I'm about 99% certain that they have them (legally I think they may have to) but when I tried the online booking site, none came up for any of three quiet dates I tried. It could be that the system hasn't been updated since they listed the Accessible rooms as separate bookable items at the end of Feb. I'll check for you though.

Thanks Andre ... its seems to be the 64million dollar question, I've called twice now and neither CM was able to say for certain if any Royal Rooms had a roll-in shower, only if they had 'access' like handle bars and stuff.

Hi - I was just looking at the resort maps over on the PORiverside thread - all the rooms are the same size, correct? The map makes it "appear" that some of the rooms in the mansions look smaller than others.

How frequent are reports of "critters" especially the legless kind coming for a visit to ground floor rooms near the river

Of the 3 floors, can anyone post which floor they prefer & why? Debating if I want to make a ground vs. top floor request and would like to hear opinions.

TIA :goodvibes

I haven't stayed at POR yet, but from what I have read, and from my own experiences at resorts around the world, ground floor if situated in a more accessible area may have much more traffic - people getting to and from where they need to go - I have requested the next floor up, there are elevators so no stairs to contend with (my mum is in a mobility chair) and psychologically you may feel more comfortable regards critters of the legless kind ;)

I think I've read this whole thread (and the one before it). Not sure if this question has been asked.

Which offsite pizza places will deliver to POR? I understand I need to meet them in the lobby because they aren't allowed to the rooms. But what are the choices?

I asked this a while back and was given this link I was told that they are very good http://www.giordanos.com/menu.html I never tried them yet but plan to. I was thinking it would be fun to have pizza while we watch the outdoor movie.

Flippers (in Crossroads) is also very good and a favorite of CM's for lunch.
(I might get stoned for saying this)

Stan, are you still going to Star Wars? Isnt it about over?

Hmm. ok, according to your ticker not. Is this convention vs. Starwars weekends at Disney?

I believe that snakes in the rooms are very rare but with my fear of them I prefer the top floor. Ive only stayed on the second floor and did not have any issues with noise coming from above me but I would think that the top floor would have even less of a chance of noise from the floor above you ie the bouncing of a basketball. I also think the view from the top floor would be a nicer view.

All of the rooms are exactly the same size (apart from a few of the wheelchair accessible rooms which have been slightly extended near the entrance door). Not sure how the map implies otherwise, it's of whole buildings not rooms.

By the way, one other advantage of top floor rooms is the lack of any possible noise through the ceiling from people in the room above.

Yikes, that was not nice of the room assigners! Was this at WDW or elsewhere?

Not maxiesmom, but I've been bumped from a preferred room to a standard room at Pop Century. The CM wasn't even going to tell me. I noticed the room location and reminded him that we had paid for a preferred room. He looked at it, said "Oh yes, you did. Sorry, but we overbooked those preferred rooms and had to move you to a standard room. That happens frequently". We then had to insist on the price difference being refunded. He said it took a manager to do that and all the managers were busy and did we really want to wait that long since the price difference between a standard and a preferred room is not really all that much.:rolleyes1:sad2:

We are just back from eight days at POR (and I already miss it!) and I come bearing information about the trundle bed! :)
We are a family of five and had a refurbed room in building 36. When I saw our location, I was initially disappointed since it was at the very BACK of the resort AND faced the parking lot, which meant that we were walking as far as you possibly could. But, since we didn't pay for preferred, I knew this was a possibility. After a day in our room though, I discovered it was a great location for us. The walk really wasn't that bad (probably less than ten minutes to the food court and even quicker to the pool). And everyone, including the three year old, handled it just fine. We were on ground floor and the room was QUIET. I assume because no one was passing by with our remote location. Lol! This made it great for afternoon napping. We were very close to North depot, which I loved because the bus was never full when it picked us up in the morning. By the time it got to South (the main depot) it always seemed to be standing room only. I sent DH in every morning to fill mugs while I got dressed with the kids, and even had my 11 year old go to fill up his mug by himself once. He managed fine and never got lost. :)
So, here's the low down on the room and the trundle. I initially planned for the three year old to sleep in the trundle with a bed rail. There was some concern that the bed rail would not work with the trundle since the mattress was set down in a box. I even called mouse keeping before our trip to check and was told it wouldn't work. When we got there though, I found that you could easily move the mattress out of the box and push it back and have plenty of room for the bed rail. It fit just fine. Of course, THEN the three year old decided she would rather sleep with ME, so we moved the bed rail to the regular bed (where it didn't fit nearly as nicely) and she slept with me all week. My eleven year old (who is five feet tall) wanted the trundle. He was very comfortable on it and slept great all week. Plus, it has a cute shelf above it, which enabled him to make endless Lego scenes. :)
As far as storage goes, there is not a ton, but what is there is very well thought out. The three drawers below the trundle were perfect for storing the kids pajamas, underwear, bathing suits and socks. I put the eleven year olds suitcase between the table and trundle and it was out of the way. The other suitcase for the girls was set on the bench over the air conditioner. This was a nice place to store things. There is a shelving unit beside the fridge, which was perfect for storing our extra bags of sunscreen and toiletries, and we brought a hanging shoe rack and hung it on the rod by the sinks. That really helped clear up the space. The shelf above the sinks was perfect and kept the area uncluttered. And we brought a cloth box for our park supplies and kept it on the table. Even with five people in a small space for a week, the room was very functional and did not feel crowded or cluttered. It was set up really well for someone like me who likes everything to have a place. I was very surprised at this. We put extra suitcases between the bed and bathroom wall and they were never in the way. In true Disney fashion, someone spent a lot of time working out the details in this room. I don't think there is anything I would change. :)
We did find one critter in our room. Leroy the lizard was hanging out in my make up when I went to wash my face one night. I assume he got in while mousekeeping was there. He was fairly easy to catch and we returned him to his outside home. The kids were delighted and I was very thankful that Leroy wasn't a roach. :)
The food court was WONDERFUL and I ate the create your own pasta both nights we were there. Lol! The bar has a fabulous piña colada that I am really missing.
All in all it was a great stay. This was our second trip, but our first at POR (we stayed at the cabins last time and loved then as well...but not the price) and I imagine that we will stay at POR for our January 2014 trip. The atmosphere of the resort is fabulous and I just loved walking around and taking pictures of everything. I'm ready to go back now! :)

Sounds like you had a great stay. I love the create your own pasta.

We are booked on Fri 8/3 to check in but will be arriving late (we're driving).
I asked the CM on the phone if they will hold our room and she said yes they will hold it until the next day. We have a garden view room, just wondering if they will give us a less than desirable location for checking in late due to other rooms already filled or is our room actually assigned a number?
How full to capacity is POR this time of year?

Thanks!!

The planning madness has begun lol We are now considering NOT getting a RGR and putting in a request for Magnolia Terrace ground floor. We much rather use the extra money for other fun stuff. My mother in law is starting to get excited about it all. I think it finally sunk in that she is REALLY going to Disney!

Thanks for such a great review. I was concerned about almost everything you mentioned. We have a 10, 7 and 3yr old. You helped ALOT! Thanks

Thanks Andre ... its seems to be the 64million dollar question, I've called twice now and neither CM was able to say for certain if any Royal Rooms had a roll-in shower, only if they had 'access' like handle bars and stuff.

OK, the official answer is that in the Royal buildings there are 6 rooms with roll-in showers (one standard, two garden, one water and two river views, all ground floor), plus another 8 wheelchair-accessible rooms with bathtubs, and another 13 rooms modified with extra handrails/etc.

All of those room categories should be visible by anyone at the reservations center, and the special needs department has apparently already been assigning these rooms to guests who specifically require them, so they do know about them.

If you have any further problems, please get in touch with me and I'll put you in touch with someone who can give you more assistance.

We will be arriving later this afternoon. I am sitting in a hotel about 2 1/2 hours away waiting for by DH to get out of his meetings so we can leave. I have most of the van packed, just a few more items I am using to keep the kiddos entertained until we leave to pick up dad. Disney channel on tv and video games in hand. These next few hours won't pass fast enough.

Hoping to arrive and have time for the kiddo's to swim and then have dinner. A good nights sleep and up early for breakfast at ohana.

Andre, I can't thank you enough for all you do. You have made my planning so much easier :flower3:

Haha, its funny because the first woman spent AGES trying to find out and was frustrated herself saying it should be readily available info. The second person said there was nothing to specify whether it was a roll-in shower or not. Ok .... I'll try and again :rotfl2:

Yay! Your mother will have a blast. I love taking my Mum, its so wonderful to see such a smile on her face when she sees a character or a little girl dressed as a princess.

Feb will be a great time to go - great weather, great crowds!
