Leaves me (pretty much) hands free and able to eat, drink, shop, console a terrified toddler :lmao:

Ok, now I don't blame Calvin for not liking this one, it looks awful?!!?!? Rated 1/10 - would puke.

I thought it was going to be a nice, smooth ride (didn't get to actually see it in motion beforehand since we walked up right as the previous riders were exiting!) and once it started going I was like....":rotfl:he's so going to start crying!"

Did someone say Hufflepuff..?

:rotfl::rotfl2:

Sounds like the perfect kid to me!!!

::yes::

Hahah he's such a hoot.

I'm telling you, him and Jamie would be perf together touring parks! So many ridiculous antics to be had.

Owww Mini-Me is a tiny little human!!!!! :cutie:

Just an 11 pound dude!:bitelip:

Coolest kid in town. I need that Charlie Brown wristband in my life asap.

I remember in my pre-teen years, those slap wristbands were everything! Totally retro.

These two pictures are greatness.

Hey this is good!! Good job Calvin.

I'm totally getting him his own camera soon! Do they make disposables anymore??? :confused3

:rotfl2: I already saw this on FB but it's still funny the second time around :rotfl: Poor woman looks so awkward :lmao:

Great mini-report! Are there any bigger rides at Knott's Berry, or is it just a kiddy place? Looks cute either way, I've loved Peanuts since I was a kid :lovestruc Thanks for sharing!

The fact that I still see his 'work' on my phone, cracks me up every time! He's brilliant.

There are lots of big rides! Some really cool ones too that DH and I would have loved to get on, but the waits were pretty long and I didn't want to have DM wait with the two kids (darn you Knott's for not having a FP system!)

Just an FYI - just a rumor that Pain the Night is leaving. Looks like Disneyland Forever is definitely ending in September - partly because they need to build a new fireworks launch area so that it won't force the closure of Star Wars land when fireworks go off

Lots of delicious food popcorn::

Congratulations on Aulani in October! I'll be reading your TR with special attention, we're going next May :hyper:

It was so fun getting to see his (mainly frightened!) reactions. But I know with time, he'll learn to love them! Hopefully :scratchin

Oh my gosh YAY that you'll be going to Aulani next year! You and your mom, yes?? I'll be as detailed as possible in that TR for sure. I found that there are four or five TR's that i've read, have been super helpful. But because it's fairly new, there aren't nearly as many planning threads/TR's as there are for WDW so hopefully when the time comes I can point you in the direction of those particular TR's (and hopefully mine will help you too!)

Awww. What a great update. So great to see your boys all enjoying DLR and Knotts!

 ALL my boys enjoyed Knott's! :rotfl2:

So I just found your report...:rolleyes1

I LOVE it! The boys are adorable!

I can't wait to read more!

Lynn

Aww thanks Lynn! Back to our regularly scheduled program here in a few!

Ooh do you have a TR on Aulani?! Always looking for new ones. Or any tips you can give would be great too!

:rotfl:He's definitely all over the place with his emotions, just like his dad

Cute interlude trip! OMG that last picture of that lady cracked me up!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

:rotfl2:When I first saw it I DIED! Had I seen it sooner I would have apologized to that lady! I'm sure she wasn't expecting some little kid to take her picture that day.

Alicia!!! I'm so sorry I have been so MIA lately I have fallen so so woefully behind! Again! But I am catching up as quick as I can!!! :flower3:

Lu!

Oh my, deciding between DCL and DLR has got to be rough. Have you done either? DCL is nice that you don't have to plan too much, especially in the food department. Rotating dinners every night, choose which restaurant/buffet you want for breakfast and lunch (or room service which is included!). Lots of entertainment on board for the boys (so maybe you and DH could sneak away for a nice dinner by yourselves!). But man, DLR is fun and the boys would have a blast!

:rotfl:Yep it was definitely not the start we were hoping for that morning at Knott's especially given the lack of crowds, if he liked them, he could have went on MULTIPLE times! But it turned out good in the end.

Well, I did it. I took the plunge and subscribed. LOL! I will do my very best to be here as I can, but with starting a brand new job, in a BRAND new field, I can't make any huge promises. Will have to begin from Pg. 1 and make tracks here. :)

Oh Liesa, please don't do that to yourself! You are far too busy to start at the beginning, but I will be posting an update either today or tomorrow :goodvibesThanks for joining!

Just getting caught up:

Aulani! :woohoo::cool1::cheer2::banana:

Thanks Mark for all the great tips you included in your Aulani TR! Went through the Aulani portion of your TR over the weekend and jotted down a bunch of stuff. Totally looking forward to checking out this place and experiencing some new adventures!

At the rate he's going, i'm not sure he'll ever by 'ready' for the big rides! DH informed me that he was the biggest wuss (even as a 12/13 year old :scared1:...) so I shouldn't expect too much out of Cal for at least another 10 years :rotfl:

Penguins...Oh you poor, poor man :sad2:

I need to find out if they still make disposable cameras cause i'll definitely get a few for Cal for our Aulani trip! Would love to see what he captures.

Alison, i'm a terrible DIS'er/DLR goer. Yep that was my first time seeing Paint the Night and now i'm saddened to hear that it may be moving to WDW! :sad1::sad: Gosh darn it, and i'm not even a parade person! But for this one, I would totally wait 30-45 minutes to stake out a good spot and watch again!

I told DH and DM that Mrs. Knott's came highly recommended by you! Those biscuits??!!?! OH! I think I had like 5, but I could have easily had more!

:rotfl2:I hate when you make me jelly! But i'm so glad you were able to take a breather from Fran and relax with a cocktail and DIS! You are amazing :thumbsup2

I read through and liked your posts a few days ago. I've just given up the idea of commenting on my phone, but I did want to say congratulations to Calvin for making the height and getting his first "big kid" ride on Soarin!

Oh yeah... and enjoy Aulani!!!!

Commenting on phones is the WORST! Especially when mine looks like this (Actually worse!)

A9_iPhoneScreen_DanielSmith-280x300.png

Thanks for stopping by :goodvibes

First, hope all is well with your and Q's health. And second....CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! On both the trip and 10 years. So exciting. We hit our 10th next year and Hawaii (and Disneyland) are on our list of potential trips.

Ooh I hope you do make it to both those places next year! Technically our 10 year is in a week and a half (July 21) but since he goes back to work on the 26th, we thought we'd wait oh Aulani until October when he gets a week off :thumbsup2

Oh how precious, he is perfect!

He really is, I love him! :goodvibes

Sounds like a great seat :-) Hope the trip wasn't too long.

:crowded:

Actually it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. Pumping back there was pretty tricky though:teacher:

How do annual passes work at DL that they are only good for certain days?????

From @franandaj

I can answer this one! There are about 4-5 different levels of passes, the less expensive o es have more block out days. You can buy an unlimited one, but they run around $1200 now. The limited ones are much more affordable.

We have the So Cal Resident AP so it's very limited to when we can go, but the next one up (Deluxe) is $599 (or $42/month + $95 down to make it easier on the wallet) gives lots more days and it includes most Saturdays and Sundays (So Cal AP doesn't ) But depending on when you go, DL can run different promotions, like this one their running now through December 31, 2017.

If you need help as it gets closer, i'd love to answer any questions you may have!

Love he is a little hamburgler already!

:rotfl2::rotfl:That's a good one!

I hope we get to see this in person someday. It looks totally amazing.

Well apparently, i'm sure you will, as I was just informed it may be moving over to WDW soon!

Get ready cause the confusion will continue for years to come :-)

NOOOOOOO!

Ah, now I know why beer was made! :drinking1

OMG this looks so good. I'm a sucker for all things fried green tomato!

It was so delicious and refreshing, yet light, even though it was fried.

Oh poor little guy.

You're the only kind one around here. I was smiling when I took that picture

Looks like a great time at Knott's Berry Farm. We went there a few times when I was a kid (my aunt and uncle lived in Buena Park) and its good to see the fond memories are continuing

Woah! And did you ever visit DLR when visiting your aunt and uncle??

Just an FYI - just a rumor that Pain the Night is leaving. Looks like Disneyland Forever is definitely ending in September - partly because they need to build a new fireworks launch area so that it won't force the closure of Star Wars land when fireworks go off

I'm okay with that, I'm way more concerned with Paint the Night! Sometimes these rumors always have some truth to them, so i'm hoping this isn't the case but thanks for the reassurance!

It was so fun getting to see his (mainly frightened!) reactions. But I know with time, he'll learn to love them! Hopefully :scratchin

Fingers crossed! He did really good trying all those rides. Some kids would probably say no more after a few bad ones. He kept trying new ones :)

Oh my gosh YAY that you'll be going to Aulani next year! You and your mom, yes?? I'll be as detailed as possible in that TR for sure. I found that there are four or five TR's that i've read, have been super helpful. Yep, me and mom for our annual Mother's Day trip. Our trips are going to be even more special now that I can't see her whenever I want to. It's still very surreal that I've moved.

I'd love to read the TRs you've found worthy. :)

Yep, me and mom for our annual Mother's Day trip. Our trips are going to be even more special now that I can't see her whenever I want to. It's still very surreal that I've moved.

Wait are you in FL now?! I'm sorry I totally missed this! You don't have a PTR or TR going that I don't know about do you???

GAH!!! You made me snort here at work! That last picture of the unsuspecting lady! TOO FUNNY! Have a great time at Aulani. It's a great place, awesome time.
