Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread --- 2012, Part Two --- NOW CLOSED

From news page at www.portorleans.org/rehab.php:

The Alligator Bayou guest room refurbishment program is continuing apace, with one new building commencing work every Sunday. Building #39 closed today, and building #34 is due to close on Sunday 17th June. The work is generally taking twelve days per 64-room building, so #39 and #34 are intended to be returned for guest use on the 22nd and 29th of June respectively.

As previously mentioned, the ‘twenties’ numbered buildings are taking slightly longer to complete due to the additional roofing work that is being carried out, which is being further hindered by the wet Florida summer weather. Buildings #27 and #25 are currently estimated to be returned for use on the 20th and 27th of June, but those dates are still somewhat uncertain.

Finally, buildings #26 and #35 will both be closed together on Sunday 24th June, which will signal the final goodbye for the last few non-refurbished guest rooms at Port Orleans. By the end of the first week in July there should be just one building still undergoing renovation (#26) which will hopefully be completed around the third week in July.

The work on the main lobby at Port Orleans Riverside is also moving along well now, with the new chandelier already hoisted up into place. Work continues on laying the fabulous new tiling, and currently the plan is for the construction walls to be removed overnight on Wednesday 20th June, reopening for guests on 21st June.

Thanks for the updates :thumbsup2

Sounds like its all coming along nicely :goodvibes

Andre!!! I neeeeed yoooooou :p

Please clear something up for me. Do the Royal Rooms have queen beds? The Disney website says double beds, another poster on Dis said queen, another site said most rooms have queen but the Royal Rooms don't, they have double.

But I know you'd know for sure ;)

Thanks!

Gotta love the internet eh? Some sites makes the Disney Reservations Center seem like a reliable source of information. :)

Yes, ALL of the Royal Guest Rooms at POR have two QUEEN beds. There are no Doubles, no Kings, and no trundle/murphy beds - just the two queens.

Hello ^_^ My husband and I have a Disney Cruise planned and will be staying at WDW after our cruise. We're just looking into the different resorts that we're considering.

We're VERY interested in the Royal rooms and I was wondering if, as of this date, the Royal rooms are ONLY in Oak Manor and Parterre Place?

Thank you!

Another question for you .... are any of the Royal Rooms disabled friendly - i.e. have a roll in shower? Reservations at Disney had no idea ... infact, the CM I spoke with was even frustrated herself as she said she could not find a definitive answer (she apparently called through to disability services), therefore how was she able to help guests with disabilities?

My Mom can cope with a regular shower, its just very painful so if I can lessen her pain, its a bonus.

I'm sorry to just ask a simple question, but I am hoping to switch resorts tomorrow morning, so need a quick answer. Do all of the AB rooms have the trundle bed? TIA

I don't know about the king rooms but the rest of the rooms all do have the murphy bed or trundle depending on whether the room is in a refurbished building

Refurbished - murphy
Not yet refurbished - trundle

Almost a moot point though;)

I'm about 99% certain that they have them (legally I think they may have to) but when I tried the online booking site, none came up for any of three quiet dates I tried. It could be that the system hasn't been updated since they listed the Accessible rooms as separate bookable items at the end of Feb. I'll check for you though.

Do all of the AB rooms have the trundle bed? TIA

Only a very few still have the trundle beds as they are being replaced with pull down murphy beds (the last trundle-bedded rooms will be closed on 24 June), but yes ALL of the AB rooms (except for Accessible Rooms) will have one option or the other.

I did read the FAQ, that's where I found out the names for the buildings. But I know that there were some more work being done with the resort so I was wondering if they expanded at all.

Thank you for your answer :flower3:

thank you so much for the quick responses. I knew about the murphy bed vs trundle, just couldn't remember the name LOL

thanks again!!!

I think I've read this whole thread (and the one before it). Not sure if this question has been asked.

Which offsite pizza places will deliver to POR? I understand I need to meet them in the lobby because they aren't allowed to the rooms. But what are the choices?

Hi there as you can see I'm new to this site.

We'll be on our way to WDW as of the 1 Aug and are staying at POR for 18 nights. We're a family of four Me (DW) DH, DS (12) & DD (8) 9th birthday whilst we're away (first family trip)...all very exciting.

Just wondering will we be allocated a room with two queen size beds or will there be pull out beds. (I apologise if this has already been answered elsewhere). Also would we be better off asking to be near the food court or just go with the flow?

One final question can you order cakes etc for birthdays?
:cheer2:

Hi, and welcome!

As a family of four you could be allocated a room with two queen beds in the Magnolia Bend section, or a room in the Alligator Bayou section with an extra murphy bed. If you particularly want that extra bed, put in a request for an Alligator Bayou room. If you want to pay extra for a Preferred Location (i.e. a building close to the food court) then you will be guaranteed an AB room.

And yes, you can order special cakes. They do a basic one at the food court, or with 48 hours notice the Boardwalk Bakery can make you a more special one and have it sent over to Port Orleans for you.

Try and keep in mind that unless you are a family of 5, they will not guarantee you will get a room with the murphy bed. I've gone before, and asked for any room in the Bayou section, to be told that as they were almost to capacity they were holding them back for larger families.

If you absolutely need to have a 3rd sleeping space, you may want to bring an air mattress along with you, just to be safe.

But if she books a preferred room she will be guaranteed an AB room with the murphy bed because they are all in the AB section. I believe that it is slightly smaller than the trundle bed that it replaced. The 8/9 year-old girl would fit fine, the 12 year-old may fit OK.

That is true too. Unless she ends up unlucky like me and gets bumped from her preferred room. I've had that happen twice, though neither time was at POR.

Thank you i'll bear the air mattress in mind as not sure we'll have enough space in the cases.

Would ideally like the extra bed as DS and DD tend to disturb one another if sharing the same bed.

Yikes, that was not nice of the room assigners! Was this at WDW or elsewhere?

BTW, we also live in the mitten; Ann Arbor to be more precise. When we took our granddaughters to WDW and met Alice in Wonderland she asked them what land they came from and the older one replied "Michigan". Alice replied that she heard that it was very cold there because it was shaped like a mitten. That was the beginning of one of the best character conversations they had.

Both of our children attended college on the west side of the mitten and our daughter lives in Berrien County.
