Tell me about Disney Gift Cards from Target

I was thinking of getting my kids a GC from Target using my red card to get the 5% discount. I just want to make sure they will be able to use them down in Disney World next week. Where are they accepted? Could my son use it to buy snacks or is it strictly to be used at the merchandise stores like the Emporium or World of Disney at DTD?

With the exception of Shula's and a glitch in the system at Morocco, we used gift cards exclusively on our honeymoon in April. Like 2,500 dollars worth....

Most of the food carts that were stationary had the readers, but I've read you might have issues with the balloon and lightup toy sellers.

Have fun!

You can use them just about anywhere. We had a slew we just used on our trip - for snacks, for meals, for merchandise. Some of the small cart vendors and such might not be able to take them - any place that can't take a credit card can't take a gift card either. But otherwise, they're easy to use just about anywhere. :)

thank you all! I figured this was a good way to limit the spending for souvenirs we already have at home haha. They know they have X amount to spend and when it's gone, it's gone.

I never thought about the Target card and Disney Gift Cards ... not to hijack your thread, but we've got a trip to F&W planned a month from now. I'm wondering:

1. Do you really save 5% on gift cards ? Most stores exempt anything with "cash value" from such discounts.

2. If so, is there a limit ? If I knew my wife and I would need around $500 for our 4 days passes for the trip, could I buy $500 worth of gift cards and then buy the tickets at the ticket booth with the gift cards ?

3. Likewise, if I bought a bunch of giftcards, could I then go down to Food & Wine and "charge up" a wrist band with the gift card values ?

I'm not usually one to worry too much about working the system, but saving 5% would be fantastic.... it just sounds too good to be true.

You do. You do not save 5% on Target gift cards or the Visa-type gift cards, but all others are coded as "Entertainment" so you will get the discount.

The only limit is how many cards they have in stock and your Target credit limit. Yes, you could do that for your ticket purchase.

You can not use one gift card to buy another so no, that won't work. You could, however, use the gift cards at the food booths or, if you are staying at a WDW resort, you could put the gift cards on your account and then put the booth purchases on your room charge.

It is a good thing. :)

I only had one problem when I purchased my gcs, I had just opened a Target debit redcard. It was a new account so I was limited to the dollar amount, I had to do a bunch of transactions on different days. If I had my account longer I would have been able to purchase as many as I wanted.

It's legitimate. Target classifies Disney gift cards as "entertainment cards" instead of gift cards, so the general restrictions don't apply. I've been picking up an extra couple cards each week for a few months now. No limit that I'm aware of.

You also used to be able to go through ebates online, and earn 2% cash back PLUS your 5% if you ordered them from the website... but I think they stopped doing that.

I think I read on the Budget Board that Disney Gift Cards are NOT accepted at the World of Disney store in DTD. Now that I think about it more, that was a Disney store GC that was not accepted there. I would double check that one though.

I just used two Disney gift cards that I got for 5% off to pay for the pre purchase of my photopass plus. :)

Wow. Did not know all this. Looks like I'm finally going to have to cave and get a Red Card. 5% off of the $2000 or so we'll drop down there in October sounds pretty appealing ! Not to mention what we could save next summer when the whole family needs to get new Annual Passes.

BJs also sells Disney gift cards at a discount, i believe its also 5%. I would assume other warehouse clubs may do the same, but I'm not sure.

Ok so sounds like you can use the gift cards for purchases and tickets.. what about paying off part of your resort? Will they take them for that also?

Yes! You can call or do it online! We have a trip in January that will be around $10,000. I am stoked to save my 5%

I'm definitely asking for Disney gift cards for Christmas to add to all the money I've been saving for my trip
