DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Stopping by a bit late today - where is everyone? Past the mid point so you guys must be out having a cold one, and didn't invite me?
Had a bit of a nerve wracking a.m. as DD had a test tied to dosage measurements / solids to liquids, etc today and if she did not get a 90 or better she would not be able to continue with the Nursing program this semester. This was not just her but the whole class of 35, and classes just started this Monday - talk about a pressure cooker. She passed and all is well but thinking about those that did not - have 48 hours to try and get into non-nursing classes this semester and hope to be able to get re-accepted into Nursing program next semester bringing total semesters to 9 instead of 8 required or change majors.............. Bit much for 20 year olds to have to deal with. DD was wound pretty tight about what ifs and way more on the edge than I had ever seen here. Lots of coaching by the 'ole man here with her over the past few days about confidence & focus and hopefully that helped her some. Again, gotta feel for the kids that may not have made that score and had their plans thrown a bit out the window.
Have not tried Tusker House in ages. How did you like it when you are there?
Tusker is now our family favorite buffet for breakfast, for whatever that's worth. Plus the Dawa Bar just outside Tusker has specialty bloddy marys in the a.m.

We really enjoyed it. Got our ADR for about 30min before park opening. It is the only character breakfast we have ever done so I don't have a lot to compare to but everything we had was good. They brought me a carafe of real coffee and a carafe of the Jungle Juice that is really good. Don't know how you could complain about a hot carving station and unlimited bacon. I got my $40 worth out of it.
Will have to upload the pictures when I get home.

Congrats to the DD for passing the stress test to kick off the new semester.

Been busy running around getting last minute stuff etc done before we leave on Friday.

Holy crap! Tough one.
Congrats to your DD on passing, though.
How many didn't?

Finally unpacked the Mickey dishes find an ended up having more than I expected. The new found loot...

Six pasta plates, six dinner plates, six bowls, six bread plates, four espresso cups and saucers, and a Parmagiano cheese dispenser. Got a good deal too. Price tags were still on some of them retail vs. clearence price - bowls $12/&3.99, plates $12/$4.99 pasta plates $18/$8.99. These suckers are at least fifteen years old. Other than four plates we already had out, the others I totally forgot about. Good find.

Congratulations to you daughter on passing. I feel your pain and my daughter feels your daughters pain. Thanks for the revue. As an aside, I am well acquainted with the Darwa Bar although I have not tried the Bloddy Marys. Good?

The only thing holding me back is I do not eat enough at one sitting to justify the price. But I am thinking about trying it out.

Also found a bag of stuff containing birthday presents for DD from her mom. She would often buy things ahead of time and squrirrel them away to be given out later. Included was a birthday card.

Got a little dusty here reading that...

I don't know how I missed this.
OMG. That's just... just... I don't know what to say.
It's both one of the most amazing things I've ever read and one of the most heartbreaking.

aka: ebay here I come?

Happy Wednesday. This is such a long week, and can't wait until Friday.

Have not tried Tusker House in ages. How did you like it when you are there?

We enjoyed it. The food was hot, fresh, and the juice was really good. It may be a bit loud inside, but it is one of the better character breakfasts.

m.

I'm here, but I guess that's not good enough for you. :lmao:

Congrats to dd and way to coach her through.

Maybe if you keep looking, you'll find me a room to live in for free?

Not sure I will have time to post before I leave on the cruise, don't think I will be able to get on here. So if anyone new shows up let them know I will add them when I get back in a week. Oh, and if you close out the thread, you're on your own. :lmao:

They have internet down there you know!

Have a great trip.

I don't know the circumstances CJ but I imagine that would be a bit emotional regardless. I hope it brought you some good memories.

Congrats to you DD, that would be nerve wracking.

Going to be another scorcher here today but I get to spend it on the golf course. We have a local company that operates a fundraising tournament for a charity we run called KidSport. This year they invited us to play and work so I pulled rank and said I would do the playing part.

Wow. I don't have any words for that.

She passed and all is well

That's quite the collection there. Whenever I hunt through the basement I just find crap I should have thrown out.

Have fun storming the Caribbean!

A bad day of golf beats a good day in the office.

Top O the Morning Dads! Things with company restructuring / alignment of activities continues to suck the life out of me. Lots, and I mean lots of head scratching things on the activities we are taking over. Hey, it's putting the kids through school and supporting or Disney / Star Wars hobbies :)

I know why I missed this part earlier, making my "allergies" act up. Very touching.

Thanks gents. Her passing saved me, or the University, from a "discussion" on why this type of exam and consequence would be at the beginning of the semester and not the end of last semester? Not sure about numbers that did not make it, was just focused on DD getting through it.

CJ the bloody's at Dawa are great, I really enjoy both the Discovery Island & Dawa recipes

Enjoy and wish we were going too. Not sure which sailing you are doing but when in port, restaurants like Margaritville and even some of the local dining places in Cozumel have free wi-fi and it was pretty good speeds.

That… would be a tough moment.
Difficult indeed.

A final exam during the first week?
That seems incorrectly scheduled.
Glad she made the cut, but wow…

From a couple of plates to an entire service; quite the score there.

Have a blast sir. Where y’all headed off to?

As for closing down the thread…
Just have another drink on us. I don’t see that one happening.

I hate it when my employer forces me to play golf.

No I don’t… that never happens.
Glad to hear that it happens to someone though.
Enjoy the day.

aka: ebay here I come?

It was a bit spooky finding the gifts from her mom. It did bring a smile to both of us.

I looked for the plates on eBay but couldn't find any listed. I think we are just going to keep them. The pasta bowls will come in handy but we have a ton of dishware in our house. Her mom has an expensive set of china, there is a full Christmas set, our everyday stuff and the ones I had in New York. Maybe I should open up a store.

Have a blast with your better half. We will try to keep the place in order but no promises.

I don't know the circumstances CJ but I imagine that would be a bit emotional regardless. I hope it brought you some good memories.

She lost her mom when she was 13. It was a rough period but we got through it together. Also found a bunch of pictures that we haven't gone through yet but I am sure they will bring back a flood of memories.

Really tough but I guess someone has to do it. How did you play?

Wow. I don't have any words for that...

Thanks Mark. One of the things that helped me get through it was the support people on the Dis gave when it happened. At the time I was in the middle of the Sweet 16 TR and the outpouring there and here was a comfort.

And there was a lot of chaff with the few kernels of wheat that I found clearing things out. Two huge garbage cans of trash, one full recycle bin and a few bags of stuff to be donated. We take on the attic tomorrow, a task I am not looking forward to.

But but but... its bacon!!!!

Good point.
