Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB RESORTS Information & Questions

Yes! I was so excited to get Mickey waffles and bacon from the lobby after the Dark Side 1/2 a week ago. It was our first stay there, I didn't know it was new or if I just hadn't researched enough (ha!). It was two of the small Mickey waffles with two pieces of bacon. So pretty much like the kids meal that I usually get at Capt. Cooks, but for a few dollars more. My husband got "some kind of breakfast burrito thingy." The food was good, the coffee wasn't great. It was really really slow service. But sitting in the room eating Mickey waffles before I took my post-run nap was fabulous.

Learn something new every day... for years I thought the dark side was Universal Parks. By this post I'm learning it's the YC? What's the back story?

The inaugural Star Wars Dark Side 1/2 Marathon was last weekend :) so the Disney-owned Dark Side was on full display for the races.

It gets confusing...

Yes, Universal is "The Dark Side" or "The Theme Park Which Must Not Be Named"

But as you can see in my ticker, and may have noticed in other posts, it is a long-standing, private joke here on the thread to call the Yacht Club "The Darkside"

I think it may have started with a regular Beach Club themed greeter who would jokingly use this name when working there, referring to darker wood in the décor and to the less lively lobby. Also, the YC is closer to HS than the BC is.

Not to be confused with the Dark Side 1/2 Marathon reference above, which is the way I read that post at first, too.

Worst kept secret on the DIS- Free Dining has been released to general public. There was no advanced opportunity for Disney Visa cardholders to book this offer early.

Walt Disney World's Free Dining Offer will be available to guests for select dates in late August, September, October, November, AND December!

Free Dining is being offered to guests ARRIVING during the dates listed below. A minimum stay of 3 nights is required and your package may not be booked for longer than 14 nights.

August 23 – October 1, 2016
November 15 – November 21, 2016
November 26 – November 28, 2016
December 10 – December 21, 2016

You must book by July 8th to get the offer.

This is not always the best discount for staying at the Beach or Yacht Club, but if you don't have any other discount and these are your dates, it doesn't hurt to check it out. Not sure about availability, although I was checking Caribbean Beach for a friend and there was nothing that helped her.

:welcome: to the thread and THANK YOU so much for confirming the info about the waffles!

:thumbsup2

If the person that confirms with Ale and Compass could also ask if they can make Gluten Free waffles, that would be greatly sppreciated!

That was going to be my next question, once we determined that the YC Mickey waffles do indeed exist.

Hey, thanks everyone for answering questions so promptly while I was away last week. Working this morning to catch up. You are all what makes this thread so special!

:grouphug:

Page 465-466

I'm already on there, but we'll specifically be there May 6-12. Forgot to add that originally! :)

Got it! Thanks!

Checked in to the Yacht Club yesterday. Great resort. The room is in fine condition and we have an awesome view from the room #3157. Watched Illuminations from our balcony and was able to catch the higher shots from HS. Got here at 8am yesterday and they texted us the room was ready at about Noon when we were having lunch at the Tangierine Cafe. Off to Garden Grill for an 8am with Chip and Dale. Will try and post pictures of the fireworks from the room later. Here for today then checking into the Poly tomorrow. Thanks to all who contribute on this thread!

:welcome: to posting on the thread!

So glad to hear you enjoyed your YC stay. I haven't made further in the thread to see if you posted photos, but I look forward to seeing some pictures.

Tangierine Café is one of my favorites!

:goodvibes

I have a question about the Sandcastle Club. I thought I read somewhere that you can check it out during the day. But now I am only seeing night hours. Has anyone ever been there during the day? Or am I confusing it with something else?
Thanks!

:welcome:

I think someone replied while I was away with the hours of the open house during the day. If I am mistaken, I'll check that out for you.

Had a dream about our Disney trip yesterday and didn't want to wake up! My son has been using our dwindling supply of disney soap/shampoo so we are definitely getting in the mouse mood!!!

I know, I know!!! I need to edit in "Disney"

Hey! Just wondering if there are any pics of the new YC rooms after the refurb. Thinking about booking in November to celebrate my 40th birthday and 10 year anniversary. I was lucky enough to spend my sweet 16 there- and would love to come full circle! :)

:welcome:

Please let us know if you book a trip to the YC. As others have mentioned, the YC rooms have not been refurbished yet. The resort has not announced dates, it could very well be next fall.

I have to share... This morning, I checked Free Dinng and had the option to switch to CSR to save a good amount of $... But I did not.

You did such a great job on this thread that we now really want to try the Beach Club.
:thanks:
DH and DDs are on board and excited :mickeyjumabout our choices for this trip:
DD8: Mom are we going to the hotel with the pool with all the islands?
Me: Yes, but no meeting Mickey during our meal, ok?
DD8: As long as I can have a churros for breakfast, I don't care. I prefer the nice hotel.
:cheer2:

And that is before even drinking the Koolaid, aka The Sunken Treasure.

Glad you decided to stick around!

The pool is phenomenal and the location is da bomb! You will be blown away by the walk to EPCOT.

According to the Ale & Compass menu listed on the Disney website, MICKEY WAFFLES (with bacon) are now available for breakfast in the Yacht Club lobby:

I didn't see mention of this here yet, and I thought the Beaches & Cream fans might be interested...

This may have been answered somewhere that I missed, so hope I'm not repeating

We have a BCV studio rented for January. It's my DH and our two tween daughters. In the remodel of the BCV studios, will there be a murphy bed added like I think I saw is available at Boardwalk? My girls hate to share a bed, so it would be nice if that was an option. I seem to remember hearing or seeing about that being available in the remodel but now can't seem to find it.

I believe so, but we haven't actually seen pictures yet. We had someone with a studio stay last week and I am hoping to get some pictures soon.

As always, we will try to keep an eye out for you. Anyone seeing that FP is posted for Frozen (Ride and or Princess meet and greet) or the new Soarin ride please feel free to post o this list and also Private Message helenb from the Dis Boards mailbox feature.

Disney continues to rain on my parade with all the price gouging. Here is a link to yet another article discussing the reasons for the shift in focus from the park experience to a profit oriented focus as evidenced in the domestic Disney Parks. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/disney-shakeup-cost-cutters-gaining-090000488.html#

Here is an idea of some of the prices from the THIRD Disney Dining price increase in a few weeks:
  • Regular Fountain Drink is now $3.29, up from $2.99.
  • Large Fountain Drink is now $3.69, up from $3.29.
  • Apple Juice is now $3.29, up from $2.79.
  • Orange Juice is now $4.29, up from $3.99.
  • Chocolate milk is now $2.69, up from $1.99.
  • Low-fat milk is now $2.69, up from $1.99.
  • Dasani Bottled Water is now $3, up from $2.75.
This is just to give some of you an idea of how much you will be paying for just these items. Food prices are very high as well and cheaper quality ingredients have been intentionally substituted in recent weeks to make room for additional profit. Multiply this by the number of people in your family and you can see how expensive just the above reference items in a quick service meal have become.

As I have said before I really like taking an UBER car ride to Walmart where I can get just about anything I need (except Matthew McConaughey) to try and save money on my trip. Matthew is going to have to start making even more movies and car commercials where he goes out to eat with dogs if I am to continue to afford these Disney trips. I know one thing for sure, he isn't taking those dogs to eat at a Disney park... it's too expensive!

~NM

Does anyone know if the prices of the items in the Beach Club Marketplace have gone up too?

I have a price listing/order form that DVC members can use to order things prior to their stay posted in the Marketplace post. I saw this morning that dansdad posted on another thread that a case of water was $6.69 at another resort, so I suspect that is what you will pay at the Marketplace now (up from $6.39 when I checked in Januray 201

I sure am having issues posting today, you would think my coffee would have kicked in by now ;)

Two things....one is that I need to come off of the BOG list for July, my TA was able to get me at BWI for all 8 nights yesterday!!!

I hope it's cool that I still hang out here since I love you guys :grouphug: AND I'll be there in December!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fortunately, Dee knows she needs a pencil for me :)

And next thing! DOUBLE DIGITS!!!!!!!!!!! 99 days :)

:sad2:

Totally understandable my friend. Love you!

I've read the first few pages of this thread and a bunch of other sites, but still am not sure: which floors have "full" balconies? Just 1st and 2nd? Are the first floor patios classified as "balconies" during room assignment? Thanks!

I think, but not positive, that the patios are considered to be "full balconies" when the room assigners are making placements. If you are making a request, perhaps "Full balcony, not first floor, please" or "Full balcony, please. Not patio"

I tried for Beach Club, but it was booked so we are now doing Yacht Club - Club Level. Anyone care to share their thoughts on Yacht Club's Club Level?

page 470-471

had a great stay at BCV and now we are home!!! not sure where we will stay next april yet, but glad we tried the studios at BCV.

I'm glad to hear you had a great stay!

Did you have a Murphy Bed?

Any chance you have any pictures you can share? Either by posting or you can email them to me at beachclubdee at yahoo

Any other comments about the room?

:thumbsup2

We are planning a trip in February 2016. We stayed at the BC several years ago and the kids loved the pool. Are there other activities in the resort to keep a 6, 11 and 16 YO busy if it is too cold to swim?

:welcome:

Have you booked the upcoming trip or are you still deciding on resorts?

:cool2:

A few things that come to mind and they do have a price tag are the Lafferty Place Arcade, which is located next to Beaches and Cream. Also, Fantasia Miniature Golf is about a 10 - 15 minute walk, located across the street from S&D resorts accessible by heading along Crescent Lake towards S&D, walk by the Swan and the pathway will take you toward your location. Surrey bike and standard bike rentals are also an option.
There is also a ping pong table by stormalong bay and BCVs has 2 pool tables.

Great suggestions!

In the evening, there is the campfire on some nights and the nightly movie either on the beach or in the Solarium.

Hi all! I'm at the Yacht Club right now and having a fantastic time (I love this hotel; tempted to buy into DVC... but that's another post).

Question though -- Where the heck can I buy a (soft) drink after 11pm? As far as I'm aware there are no vending machines; and the gift shop next to the lobby closes at 11pm. I find it strange that I can't find anywhere to buy bottled water and/or other drinks beyond 11pm. I can't be the only one, surely?

Suggestions would be much appreciated!

This was a great post, I hope you got some helpful suggestions.

I'm not much of a soda drinker so I have never thought about or noticed the location of (any) vending machines at the resort.

Hey folks:

I believe someone mentioned beverage vending machines in the the laundry room(s). All of them?

What time does Fitting & Fairings at the Yacht Club close?

Are you able to go to one of the lounges and get a soft drink to go?

Any other suggestions other than stocking up your fridge?

:drinking1

Hi it was me that posted about the vending machines in the laundry room. They definitely had them in the small laundry room on the yacht club near the exit to the quiet pool. Don't think they have them in the larger laundry rooms :)

Not sure if you are aware but you can meet Mickey at breakfast at Cape May though I love your daughter's suggestion of churros:) :)

Tell Mr. NateBenMa that Ninja Mom is coming for him. I will be able to win him over with a zip lock bag filled with purloined Pretzel rolls and a complimentary pool noodle.

He'll be wearing a flowered bathing cap and working on his synchronized Pool tube routine before he even realizes what he is doing.

Resistance is futile, he will be assimilated. Mwa, ha, ha!

YIKES!!!

Reporting live from the BC and having a great time! One slightly random question, are there usually no clocks in the room? I really thought there was an alarm clock in here (like all other hotels). I hate having to look at my phone to know what time it is. Especially in the morning because I should be going back to sleep but I see I have notifications and I can't resist the urge to check them!

Thanks for reporting, and for reminding me about the clocks. I am not particularly happy about the clocks being removed. I have heard Disney is justifying it by saying most people use their phones as a clock/alarm. I don't! For the people who use their phones as a timing device, fine. They don't have to use the clock. But I suspect there are a lot of people who still want a clock in their room.

:confused3

I believe they removed clocks a few months ago to free up outlets for electronics. But you can request one from mouse keeping :)

Thanks! I will be doing that!

::yes::

I was told last October that most folks use their phones now. I said I have never set alarm on my phone. I did have travel alarm with me.

Same here! I'm afraid Cortana sle!

:rotfl2:

We are doing our first stay at Yacht Club in June and bringing our nephew for his first visit, which is causing all kinds of re-working our plans since he was a late add.

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1.

:cool1:

Just booked my September trip at Yacht Club! So excited to be back in the Epcot resorts area! :lovestruc

:welcome: back!!!

I'll add you to the list.

:woohoo:

Our dates are confirmed-YC 8th July-29th July...thats 3 weeks....we're beyond excited:teeth:
:teeth: Can you update Be Our Guest thank you:)

:welcome: back!!!

Absolutely!!!

:banana::banana::banana:

Can this be used as part of the DDP?

I believe that the items available at the Ale & Compass are eligible for purchase with the dining plan.

:thumbsup2

I got a WDW Yacht Club email survey today. Do they really read them? Do they ever respond personally to them?
Thanks much for thoughts or experiences with this.

I have always been told that Disney really does review the feedback from the surveys and from letters that are sent in through Guest Services or resort management. I have heard of many people who were contacted by someone at Disney after making comments.

Resort-specific merchandise and the return of take-out menu items at Beaches & Cream are two of the things that guests made comments about, and changes took place. Hopefully a shower/changing room at SAB will be another change stemming from guest comments.

I tried for Beach Club, but it was booked so we are now doing Yacht Club - Club Level. Anyone care to share their thoughts on Yacht Club's Club Level?

:welcome:

When is your trip?

I have stayed BC CL (not since the refurbishment and enlargement), but my first YC CL will be in October.

1) The YC lounge has recently been renovated as well. The rooms at BC have been refurbed- the work on the Yacht Club rooms has not started and the resort has not announced a start date.
2) Food offerings and management are the same in the two lounges
3) All rooms at the YC CL (except for one in the WV category) have full balconies. Around 75% of the BC rooms have full balconies.
