Sure signs of not planning

A lot of folks are mentioning no ADRs. I had a co-worker several years who said he had been to WDW many times. He was telling me about his upcoming trip for Spring Break in (at the time) a few weeks. He was really excited because he had purchased the DxDP. He was savvy enough to call it by the correct name. But when I asked him where he had reservations, he said he wasn't making any. I thought to myself, "Those are going to be the most expensive chicken tenders he will ever eat!"

I was looking at old posts this is too funny. Had a similar encounter with a friend. Lol :rotfl2:

Does the security guard that looks like John Candy still work here?

Which way do we go to get to Screaming Mimi?

Where is Marty Moose?
On our first trip to HS last year my husband and mother left with my daughter while I jumped on ToT. As I was leaving the park (my first day on my first trip) I saw a security guard that looked just like John Candy in that movie. I actually went up and spoke with him a bit.

At the end of our last trip I gave 6 remaining beers I got from GG to our next door guest. She was very thankful but then said, "beer and wine are so expensive in the south...who knew". I rolled the eyes and told her to ADR California Grill...maybe beer was cheaper near the park :sad2:

When you see a post from a Facebook friend that says that she is in the car headed to WDW because her hubby has a convention there and she says that she has "free time to go to the park", and you ask her what park(s) she is going to go to, and she says, "WDW". So, you ask, MK, Epcot, HS, or AK?
And she says, "There are four parks?" :scared1: True story.

Standing in line for Dumbo and asking the person next to you where the Magic Kingdom is.

True story.

Everyone has a different way of doing vacations according to what works for their family; however, not doing any research on the place you are going ahead of time is just ridiculous. I do research for every single trip we go on to include finding out popularity, etc. I've gone to Six Flags before and didn't ride anything because I had a short amount of time and everything had a two hour wait. People who expect to go to Disney on either coast and not have to wait in line...sigh. Disney is a theme park so by that fact you should expect everything that is at a normal theme park aka crowds, lines, etc. As most of us on this forum are fans of Disney and go multiple times a year, we understand, as should anyone with common sense, that Disney is not 'just a theme park.' You don't need to time everything down to the minute, make a bunch of ADR's, or even plan your park for the day to have a magical time but I am by not means knocking people that do. For how popular Disney is, or any vacation spot for that matter, not knowing what you're getting yourself into at least is poor planning.

Going through the FP+ line for 7D as someone asked the CM at the scanner where he could get a pass for this ride so he didn't have to wait 90 mins. Buddy, you're 2 months too late :sad2:.

Last week at POR I was chatting with another guest and she said "did you know the buses to the parks are free?" I told her that I did in fact know that and she continued on...."yeah, the Disney buses take you to all the theme parks in Orlando...MK, Epcot, AK, Universal......"

I had a neighbor ask for summer vacation advice and I suggested Disney. He said he has friends who've had amazing trips and friends who said they'd never do it again because it's so awful. So he avoids the whole idea.

I have an idea what the difference is between the level of planning his friends did...

Undo planning with restaurants in different parks with looooooot of walk and fast pass in different zones of the park where is impossible to get in time.

It was me in may and i walk with a cane. Sometimes i was exhausted! But i had my disability pass. I miss my fast pass Times twice a day! I learn too that you need to reserve restaurants and fast pass for the same park each day...

I feel like a dumb lol! The next trip will be better lol!

Bragging to random people at a Chipotle in Jacksonville Fl that you didn't do anything ahead of time because you are going to just buy the "special fastpasses" when you get there. He said he could walk on anything with the "special bracelet".

I didn't correct him. popcorn::

Last December we saw a visitor abuse the CM behind the concierge desk because, 'I have paid a lot o' money to stay ##*@#** here and yet I cannot get in to any ##*@#** theme park or see any ##**@*## ride.' He got quite worked up about it. I was so proud of that CM. She took the abuse calmly, politely and professionally. I would've slugged him. So, it's just as well I'm not a CM! :D

Do your homework, people!

I am guilty of this... first trip as an adult circa 2006. We had no idea how to use fastpasses and thought they cost money? After everyone went back to the room for an afternoon break I went down to the concierge and had them explain how they worked. Also on that trip they had offered free dinning when we there, nope we paid for it and we had about 3 reservations for the week... yeah that was fun finding a place to eat... after that I joined this DIS.

I don't know why it surprises anyone that a lot of people don't plan their Disney trip. Most people have no idea what all is involved. I just don't understand the need to look down on anyone who doesn't share the knowledge of Disney World that I do.

A lot of people are not planners. Nothing wrong with that. I went on a snowmobiling trip with my dad and brother once (who couldn't make a plan if their lives depended on it) and we got in the car and started driving with no idea even where we were going and managed to have a blast. Not everything has to be planned down in detail and people like my dad and brother would be miserable on a schedule and having to research a Disney trip.

Despite what everyone on here thinks people can not plan Disney and have fun. Keep in mind that to most people its not an multiple time a year thing and there is much fun to be had without adr's and fast passes. And its perfectly okay for people not to like it as well...
There is a lot of ground between having a rigid plan and arriving knowing nothing. Some who advocate not having a plan are not taking into account their knowledge of the Disney parks and resorts. I know I could show up and have a good time without planning, but I would know better than to walk up to the castle looking to eat lunch, or to head straight to Stitch or the People Mover first thing, or to look for the monorail to take me to Universal. I would have a good idea of restaurants to try to just walk up to, or good out of the way CS locations, or which rides to knock out first.

I think advising first timers to show up without any planning is doing them a disservice.

I laugh at those who laugh at us who do not plan.

Wake up and decide which park to attend....every time I go and you know what....never feel like I miss anything or overwhelmed.

ADR....maybe one or two, but have never had a problem playing it by ear and finding someplace to eat. I would rather play it by ear then to have a meal time dictate my daily schedule.

Feeling bad for those kids who parents who don't plan....don't...I still feel it is a better option then those who over plan and drag their small children from place to place....make them sleep in their strollers in the parks (in the 95+ degree heat), because you don't want to leave and miss something.

but you have planned, because you know what is available and how to get what you need.....if you do no research/planning, it will be very hard to know what is available and how to get it......

but everybody tackles their vacations differently....

My all time favorite is when my BIL thought you could fly to Disney World... Not to MCO airport. He was shocked when he found out Disney didn't have its own runway. :sad2::headache: He is an EX BIL now, thank goodness! ;)
