Some of the magic is lost for me now... what are your feelings?

Our next trip to Disney is this August where we have reservations for a 1 bedroom villa at The Boardwalk (our home hotel. so to speak). But in light of everything that has happened recently (Pulse, Grimme, GF sadness), I'm just "not feeling" it. I find myself sitting here wondering if I should just cancel the entire trip. I think a big majority of it is tied to Disney itself (is the bloom off the rose for me just a little bit?) because I feel an accumulation of incidents has adversely affected my Disney spirit ... Children drowning at AofA and Pop Century, the Contemporary death 3 months ago, the boy losing his life in the bus incident... all of it seems to be getting to me.

Please.. I apologize... I don't mean to be doom and gloom.. but it's a feeling I just can't shake. I was just wondering if anyone else was having reservations about going to Disney this summer? Has anyone felt, even for a moment, like me?

I understand your gloom, but these incidents have had the opposite effect on me. I was packing this morning and realized that my expectations have changed for our trip. As long as we come back healthy, I will be happy. Life is short. We are not guaranteed the rest of today, let alone tomorrow. I am going to go, love on my family, share in magic with all of those around me, and focus on what is important. I had become borderline obsessed with fast pass times, matching outfits, dining reservations, specific resort requests, etc. I had lost focus of what truly is important.

I hope that you are able to find an inner peace. As we all learned in Inside Out, emotions are important and purposeful, but that doesn't mean that you can't let Joy have a place, too. (((Hugs)))

The death of this boy has effected me as well but it's not going to make me cancel my trips to Disney. It has, however, made me be more prudent and cautious about everything at Disney. I used to, like many people, think that being in the Disney bubble, nothing bad could happen. After all, Disney is taking care of everything and all bad things are in the real world, not at Disney. The first time, my bubble popped a bit was many years ago at Disneyland. We used to park our baby stroller with all of the multitudes of strollers when we went on rides and we would keep all of our bags, purses, etc.... in the stroller. For years we did this without for one second thinking anything bad could happen. After all we were at Disney. Well one day our stroller was stolen with all of our stuff in it!! Including my son's diabetes kit with his insulin etc.... I was crying, wondering what I would do without his medication, panicking etc.... eventually the security at disney found out stroller. It was apparent that the thieves had gone through our stuff looking for valuables but they left the diabetes kit. We had our money and camera on us, by luck that day. We were told there was a burglary ring at disneyland that they were aware of where the thieves were stealing strollers to steal the valuables in them. Anyway, that was the first time my husband and I woke up and realized bad things and bad people can enter the gates of Disney. That beaing said, we still felt up until this incident with the alligator that Disney would never let anything bad happen to us. They would be on top of any issue and everything is totally safe at Disney no matter what. Well, not the rest of our Disney bubble has been completely popped and from this point on, our guards are going to be way up and we will be questioning everything, not just assuming Disney's got this and we are totally safe.

These things happen every day all over the world. They aren't unique to WDW.

You're missing my point. I realize these things happen everywhere.. that's not what I was addressing in my post.

I was just wondering if anyone else was having reservations about going to Disney this summer? Has anyone felt, even for a moment, like me?

...that was the question.

I understand. Yes, my thoughts about our July trip are a bit somber now, mostly about staying safe from terrorists and wildlife. It is a different feeling from how eagerly I anticipated a carefree trip last year.

We're still going, my son doesn't know about these events, and I imagine I'll feel more excited as we get further in time from this bad news and closer to the trip.

No, because this things can happen anywhere.

Disney is my magical happy place. But, I also know it is a real place. Accidents and tragedies happen there just like anywhere else. We will continue to go and hopefully make amazing memories.

I can't begin to imagine the pain that these families experience losing a loved one on vacation.

Do what feels right for you and your family.

Tomorrow is promised to no one, that is very true ((hugging right back))

Thanks for sharing your story FTL (I'm sorry you experienced that). The Disney "bubble"... yes, I think mine might have popped as well (or at least has a serious leak).

No, it hasn't affected me that way at all. Pulse, especially, makes me want to go to Orlando even more. I feel, by going to Orlando and continuing with our plans and spending our vacation dollars there, we are showing support for the community to continue with what is good in life in Orlando. The death of the little boy is absolutely tragic. All of the deaths have been, but we still go and ride the monorail, Mission Space, Primeval Whirl (all attractions where deaths have occurred) and we give thanks that we are alive to enjoy our day. We take what precautions we can and try to move forward.

No. If you stop living your life and doing the things that give you joy then you have given in to something completely beyond your control. Live life to the fullest.

It's not that I'm going to stop living my life, it's just that I'm not feeling the desire to visit Disney this summer. And, as I posted up above, I think it's due to an accumulation of events.

One factor that is different for us is that going to Disney is not a very involved event (not sure if that makes sense). What I mean is, we can leave after breakfast and be there for lunch so we have a more casual relationship with Disney.. so to speak. My daughter was just there this past weekend (same weekend as Pulse) and they'll be back there this weekend.

Hope that all with summer trips can enjoy them despite all of the sadness and tragic events. :goodvibesDisney is a place where we love and are always very happy, but in terms of safety and precaution we regard it as any other place, anything can happen anywhere, so travel "smart" and be aware of your surroundings but ENJOY!:cheer2:::yes::

We leave on Sunday for a week at the Grand Floridian. I have no reservations about going this Summer. Still love Disney. Still excited.

Wonderful to hear :) Have a fabulous vacation!

Admire your spirit... lovely! :)

We have been here since June 6th and leave in 2 days. We were here for the shooting of the Voice singer, the Pulse nightclub massacre, and the tragedy with the little boy and the gator. We were actually standing outside BLT, our resort, watching Wishes on Tuesday night while the initial search was going on. I have had moments during which I've feared the bloom being off the rose, but that really hasn't happened. Life happens, even at WDW. Recently, a LOT has happened in the Orlando area. It's been tragic and sad and scary and confusing...and it's still been magical to be here. My heart aches for all the people that have suffered and continue to suffer, and at the same time it's been amazing to see people coming together.
