Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

We stayed in a preferred room about 5 years ago. I'm guessing Pop hasn't had a refurb since then, right? Thinking of booking there again for June and it doesn't matter about the refurb, just curious. I am wondering how often king room requests are honored. Ideas?

I am curious about this too. I originally booked preferred pool view at POP and it said it would either be 2 double beds or a king bed room. I read some posts saying that it's hard to get one of the king rooms. That lead me to book a king room at CBR. I currently hold both reservations and need to choose between them soon. If I know there is a good shot at getting the king at POP, I'm going to keep POP. It's just hubby and me.

We checked in yesterday and also did not receive any of our requests. I had requested connecting/adjoining rooms over the phone. I added ground floor and close to transportation during online check in. We received the room texts so far apart. One was ready at 10:30 in 50's building 3 on the 3rd floor. The other text came in around 4:30 for 80's building 7 on the 4th floor. We have a standard pool view booked. I went to the front desk and they were at least able to move us both to the 80's building with rooms two doors apart. Both of the rooms have connecting doors so I am hoping they will be able to move one of us.

I'm glad that they were able to move you closer together! This worries me for our Christmas trip. We have 4 rooms then, and I know it's going to be packed. We will survive if we are not connecting or adjoining, but I'm really hoping we aren't spread out all over the resort. We will make it work, though, even so. We are just so excited to go! Thanks for the report, and I'm happy to hear that they helped you, and hope it works for you to have connecting rooms eventually. I hope you enjoy your stay and have a great time! I would love to hear what you think of the 80's and 90's section.

I don't think we are going to make any other requests besides our request to have one connecting set of rooms and the others adjoining. I wonder if it throws off the original request to add one during online check-in. We really love the look of the 50's, 60's, and 70's, but not so much the 80's and 90's. Maybe someone can pump me up for the 80's and 90's. It's our first time going to POP so we are just basing it on pictures and our own personal likes.

Thanks Disneylover99. It does look like the bedding has changed a bit. I've enjoyed the mods we've stayed at but enjoyed Pop so much, as it was where I stayed with just my kids after my divorce. It was a special trip. They love the waterparks too, so staying at a value is the only way we can do it. Any trip to Disney World is a great trip! The king bed wont be an issue if my son comes with us now too.

Hi everyone,
Just booked first disney vacuum and staying at POP!
I couldn't find any info but if I want to bring food back from the food court to room for the family (i.e. hot breakfast etc) do they provide trays etc?

Thank you!

I read at the beginning of the thread that towels are not provided by the pools correct? I was planning on maybe taking a swim if our room wasnt ready on our arrival day and was going to put our suits in our airplane bag but will I have to put towels in there as well or is there somewhere I can go to receive a couple? Thanks!

We just go to the front desk and ask for some. Or if there is a maid cart nearby, we ask for some towels.

We use room towels at the pool? just checking. and if so, do we take them back to the room or is there a towel bin to leave them in at the pool?

Yes. I always stop by the front desk or ask the maid for extra towels for the pool. There are towel bins by the pool to get rid of your wet towels.

Checking into Pop very soon! :) Does anyone know if you can buy a refillable mug without the refills? I'm guessing not. Me and DH get the mug with our dining plan but I know our 2 year old is going to want her own mug after seeing us with one.

Does the gift shop sell coffee mugs that look similar? We could just keep hers filled with water or juice and not have to deal with any terrible two tantrums. TIA!

They sell souvenir cups at some vendors in the parks that look exactly like the mugs, just a different design. I think they were around $6? It comes with a soda. Still a lot cheaper than the refill mugs though!

I think part of the problem is that there aren't a lot of rooms that are standard pool view. The 60s section has no standard pool view (only preferred), and the 70s has no pool, so the 50s and the 80s/90s are the only sections with standard pool view. On top of that, not all of the wings in those sections are pool view.

They probably still should have been able to find you at least one or two of your requests, but I've also noticed that POP is extremely crowded these past two weeks. It's a mob scene. Bus stops are packed to the gills at park closing time. POP and AoA have both been the most crowded stops by an very wide margin. So I think getting requests filled right now is extremely difficult, as the resort is operating near capacity.

I think that the best thing to do for getting your requests is to limit them. I've found that most of the time the people who don't get any of their requests have requested 3 or more things. Requesting 2 things seems to give better results, especially if they're standard rooms. Also, booking pool view, preferred, or pool preferred is, in a way, already a type of room request, as those are all more limited in quantity than standard rooms.

Just to confirm, the refillable mug is sold at only one price (mug + refills), which I think is currently $16.49 plus tax. (EDIT: It's now $16.99 plus tax.)

Unless I've missed something, the last major room refurb project at Pop was during 2010. Like all/most Disney resorts, since that time the bedding soft goods have been switched from bedspreads to sheets and a themed throw. And as mentioned above, the room conditions should still be good. In my experience, the building 1 room I had this July was in very good shape.

This will be our first time staying at POP, I see it has a mini frig. Is there a coffee pot in the room? If not can we bring our own? Can you request a microwave? Does the food court have a toaster I can use if I bring my own bagel (not being cheap just want to eat the brand I like)
Also is the 50's building closest to the food and buses?

No coffee pot. People bring their own all the time.

Can you request a microwave?

They don't have any available. There are a couple in the food court for all guests to use.

Does the food court have a toaster I can use if I bring my own bagel (not being cheap just want to eat the brand I like)

Yup!

Also is the 50's building closest to the food and buses?

IMHO, building #1 in the 50's is equidistant to the buses as building #10 in the 70s.

Which building is the closest? My husband would like the 50's theming but it is more important to be close to the buses and food courst.

In my opinion building #1 in the 50's and building #10 in the 70's are equidistant to the buses and food court.

:welcome:
No microwaves and no coffee pots in the room. You are welcome to bring a small coffee pot and there are microwaves and toasters at the POP food court.

All preferred rooms and preferred pool rooms are going to get you closest to food and buses.
Here is a map with the room categories highlighted that gives you an idea of what area's would be best for your family.

To answer your question about the 50's buildings. There are 3 buildings in the 50's. The preferred rooms ing building 1 or 3 are goingnareThe ends of building 1 and 3 that are standard pool view and building 2 can be a pretty long hike to food and buses.

If your most important requests are close to food and buses, it would be your best bet to book preferred or preferred pool. If you are already booked standard or standard pool, IMHO, I would check close to transportation during on-line check in and that will allow the room assigner find you the closest room in your room category to transportation.

Have a great trip!
