ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Winter 2011 Edition

Yay! You'll be there at the same time as we will. :wizard::goodvibes We're getting -- let me rephrase that -- *I'm* getting way excited too. :dance3:

Yay, we may see you there...we have booked both Ohana and the Luau...as we always love both and it lets us maximize our Poly time :)

The DDs always loved the Neverland Club when they were little...good times, good times....but now they are both old enough to have a lapu lapu instead ;)

Hi everybody,

I been back for a week now but finally decided to write a "small" trip report. We loved our stay at the Poly, like always. We did notice some changes the major one being wristbanding everybody at the pool each day and WHAT a difference it made especially over the 4th of July weekend. We saw anywhere from 2-6 people a day get asked to leave because they weren't staying there. It was really nice to see that improvement.

Of course on July 3rd and July 4th it was very crowded with EVERYBODY coming to the Poly for the firework show. It is a really crazy sight and you can't imagine it unless you see it. (I have pictures of it too). On the 4th of July I noticed they were setting up rows of chairs on the beach and at first I was starting to get mad thinking they were actually promoting people to come and sit on beach and watch it but it turned out that those chairs were reserved for anybody staying in the Hawaii building (which was very nice).

We stayed club level (GV)and once again enjoyed the lounge and what it had to offer. We never did see the evening appetizers this time around because we were always at the parks then.

Breakfast included bagels, mini muffins, oatmeal (which was great), fruit, cinnamon buns, crossiants and various cereal and juice/milk. Afternoon snacks included oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies, gummy bears, goldfish, and some kind of mix and some days popcorn. Evening were cocktails, wine and cookies and mini desserts.

We ate at both Kona and Ohana. Ohana was once again the BEST place to eat in Disney. Excellent food and service was good except that they had no pineapples for the lapu lapus. :confused3 Kona was just good.

The bus service was actually really good this time around (and we hate taking the bus). We usually only had to wait maybe 5 minutes except for once we waited probably 15 minutes or so. And there was a cast member there monitoring the buses also (which I never seen before). Monorail was good, no real big issues.

One little issue was mousekeeping. Some days they didn't come until after 3 p.m. Two mornings they knocked at the door around 8:30 but we weren't really and they didn't come back until 4 and then we were in the room again getting ready for dinner. They always did a good job though.

Any other questions?

We are going back to the Poly the week of Sept 19th, our last visit was in 2002 ...we are so excited! :)

In 2005 we stayed at the CBR for the first time after many times staying at the Poly and it was not the same....not magical according to my daughters.

It will be me, my DH, my recently married DD and the baby DD ....celebrating the baby DDs graduation from LSU! :yay:

GO Tigers! :woohoo: Have a great stay, you will fall in love, all over again.;)

cmac609 thanks for the report!

One month from today I will checking into the Hawaii building!:banana::banana:

And, BTW, for those of you staying club level, I just wanted to mention that I have had some fabulous interactions with the IPO both by email and by phone in the course of planning my trip. I am an uber-planner, but I have let them take the reins a bit for this trip, and it has been wonderful.

It sounds like everyone is having fantastic and positively magical stays at the Poly so far this summer! :thumbsup2

I am so jealous of all of you who get to go soon! I hope the magical trend continues for all of you as well!

P.S. I wrote this in green because I'm green with envy, LOL.

we also have had excellent service from the IPO- our last experience with YC was just fair. Could not get me any reservations we wanted and were really not helpful so I have been very pleased with the service and quick responses for our trip in 3 weeks. This is our first time Concierge at the poly and can't wait!

Once I get through this work day I only have one more day until our Poly Vacation!!!!!:cool1:
Almost have everyone packed! :yay:
One question: Does it get cool enough for jeans in the evening?:confused3

Aloha, In July, not really but my hubby will still wear jeans or slacks in evening! We've gone in July quite a few times and its usually upper 70's low 80's (evening). We've also gone in March/April and it gets pretty chilly then.

pixiedust::beach: How exciting, have a great magical trip, I will be there in one week!:cool1:

I would say save the room in your luggage for all the stuff you'll buy when you're there! :thumbsup2

We went in Sept. last year -- so marginally cooler than when you'll be there --and outside of the light sweater we needed on the plane whilst leaving Chicago, we didn't wear anything other than shorts, tanks and dresses. Except my hubster, tried as I might, he just wouldn't be convinced to put the darn Minnie dress on. ;)

I would typically say no it doesn't get cool enough this time of year but you also never know. We don't like to travel/fly in shorts so wear comfy pants (yoga, jeans, khakis, etc) on the flight and then we have the pair we travel in for *just in case* there is a cooler night. Then they don't take up that extra luggage space and your prepared if you feel compelled to toss on a pair of pants. :thumbsup2

Will you be doing dinner at 'Ohana? We've only ever done the character breakfast.

By the way, I love  the puppy picture! Too flippin' cute!

I am very excited to watch the fireworks from the beach at poly! My question is...can you hear the music and soundtrack?

We will be doing dinner on Wed 21st ...i booked it late so we could hopefully see the fireworks. We have in the past done both breakfast and dinner...always loved it. We are doing the luau on Tue night.

We got the dining deluxe plan ....I remember when this plan use to even include tip  One year we stayed in the CL with the Dining plan ...so we really did not use the CL.

And the pup is our new SPCA find, we have had her for 5 mos now...got her at 8 mos old ....she is a character....thanks :)

We don't know what she is  but we love her
