~ Aug 2013~ Sew what... We've gotta find a way back! Part I!!

Your list of things to get done for your trip IS a lot!! Wow! Hope you can get it all done and retain your sanity. I am very much wanting to plan a trip for September. That free dining beckons me and September is our favorite time to go since the crowd levels are so low. But, DH wants to get our house paid off in the next 3 years and all our extra $ is going to that. So, it may not happen. But he does like to give me anything I want, so we'll see. I haven't brought it up to him yet.

I hope I can get it all done too. That would be fun if you could go in September - I wish we could, but with the girls' school schedules, it just isn't possible.

I struggle with paying things off - especially now that it won't be long and the girls will be off on their own... I figure - I pay off some, and and save some for fun - I have the rest of our lives to pay everything off, but I need to enjoy this little bit of time I have left with the girls young too.

It's so great that you're getting a bit of help from Liz and Chiara. Not that either of them have much going on

I know - they are soooo busy... But I am so happy they are helping out.

As far as the flip flops, I have a good friend who just loves the croc flip flops. They are supportive and look pretty cool as well. you might want to try them. I bought some Keens online last year and love them. They aren't the prettiest things, but they are super comfy. Also, anything by Finn is amazingly supportive and comfortable. Lots of styles, but pretty pricey. Online is better for prices. Zappos always has free shipping and they carry all kinds of brands.

I have a hard time with crocs personally... I never had any foot issues at all until I started wearing them... Not sure if it's just my feet or what? I know that most people wear them and love them.

Well, down to my sewing room I go. Hope you have a great day and that the storm damage is minimal for everyone.

I hope you had a great sewing room day!

We have a DIS friend (who I had the pleasure of meeting at Disney during our December trip), who lives in Moore, Oklahoma. Thankfully, we talked to her last night and she and her family are fine; the devastation around her is surreal as she said.

Oh no... Thanks for letting me know... I am relieved they are OK - how horrible... I feel so badly for everyone in that area. I just can't imagine.

your a busy bee...
Glad your "taking a week off" IF that's what you call it in Minn.. here in Chicago when we take off that mean no work... well the exception of cleaning cooking and running the kids all over still.

9 DAYS!!!

Yes - that is my "week off" - which isn't really... Whoot for 8 days now!

I second the crocs flip flops - I have 2 pair (one I got in Disney - very $$$, but very comfy) - the second pair I bought off the crocs website, they were last years model and on sale. I wore both pair when I was in Hawaii and they were very comfy.

I also just bought a pair of sandals from our Clarks outlet for about $25 - Privos, I think they were called. Seem to be similar in design to Keens, but without the price. I wore them most of the weekend and found them to be comfortable as well.

OK - ok - I will look into the Crocs, but only because you all insist. I will also look into Clarks.

I love the Gingerbread House set! It's absolutely adorable.

I am interested to see what type of flip flops you purchase. I can never find good shoes for WDW. I have tried them all and always have the worst blisters. I always end up wearing my old ugly sneakers by the end of the trip.

It has been a tiring week so far in Oklahoma to say the least. We live north of Moore, but on Sunday the tornado that impacted Shawnee was forming above where we live. We're lucky enough to have a neighbor who allows us to join them in their shelter. I just hope we can catch a break for the rest of the week so the workers can do what they need to do.

I replied to part of your post yesterday... but I will post below about the shoes/sandals... I am such a shoe freak - it isn't even funny.

I woke up today to the news today about the terrible weather in Oklahoma. I can't belive that they only got the warning 16 minutes prior to it happening.

Sounds like you have a very busy time in the sewing room even if you have a week of next week. I hope you can rest a little on your week off.

Yes - it is so sad.

I hope so too - LOL - but it isn't looking that way.

D~ V looks so grown up in her formal dress and I love her shoes! I'm glad she is still a kid at heart - having a ride in the shopping cart! That must have been a fun shopping trip.

It was a lot funny and a bit embarassing at first - but we got used to her. LOL

I'm sure you will be able to get most of your bags done. I was thinking about just making a "cover" for my custom camera strap. I wanted another themed strap but don't feel like recreating another strap so I might try to just make a cover because I love how comfy the strap I made is vs. the strap that came with the camera. Short-cut - YES but for one time use it might fit my bill.

If only I could make a cover for my bags... :scratchin LOL...

I love the idea of doing the appliques on felt. I have the same problem here but luckily I can talk Casey into wearing her "old" custom shirts as PJ tops or can pass them down to her cousin. It does seem like a waste to make something they will only wear once.

Hopefully it works... Then, I was thinking - once we get home, I will just seam rip them off and save them for our next trip - then the girls can still wear their tank tops. :thumbsup2

I just bought a new pair of flip flops. Well, actually they are slides from skechers. Normally I don't have luck with sketchers but I really like these. They have a good arch and give me lots of support. They also have an adjustable strap so you can make them slightly wider or more narrow if needed. They were around $40 after coupons at Rack Room Shoes. I am wearing them to break them in before our trip and have been happy with them so far. I hope you can find something for the girls. Maybe Lands End has something???

Thanks for the link... I looked at those... Alli is so picky - everything I show her she doesn't like... It gets really tiring, because I want them to be comfortable in Disney, and all they care about is fashion. :confused3

I apologize I am so far behind ///// thanks Mo its YOUR fault will catch up fast as I can Just had to comment on the bag Yummmmmmmmmmm I can practically smell the Gingerbread Bravo fantastic job LOVE the lining too

Sure blame me.. it was ONE weekend!!!

There was a famous movie

The Lost Weekend

just sayin' don't say it was ONE weekend like that could give the wrong impression maybe pick a line from Mr Magoo re-Road Hogs LOL ;-)

Yah - I am hoping your Cliff Notes on her PTR help me get through it... I still have to go back and comment on her second post... :rolleyes1

The new set is unique. and..for those not initiated with the Disney Dots, not specifically Disney - If I went to other Christmas activities, like a craft fair or holiday village, I'd take it then too.

That it is Ruth! Yes, I agree - it's Disney, but unless you knew it - you woudn't know it. :thumbsup2

Sorry for the messing of the first wallet. Sometimes you just have to blast the Pandora. Of course, I don't have Disney Station specifically, but I do have Zydeco and Bollywood. Maybe I should add Disney, to get in the mood.

I guess - I didn't care what I blasted, as long as I wasn't listening to myself swear anymore. :rolleyes1

I found a Tinkerbell dust ruffle for $2.00 the last time I went to the thrift store and I am working on disassembling it. It's handmade, so I feel a little bad about taking it apart, but the fabric is in very good condition and, hey - $2.00! Now I just need to think of something to make.

Cool - I am curious to see what you make with it.

Hang in there for your personal customs. And I have faith that you'll get as much as you want done - without sacrificing the auction items.

I hope so too!

I worked all day long yesterday in my sewing room... I got a lot accomplished, I am very pleased. I am also back on schedule. :woohoo:

I got the call from my mechanic last night... Not good news about my Edge... :headache: He replaced the cracked hose and refilled my freon... I still don't have air. It seems that my condensor/evaporator (???) went out... This is something my mechanic is not willing to fix, because he has to take my entire dash out. I am not sure what we are going to do now? I will have to call the dealership tomorrow and find out how much this will cost us. :scared:

**********************************************************

Stay tuned for a really LONG rambling post about shoes...

To take my annoyance off of my car situation... I went online shoe shopping last night... No - I did not buy anything... I only LOOKED. :rolleyes1

So far... These are the shoes I am planning to take with me... (and, yes, I am a dork - I uploaded pictures of shoes to my photobucket account... :rolleyes1)

First - these are my Orthaheels... I wear them everywhere - all day, every day - winter, spring, summer, fall. However - I just realized I have been wearing my current pair for 4 years - I think it's time to get a new pair. I love these because they are waterproof, they have the super high arch I need for my planter fascitis (sp?), and they are also very versitile - I can really wear them with anything.

24tidebk_1_5.jpg

Second - I will be bringing my Keens... I don't wear these a ton anymore, but I have gone back to wearing them to work. I plan to bring these with on our trip because they are semi-waterproof... I wore them on the one really downpour day we had last year, and they were great. The only bad thing about these is that I cannot wear them with out socks - they drive me crazy... So, yes - I am "that person" who wears socks with sandals. popcorn::

71-7StARn7L__SL1500_.jpg

Third - I just got a new pair of tennies a few weeks ago... I purchased these, because for the first time in many years - I put them on in the store and my plantar fascitis didn't act up... They were a little tight because I have a wide foot - so I had to come come and order the next size up... which makes them a hair longer than I'd like - but they are comfortable. I've worn them a few times - here and there... but I plan to break them in a lot harder before our trip.

ASW3203-SKBLNG.jpg

I would still like to get a pair of red Orthaheels like my black ones... but I have not decided yet if I want to - seeing as I would prefer if the footbed wasn't red, but I do like the strap... We will see... I have this "thing" for red shoes... :confused3

orthaheel-sandals-tide-red-tan.jpg

As for the girls... I would like to get them something supportive, yet somewhat water proof, and definately a flip-flop, because that is really all we wear in the summer... I found these - and I LOVE them, I think they are so cute, a good price, and everything I am looking for... but I discovered that this is a colorway from a few years ago - and no longer available anywhere... So, I didn't bother showing the girls - or I'd be hunting for them forever.

2942111.jpg

I did show them these though... Which is the same flip-flop, but one of this year's colorways... Neither of them liked them at all. Figures...

2942128.jpg

I also showed them these - same brand - different style... I thought for sure - hot pink/zebra... total hit... Nope... it was a total fail. What is wrong with these girls??? :confused3

437428_L1.jpg

I am really liking what I see and the reviews of the Reef Fanning - but they just don't come in any cute girly colors like it seems they carried in the past - unless they have yet to release them? But a lot of the Reef Flip-Flops have the contoured EVA footbed with anatomical arch support - which is what I am looking for specifically for the girls - and their price point is reasonable - IMO.

If only I could find them something cute and girly - yet practical and functional (and water proof would be fantastic)... But I am not having much luck.

**********************************************************

I just knew there was a reason I woke at 3am this morning... It was to bore you all with shoe information. :thumbsup2

Seriously - I work at Target today... Then I have to go to BFF's house to exchange her car for my Edge - and bring the beast home...

I hope you all have an amazing day... Ashley and everyone else near OK - please know you are in my thoughts and prayers... and that goes for everyone else who has requested the same lately. :grouphug:

Good Luck today!!! Hope you have a great day! :thumbsup2

thanks for the AWESOME POST!!!!

I just hate hearing about more horrible weather and people who have lost their homes and all their possessions! Prayers to any who were involved or had a scare. Hope this is the end of the storms. I know, unlikely, but we can hope.

I loved all the flip flops you showed. Sometimes I think teen-age girls don't like anything their mom likes or suggest. Just because it's their mom. We all know moms have no taste because we're so OLD!

Yay for being back on schedule. Hope this next week is everything you hope (and need) it to be. I embroidered a beach towel for one of my granddaughters. I have 3 more to do before we leave for Virginia Friday. And I have a much needed massage this afternoon right in the middle of my day. What was I thinking??

So sorry to hear about the AC on your car. Those buggers can be so expensive to fix! Dan went without AC for a couple of years and finally got it fixed last year. It was the compressor and something else. Ended up costing more than I thought the car was worth, but he loves his car. Our house AC wasn't working and a guy came out yesterday to have a look. Turns out a spider had made a "nest" right where the sensor needed to make contact. It took him literally 3 minutes to find what was wrong. I'm grateful it wasn't something major since our house is only 3 years old, but $100 for 10 minutes' work...:faint: He actually checked out the entire system while he was here. I think he felt badly.

Have a great day!

We are very lucky that our AC guy is a friend. He comes over each season without us asking to double check our system and leaves us a bill on the door! We have 3 a/c systems so it can get crazy when one is out!

Our problem is always fireants! They get inside and the contacts don't make contact... so he always brings fire ant killer when he comes! LOL! So I guess you could say he is our bug man as well!

I found out he also comes about once a month during the summer...just to make sure...

Repair men are the best kind of friends to have! LOL (especially with a husband like mine......

Nini

I love orthaheels. I buy mine from QVC at times when I see a good deal. Right now my feet are too swollen for my orthaheels :(.

I am wearing my reef flip flops and a pair of yellow box ones.

c would rather have comfy feet than stylish but I totally think that is a dance thing.

I didn't think your edge was old enough for the AC to go.

I'm going to have to look into Orthoheels - I have plantar fascitis too. I keep it under control by alternating shoes with and without heels. I love my Clarks shoes though. Almost all of my shoes are Clarks - they are very comfortable - even the ones with heels. I bought myself a pair of red sandals last week - love red shoes!

My machine comes today:cool1:, but I'm not going to have time to even open the box until Friday :crazy2:. We have tickets to the Orioles game tonight and tomorrow is our annual awards dinner at work.

Prayers going out to everyone in OK. Been watching on the news and its just unbelievable. Kat continues to make progress. Her Dad is leaving today to head home and he is not happy to be leaving her. She will be leaving Guam tomorrow, I think, but will not get to Bethesda until sometime next week. Again, thanks for your continued prayers for her. I posted a picture of Kat, her grandmother and dad on my FB page.

sorry about your ac issues. Hope & pray the dealership won't charge you an arm & a leg.

We too are praying for all affected by the OK tornadoes.

Congrats for getting back on schedule.

I love your sandals. I am going online to look for a pair right now. I usually get Rockports, but they aren't water proof. I have a tough time with flip flops. Will be curious to try these.

I know the feeling of tryiing to find something daughters will like. My DD was looking for a gown for a formal she had. I saw one I really liked, but instead of sayin, "oh I love this one" I said, this is probably about your size, I'm not crazy about the style, but atleast you can see how the fit is. Guess what gown she got for her formal. hahaha
I must agree, why would the not make feminine looking sandals. whites, pinks, yellows, purple????

Happy shoe/sandal shopping. Good luck!

I hope you find shoes that the girls want to wear. The Keens shoes looks really comfortable. If there is any consolation I wear socks in sandals as well. It's just not comfortable wearing sandals without socks in them.

I got soooo far behind due to a busy weekend and then two days in a class for work listening to the instructor talk about his personal life instead of teaching. :crazy2:

V looks so pretty in her dress for the dance! And the shoes she got were so cute. Hopefully she can get them broken in enough so they stop giving her blisters.

I so want to see pictures when your baby birds are born! Hopefully you can give us updates as they grow up.

The cart pictures made me :lmao: ! Luckily no one was near my office or they might think I was crazy.

The new Gingerbread House bag is really cute. A little too girly for me but perfect for the theme!

The shoes in your last post are very nice. I'm one that has never been able to wear between the toe sandals. No idea why but they bug me. I've got so many problems with my one foot because I broke the ankle badly that I end up having to wear socks and tennis shoes when I have to walk for long periods. I have yet to find a pair of sandals that give me the support I need.

I bought a pair of shoes today and I'll probably take them this fall, but more for the car ride than the walking. They're Payless version of Keds - plain white tennis shoes and I feel very middle aged in them Of course that might be because I'm wearing some of my nicer capris today too.

I can not have things between my toes. No Flip Flop For Me. DH loves them. I did try on a pair that loops over the big toe and that might be tolerable.

Have a good week off!

I bought a pair of Chuck Taylor Converse sneakers last year to wear to the baseball games and because I'm such a nerd they have bright orange laces. Anyways they are some of the most uncomfortable shoes I have. They have no support in them at all and I have to put inserts in them or my feet hurt by the end of the night.

oh NO i am so sorry to hear this!! I hope it works out and it's fixed by the 30th...

Sorry... Don't think that will be happening.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! MY FAVORITE!!!!!!!!!

Mine too! For shoes anyways. LOL

Good because i want to go shoe shopping... it's the only thing on me that hasn't changed size...

I know that feeling...

need visuals.... Nothing dorky about shoes...

Oh good...

um... really... you wear them... with... socks.... oh no....
Are they really comfortable??? I see a lot of people wearing them.

Yes - I have to, otherwise my pinkey toe sticks out the side... Remember V with her toes sticking out of the cart? THat's me in my Keens. Yes - they are comfortable.

O.M.G. these are AWESOME!!!! red is the best!!!

I know!

I LOVE THESE!!!! i want them..
i can't wait to go shoe shopping!!!!
this is my favorite!!! SHOES!!!!

I like them too, I was hoping to find them at the MOA - so I looked up which stores sell them. Need to try them on before I buy.

Good Luck today!!! Hope you have a great day! :thumbsup2

thanks for the AWESOME POST!!!!

Thanks!

So sorry to hear about the AC on your car. Those buggers can be so expensive to fix! Dan went without AC for a couple of years and finally got it fixed last year. Well - glad that turned out good for you. :thumbsup2 I will update about my car below.

We are very lucky that our AC guy is a friend. He comes over each season without us asking to double check our system and leaves us a bill on the door! We have 3 a/c systems so it can get crazy when one is out!

Nini

That is super nice Nini... DH is our repair man - if he can't fix it, then we call someone else in... Most of the time DH can do it.

I love orthaheels. I buy mine from QVC at times when I see a good deal. Right now my feet are too swollen for my orthaheels

Yay!!! Glad to see that someone else knows what they are... They really are the best. You will have your feet back in no time - only a few more weeks!

I am wearing my reef flip flops and a pair of yellow box ones.

I am hesitant to try the Reef ones, until I can try them out in the store... Since you have both the Reef and the Orthaheel... How does the support compare? I have to have the super high arch that the Orthaheel has... Just wondering if the Reefs come close?

c would rather have comfy feet than stylish but I totally think that is a dance thing.

Can we trade children?

I didn't think your edge was old enough for the AC to go.

It's not... It's a 2010... We bought it used though, and my mechanic thinks that whoever owned it before had it in for service and they turned up the pressure on the compressor, which blew my hose (eventually), and never fixed the real problem - which was the evaporator. :headache:

I have a call into the dealership right now... It will either cost me $100 (my deductable - because we did buy a warranty) or it will cost me $2000+ if my warranty doesn't cover it. But looking online last night, it looks like it might actually be covered... :confused3

The Orthaheels take a little getting used to - because that arch is so high. But let me tell ya... I can slip them on after a day at Target, and I can feel my PF getting better by the moment. I swear, I wouldn't have PF at all if it wasn't for Target. I hightly recommend the Orthaheels... However, my cousin ordered them and she hates them... But she doesn't have PF either. :confused3

My machine comes todaybut I'm not going to have time to even open the box until Friday We have tickets to the Orioles game tonight and tomorrow is our annual awards dinner at work.

Yay!!! I don't know how you can go with out opening it... I don't think I could wait. LOL Hope you had fun at the game.

Prayers going out to everyone in OK. Been watching on the news and its just unbelievable. Kat continues to make progress. Her Dad is leaving today to head home and he is not happy to be leaving her. I posted a picture of Kat, her grandmother and dad on my FB page.

I have not been able to watch the news about it yet... It's just too horrible.

Glad to hear that Kat is making progress - so sorry that her Dad has to leave her, I can't imagine how hard that must be for both of them. I did look on your page for a picture yesterday - but I couldn't find it.

sorry about your ac issues. Hope & pray the dealership won't charge you an arm & a leg.

Thanks - me too!

Congrats for getting back on schedule.

It makes me feel so much better - that's for sure!

I love your sandals. I am going online to look for a pair right now. I usually get Rockports, but they aren't water proof. I have a tough time with flip flops. Will be curious to try these.

Thanks! I love them too... The Orthaheels take a lot to get used to. I think they recommend that you only wear them for 30 minutes per day to start with, and gradually work up. I only had to wear them for 30 minutes for a couple of days... With in a week, I was wearing them 24/7 and haven't taken them off since. Just be aware that they have a SUPER high arch, and some people (espcially those with plantar fascitis) find that very comfortable - while others - not so much.

Good luck!

LOL _ maybe I should have tried that? ONe of these days, I will learn.

I hope you find shoes that the girls want to wear. The Keens shoes looks really comfortable. If there is any consolation I wear socks in sandals as well. It's just not comfortable wearing sandals without socks in them.

So glad I am not the only one who wears socks... LOL I know it looks funny - but at least I am comfortable.

I got soooo far behind due to a busy weekend and then two days in a class for work listening to the instructor talk about his personal life instead of teaching.

No worries!

V looks so pretty in her dress for the dance! And the shoes she got were so cute. Hopefully she can get them broken in enough so they stop giving her blisters.

Thanks! HOpefully she can.

I so want to see pictures when your baby birds are born! Hopefully you can give us updates as they grow up.

I will - I forgot to check the nest last night.

The cart pictures made ! Luckily no one was near my office or they might think I was crazy.

LOL

The new Gingerbread House bag is really cute. A little too girly for me but perfect for the theme!

Thanks! It was a very difficult bag for me to do.

That is such a bummer... I prefer flip-flops, I don't know why? I do like socks and tennies - especially at WDW, but I worry that my feet will get too hot in Aug...

I bought a pair of shoes today and I'll probably take them this fall, but more for the car ride than the walking. They're Payless version of Keds - plain white tennis shoes and I feel very middle aged in them Of course that might be because I'm wearing some of my nicer capris today too.

I've always liked those - if I could find a pair with a high enough arch - I would wear them... I remember wearing them all through Jr. High when they were in style in the 80s.

I can not have things between my toes. No Flip Flop For Me. DH loves them. I did try on a pair that loops over the big toe and that might be tolerable.

Have a good week off!

HOpefully you can find something that will work that you like.

I have tried CT Converse... I LOVE the look of them - but they make my PF act up almost worse than any other shoe... I have a red pair riding around in the back of my Edge right now, waiting to be donated.

Well - I went to Target yesterday... I was there for 20 minutes and I got a call from the nurse's office to come get Alli... :confused3 Why is it - when I work one day a week, the day they get sick is that day I am at work? So, I left work and picked her up... Drove to BFF's house and exchanged her car for my Edge and we came home. She has a sore stomach, headache and her eyes hurt... Hopefully she is over it soon.

ETA: Forgot to add my update on my Edge... Well, my mechanic told me that it's my evaporator in my air conditioner that went out. According to him - he would have to take out my entire dash to access it. :( If he did the work - he said it would be a $2000 job. YIKES! There is a possibility that it's covered under the warranty we purchased when we bought the car, and it would only cost me the $100 deductable... I called the dealership yesterday, and they advised me to call the warranty company - which got me nowhere. So, I plan to call the Dealership again (not sure if I will do it today) to see if they can call the warranty company - seeing as it seems that the warranty company prefers to deal with the dealers? Not sure - but if I remember correctly, it will be covered. Unfortunately... Still not sure if I will have it done before Suzi and Mo get here... I feel really badly about that.

I thought about working in my sewing room... BUt then, I made the executive decision to take a nap... :rolleyes1 I didn't have anything on my schedule in my sewing room yesterday, so I decided to take advantage.

Today - I will be in my sewing room all day... I hope to make enough progress that I can go back to working on my auction items over the weekend. I'd love to make a bigger dent in those before Suzi and Mo get here.

I also have a package due to be delivered today... :woohoo: I am super excited about it because it's the first installment of some of the goodies I had custom made for our trip. Not sure when I will do the reveal on those? I'd really like to hold out until I get the bags made - because some of them coordinate... but I don't know if I will be able to hold out that long? I'll probably be posting pictures just as soon as I rip the box open.

That's about all... Nothing else exciting.

Prayers for everyone who needs them, I hope you all have a wonderful day! :wizard:

I agree that the Chucks make my PF act up more than any other shoe, but I still wear them to ball games. The inserts do help - I can at least get through the entire game. Soon I'll switch to flip flops though.

I meant to add last night that I Love ASICs shoes! I have a pair of ahem"running" shoes that I wear a lot - my feet do get tired in them if I wear them too long though.

I broke down and opened the box and took out the instructions before we left for the game last night. I read through everything and now I am chomping at the bit to get started! Too bad I'm not going to even get home until after 9 tonight....

Have a great day!

Edit: Not sure why you couldn't see the picture, it's the second one on my FB page. Kat update: She's on her way home! Currently in Okinawa, where she was held up briefly. The hospital sent an update to her Dad, who is still on his way home too.

$2000 to get your air condition fixed is a lot of money. I hope you can get it on your insurance.

I hope Alli get well soon. It's no fun being sick.
