The Dark Side, DVC Stay, Hoop Dee Doo & More-APRIL 2015 Trip Report***Completed 8/23***

Day 8-April 16, 2015
Part 1
Soarin'

We have an odd, fickle relationship with EPCOT. Sometimes we cannot get enough and make 2-3 trips there, and sometimes (like this year), we are less than thrilled with it. I don't know if it's the timing of our EPCOT day, or the fact that we can only get one FP for either Soarin' OR Test Track, when in past years, we would get multiple FP for Soarin' AND at least one for Test Track. I suspect it's a little bit of both of those things PLUS the new-found love for SOTMK, but this year, we ended up spending just half a day there. I will say that EPCOT is so beautiful in April with the Flower and Garden festival going on. I would recommend going if you've never seen it before.

Our day started with an early morning ride on the monorail…
IMG_9989.jpg

We got there right at rope drop and headed to our favorite ride, Soarin', with the plan to ride this first and early and get a FP for it later in the day to ride again, which actually worked out pretty well so we were able to sneak in two rides.
IMG_9991.jpg

If what the rumors say are true and they are, in fact, making a new Soarin' movie, I hope they ask Patrick Warburton to do the new pre-ride video as well…he's a hoot!
IMG_9992.jpg

The kids wanted to go on TT after Soarin' and we knew we'd have to head over quickly because we didn't have a FP for it and the lines would be too long later. We left DM in The Land and the kids and I ran over. DM stayed there and went on Living With The Land…a ride that I really enjoy but ended up not going on because of the way we had to run out of there.

Anyway, the line for TT was about 30 minutes, so we decided to wait...
IMG_9993.jpg

We went through the regular line so we could build the car. Trying to get DS and DD to agree on a car was next to impossible…ugh. But they finally agreed…IMG_9994.jpg
IMG_0001.jpg IMG_0002.jpg IMG_0002.jpg

I could car less about the car-building process. I guess it's a good way to pass the time in line, but I could totally do without it. TT isn't really my favorite ride anyway, I could take it or leave it, but the kids insist on it so we have to go every trip.

After TT we went over to Mission Space. DS wanted to do the orange side, but DD and I both said, "no way!!" He reluctantly agreed to do the green side. This was one ride that we ended up getting very frustrated on. The posted wait was 20 minutes. We waited at LEAST 45-50 minutes. They let SOOOOOO many FP people in in front of us in the stand-by line. I was very close to walking out, but after waiting 30, 35, 40 minutes, I told myself that we might as well keep waiting, But it was totally annoying, not to mention the fact that we had left my poor DM and never dreamed we would take this long. By the time we met up with her again, a good hour and a half had gone by.
IMG_0003.jpg

I was happy to leave Future World and head to the World Showcase and look at some of the beautiful Flowers and Topiaries...

Part 2
Flowers and Gardens

I don't know about anyone else, but my kids just LOVE walking around looking at flowers…:rolleyes2
Not really, but they didn't complain too much...

IMG_0004.jpg

They kind of liked the Butterfly Garden...
IMG_0005.jpg

and we all thought the chrysalis was pretty cool.
IMG_0006.jpg

This sight just takes my breath away…these flowers were just amazing.
IMG_0008.jpg

The view and DM from the other side...
IMG_0010.jpg

Pretty sure DS is struggling to keep his eyes open in the blazing sun!
IMG_0015.jpg

IMG_0019.jpg

Looks like DM is getting her head bitten off…EEK!
IMG_0021.jpg

No flowers, but this is my favorite little shop in EPCOT :lovestruc

Day 8-April 16, 2015
Part 3
More Flowers and Gardens

Mom and I went to our favorite lunch spot in France, Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie. they have the best sandwiches on the BEST bread, and the blue wedge salad is to die for! DM and I split the sandwich and salad, and some yummy chocolate mousses thing for dessert.
IMG_0030.jpg

Both kids kind of looked at the menu and couldn't find anything they'd want to eat in there (Crazy! I know!!). We sent them, with their charging privileges on their magic bands, over to the American Pavilion for burgers and chicken nuggets…o_O. We walked over to meet them after we finished eating. Yet again, I didn't get any food pictures, but I did get this pic of the kids in from of our Connecticut flag…go Huskies!
IMG_0034.jpg

We walked around the WS a little bit, but it was really hot and DS was bugging us to leave and go back to the MK to play more SOTMK. Notice that they are wearing that binder in every pic? They clearly had planned this out well in advance! We took a few more pics, then took the lovely little boat across the lake in EPCOT because we were all pretty hot and tired anyway.
IMG_0039.jpg

IMG_0032.jpg

IMG_0033.jpg

IMG_0044.jpg

IMG_0052.jpg

IMG_0068.jpg

And that concludes the shortest EPCOT day ever!

Next up, more sorcery and some much need relaxation!

Day 8-April 16, 2015
Part 4
Pool, Pizza and Sorcery…

The nice part about leaving EPCOT in the middle of the day is that there was literally NOBODY else on the monorail with us.
IMG_0078.jpg

The kids wanted to go back to the MK and play SOTMK, but DM and I were hot and tired and wanted to lay by the pool. So after switching monorails at the TTC, we dropped the kids off at the MK with their cell phones and we continued on to the CR. I have to say that I am probably the most cautious person you'd ever meet and I kind of surprised myself by allowing them to do this. But they are very responsible kids and they know their way around the MK really well. Plus, I was just a short walk away from them if I needed to go meet them for something. And honestly, this just worked out so great that I would definitely do it again. They got to do what they wanted and we got to do what we wanted…everyone was happy :)

Anyway, DM and I went back to the room to change and the we went to lay by the pool at the CR. We like this pool better because it's bigger and more relaxing to us. The pool at BLT is smaller, more crowded and just seems busier and louder.

DM looks like she was ready to fall asleep...
IMG_0079.jpg

DD called around 4:30 and said she wanted to come to the pool with us so she took the monorail back and DS stayed in the MK. Around 6pm, we went to eat dinner in the Contempo Cafe and had a yummy flatbread pizza and salad…I am noticing that we seem to eat a LOT of pizza at WDW!
IMG_0082.jpg

Don't feel guilty mom, it's vacation, after all! HaHa!
IMG_0083.jpg

Ok…maybe we should feel a little guilty…
IMG_0084.jpg

After dinner, the three of us went back to the MK to meet up with DS. While playing this day, he had met people along the way that gave him tips for SOTMK and gave him extra cards. He now had over 100 cards! This is the kind of thing that is really up his alley, and I don't mind him playing it because he was walking around and interacting with people. I wish we had SOTMK here at home and I would let him play as much as he wanted, instead of the crummy video games! HAHA!

They were so into it...
IMG_0090.jpg

IMG_0093.jpg

IMG_0095.jpg

IMG_0097.jpg

We left the MK around 8, which is something I probably would not have done if we weren't DVC members. Because of this, we were just so much more relaxed than past trips because we know there's another one next year and we don't feel like we need to stay at the parks from open until close.

Tomorrow we will be having dinner with a beast and meeting the girls from Arendelle...

Day 9-April 17, 2015
Part 1
Fishing bust & Frozen fever

Today we had scheduled our FP+ for later in the day so we could pretty much do anything we wanted. We woke up without an alarm and had breakfast in the room, and then DD and DM wanted to just go hang out by the pool and DS wanted to go see about fishing over at Fort Wilderness. So we all walked down and DS and I left DD and DM at the pool while we went to catch the boat to FW.
IMG_0103.jpg

IMG_0108.jpg

The trouble was, we knew almost nothing about FW so we got over there and tried asking people where to go fishing and they told us to take an internal bus and maybe we would find the fishing hole. It was hot and we were confused so DS and I decided to abort our mission and just go to the pool with DD and DM. I have to do more research about the fishing thing before the next trip because it is something that DS loves to do! Anyway, we had a lovely afternoon relaxing by the pool. I took this pic on the way back to the room…
IMG_0098.jpg

And I took this one in April 2013…
ry=480.jpg
DS's feet didn't even touch the ground yet!

We showered and went over to the MK around 3, just in time to catch the 3 o'clock parade…Hi Minnie!
IMG_0112.jpg

The Main Event this day was getting to meet the Frozen girls with a FP…
IMG_0122.jpg

IMG_0124.jpg

IMG_0126.jpg

We aren't hugely into meeting characters, but this is the one meet and greet that DD really wanted to do. Personally, I thought Elsa was a little cold (pun intended), but Anna was super sweet and chatty. She had a lot to say to DD and DD liked her a lot too.

After meeting the girls, we had a bit of time before our Be Our Guest ADR, so we just walked around a bit taking in the sights and the shows. We stopped on the bridge to the left of the castle to watch the Dream Along With Mickey show (I think it's called that??), and it was kind of a neat angle because you could see where all the performers would run behind the stage and they would often look over and wave to us. And if you time it just right, you can get a cool pic of the fireworks from there…
IMG_0132.jpg

We had a FP for Splash Mountain to get to though, so we had to keep on movin' along….HaHa!

To be continued...

THIS is why I love BLT. Because popping into MK is JUST THAT EASY. Last trip DS was begging for a certain kind of balloon but was flat out exhausted. We were on the monorail back from Epcot and I just hopped off at MK and DM took him back to the room. I STILL couldn't find the right balloon but I DID pick him up some treats and his Mickey Ears from the night before. I was back in less than 45 minutes and DS got his nap and was suprised by his goodies when he woke up. I am a BLT fan for lyfe ( But EVERYONE ELSE STAY AWAY BECAUSE IT'S POORLY THEMED AND THE ROOMS ARE WIERD AND THE CMs ARE RUDE JUST LEAVE ALL THOSE GOOD ROOMS FOR @buzzrelly AND ME OOOOOOKKKKAAAAYYY??? )

The lengths we go to for our kids! Your son must've been so excited when he woke up!

Haha! You're right, though! BLT is a terrible, awful place And in the worst possible location! And don't even get me started on the horrendous view of Wishes from the TOTWL!!

Day 9-April 17, 2015
Part 2
Splash…again!!

Just because I KNOW that nobody ever gets tired of seeing us ride Splash Mountain...
HaHa!

But I've also got mid-ride pics…

Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah...
IMG_0135.jpg

Please don't throw me in that Briar Patch!

IMG_0136.jpg

Home, sweet home is the lesson today :-)IMG_0136.jpg
IMG_0137.jpg

Seriously, it's a problem!:P

After we rode, we went in that little gift shop and bought a couple shirts…Look how happy shopping makes dd!
IMG_0133.jpg

Then we were off to get to our Be Our Guest ADR…This lady was so sweet and decided to jump in our pic as soon as DD snapped the pic!

IMG_0141.jpg

We've eaten here before and sat in the Grand Ballroom, so we asked if this time we could sit in the West Wing. They told us the wait would be longer but then they called us in about 5 minutes later. Seeing the rose in there was pretty cool but I'd prefer to actually be able to SEE my food…haha! We all ordered the steak, and honestly, it was okay, but VERY salty. DM and I weren't super crazy about it but DD liked hers a lot.
IMG_0142.jpg

This is the best thing we had there…
IMG_0146.jpg
DD and DS got "The Gray Stuff," and DM and I got the Lemon Meringue cupcakes…very yummy!

Overall, BOG is just an okay dinner for us. I'm sure we will go back because there are not a lot of TS choices in the MK and we spend a lot of time there, plus, DD LOVES it there. I think next time we go, we will ask to sit in here…
IMG_0150.jpg
I don't even know what this area is called, but I didn't even know about it. It's like Belle's room and it's very pretty…and well-lit! We were in a hurry to get to our Space Mountain FP, but we had to meet this guy before we left…

We ran out and made it to Space Mountain in time for our FP.

I was SO excited to find your review! We are planning our first trip to WDW in February, staying in a 1BR BLT villa and taking a side-trip to Universal. Your review couldn't be more perfect!

Do you possibly have a photo of the chair and sofa made into beds? DD (16) will be sleeping on the chair bed and DS (18) on the sofa bed. DD is very curious about what it will look like. :)

:welcome:

Thanks for joining in! Looking back, this was one of my favorite vacations so far. We are real Disney people, but the kids and I loved Universal too! The kids are already asking to go back!

I'm sorry, I do not have a pic of the chair opened up. DM hates messes and closed it up pretty quickly every day! Here's the closest pic I have…
IMG_0310.jpg
You can kind of see the mattress peeking out. From what I hear, both the sofa-bed and chair-bed were very comfortable. At least nobody was complaining!

I have to get back to writing this report. I must have been :crazy2: to think I would actually have MORE time for writing this summer! These two have kept me hopping!

Thanks for following along…be back soon!!:-)

Thanks so much for your quick reply! DD will be glad to hear that they are comfortable.

I really admire the time and effort that you have put into your review. Take all the time that you need. I'll be here! :thanks:

I lost track of this thread but now I am all caught up. We are going to bog for dinner next trip. we have done lunch but not dinner. I am excited. I opted not to get the dining plan. It is only me and 2 of my 3 boys going. dh and oldest are staying home. My youngest is 10 and I wouldn't get my money worth considering I would have to pay the adult rate for him

Thanks! It's actually been a labor of love, since I love looking back on our trip and reliving it through this report :)

:welcome: BACK!!

We like dinner there much better than lunch, It is expensive, but it's cool getting the pic with the Beast after. And that dining plan is totally cost-prohibitive for us now too. DD almost always still orders off the kid's menu. I actually found it very freeing to go without it. But we had the Tables in Wonderland card which saved us a lot of money.

Day 9-April 17, 2015
Part 3
ELP

After Space, DS wanted to do some more SOTMK, so we headed over to Frontierland. After a couple of portals, the MSEP was going by so we stopped to watch. DS and I got a great view in Liberty Square by standing on a little wall. I love this parade and the music…

Day 10-April 18, 2015
Part 1
Plans? What Plans?!

This day wasn't very well planned out by me, which could have been a disaster but instead ended up being really fun!

Our plan was to go back to DHS and spend the morning there, then pool hop to the Boardwalk Pool and relax a bit before going to our ADR at Beaches and Cream. I don't know how I messed this up (6 months ago!), but I missed (or forgot!) that DHS had early morning hours this day. We got there a little before 9 and the park was packed. Oh well, no biggie, I told myself. We headed to TSM as we usually do and oddly enough, the stand-by line wasn't terribly long so we waited, taking our usual pics along the way…

IMG_0187.jpg

IMG_0188.jpg

IMG_0185.jpg

All of a sudden, the CMs started telling people that the ride was having difficulty and they kicked everyone out o_O

DD is either really sad that the ride closed, orrrr her brother was bothering her…
IMG_0193.jpg

He doesn't seem bothered:P
IMG_0191.jpg

Okay, no biggie…

So we went over to the Animation Academy and drew my absolute favorite, which I just now had to take a picture of…
IMG_1114.jpg

Seriously, they NEED to reopen the animation academy. How else can I show off my awesome drawing skills?:rotfl2:

Anyway, our plans didn't really seem to be working out this day, but we walked back over to see if TSM was reopened and ready to use our 10:30 FP, and it was, so we did…
IMG_0204.jpg

IMG_0208.jpg
So everyone was happier...
IMG_0199.jpg

But we still weren't really feeling DHS today and after a little discussion, decided to leave and go over to Typhoon Lagoon. We had our bathing suits on anyway. The only thing we didn't have was towels, but we knew we could rent them there, so we did something totally unheard of in Disney World…we were SPONTANEOUS! Woot!!:cool1::cool1:

Really enjoying reading your trip report, thanks for sharing. It's given me some tips for our trip in December!

Really liked the comparison picture of your kids on the Mickey "seat" I'm going to look though our photos from our last trips and try to do the same !

What does TOTWL stand for ?

Thank you!! December is such a great time to go. I went once and I want to go back someday so DM can see all the beautiful decorations!

TOTWL is Top of the World Lounge, at Bay Lake Tower. DVC members can go up and watch Wishes from there. If I weren't staying at BLT, I wouldn't think it would be worth it to leave the park and watch from there, but since we were staying there, we could watch and then be down and in bed in about 15 minutes :)

oh ok, didn't know such a place existed. We are not DVC members, just renting points. We experienced the start of Christmas in WDW in 2013, but this time will be in full swing, and we will be experiencing, DLR, WDW & a Disney Cruise , all in december, so it sure is a Disney December for us!!

I loved your tip about the late lunch at Tony's for the parade viewing. I am re-jigging some of our days so I can book a late lunch there. Is there a timeslot where you can do something similar for the evening parade?
