Currently booked at BC for 9/5-9/11.
I am thinking of switching to Poly:)

I did a split stay between Beach Club and Poly the same time of year last year, and I thought the Poly was the better choice of the two. Poly felt much more relaxing overall. The splash pad area for toddlers is great, your two year old will love it! Obviously BEach club has an amazing pool, but we found that with little ones we basically stayed in the sandy area, much of the pool is very deep. The quick service at Beach club is not very good. But you have a lot more options a walk away. I think the QS at Poly is very good. The rooms at Beach club were just renovated, but the Poly rooms are bigger. Poly has their sinks inside the bath instead of outside the toilet area, and while some think this is a negative, I like the set up better. This year we booked the whole stay at the Poly, but I wouldnt rule out going back to Beach club, especially for an adults only type trip.

If no one answers sooner, I'll post next weekend if there's any scaffolding.

Question about transportation from the Poly. If I want to be at MK for RD will the resort launch or the monorail get me there on time? In different locations I've see that they start running either 45 mins or half an hour before park open which doesn't seem like enough time to me with the enhanced screening and bag check. Also, any suggestions on who to ask about the monorail? It looks like it might still be on modified service (although I'm not seeing that officially) and I've seen posts suggesting that resort CMs often don't know and will give you incorrect info. Where does one go to get accurate day by day monorail schedule info?
For RD, yes. It's the PPO ADRs that can get tricky sometimes....

Hello all! New to posting on DIS Boards, but I have been stalking and using all the great info for many, many years(thanks so much:)!!
My situation is this:
Currently booked at BC for 9/5-9/11.
I am thinking of switching to Poly:)
I do not know why. We have never stayed there.
Should I switch?
We are a party of 4, possibly 5. Myself, DH, DS(9), DD(2), and possibly DD(16).
I would like to hear opinions about the pool, rooms, room locations, transportation, and quick service at Poly.
TIA!!

We love both resorts, so we usually rotate each trip :). I can give a few thoughts on each of your questions.

We are not a family that goes to our resort QS very often, but when we do, we like both BC and Poly (they are nothing like the big food courts at moderates/values, though). When wanting QS at BC, there's a breakfast sandwich I usually get and for lunch/dinner we all like the pizza flatbread and salads. It does not have a large seating section. The nice thing about BC is they have Beaches & Cream (50's type diner atmosphere) where you can get fast-food but in a table service setting. They have great ice cream treats there too. Poly QS has some more unique food options and a much larger seating section with tables inside and also right outside.

As far as rooms, if you have the 5th person going, then I'd say Poly would work better for you given the guarantee of the 3rd bed and the more spacious room. If you didn't get the 3rd bed at BC, they'd provide a cot, but we had a hard time fitting it comfortably in our room....we had to rearrange furniture and we ended up not being able to easily get out on our balcony.

We love both pool areas. Your family would be pretty spread out at BC's pool -- your 2 year old will love the shallow sandy-bottom area, but your 9 year old would probably want to be in the other area. Overall, BC has arguably the best pool in Disney, but it can be challenging for a larger family to all stay together. Poly's main pool is more compact and easier to all stay together -- also, Poly's new "quiet" pool is open again and it looks like a big notch better than a normal quiet pool.

If you plan to frequent MK park, then Poly is really the better choice in that regard too. Monorail or boat ride away...and you can see the Castle and Wishes right from the Poly beach, pool, and other areas of the resort. However, if you will frequent Epcot and HS, then BC is the better choice as both are just a walk away. There's also a lot of fun on the boardwalk with the surrey bike rentals, walk to mini golf, Espn Club.....

Sorry if you've stayed at BC before and already knew all that. It's hard for me to talk about Poly w/o comparing the 2 of them!
:)

I understand that tikiman is no longer providing contruction information, but can somebody please tell me which longhouse(s) currently have scaffolding?
TIA

The work on the bases of the supports does not require scaffolding. The photos of Tuvalu with the scaffolding was last year and was work being done to the exterior of the longhouse. The work to the bases of the supports I posted photos of from the end of last year and the beginning of this year is only disruptive to the ground floor. They are cutting off the bottoms of the supports and replacing them with cement so they will not rot from sitting in the moisture.

Thanks for the information! Do you happen to know what building they are working on now?

There were rumors and accusations at one time but I'm not sure...

Is it possible to rent cabanas at either of the Polynesian pools? Last I heard there are NOT cabanas on the main pool but they were going to put some in for the Oasis pool?

There are cabanas at the Oasis pool--first come first served at this point. Presently there are no cabanas for rent at Polynesian.

Getting close to finally coming back home! 16 days until we leave! For those of you who have done online check-in, have you received a text notifying you that your room was ready? I've done online check-in before at other resorts, and have been told I would receive a text, but never have. Of course, we will go to the online check-in desk to see if by some chance our room is actually ready. But I wasn't sure how many people have actually had success in receiving a text. :)

Yup we did online check in at both the Yacht Club and Polynesian last week. Got a text our room was ready around 12:30 pm from the Yacht Club and around 1:30 pm for the Polynesian. Both texts contained room and floor number, and a resort map.

When we were there last November, the monorail was on a modified schedule and did not start running until 8:30, but the boats started much earlier than that. Going to MK, I actually prefer the boat because you then don't have to walk down that long ramp first thing in the morning to get into MK.

At Poly now. Monorail is sporadic. Took bus to Epcot for early res but now working, but not express from MK to TTC. For those with limited mobility, only difficult ride at MK Pirates of Carib.

We have booked our first stay at the Polynesian and I am so excited!! We will be there July 27-30, 2016 with a split stay at Shades of Green first. This trip will be more relaxed with more pool time and sleeping in so we should be able to enjoy the resort. July cannot get here fast enough.

We also have had success each time!
I think it's linked so when you check in at the Magical Express a text is sent. Sometimes are room was ready, sometimes it wasn't. However now that I think about it I did use it one time and it was going to be a late arrival (like 10 or 11 pm) and I got a text while at work that are room was ready. Worst feeling in the world! We normally arrive on the first flight.

Ok so I am late to this topic, the monorail is down? I thought I read about this last year? It Still down?
