For $126 would you rent a car?

We are staying on-site at CSR. We of course have the option for ME to get to & from the airport. I have been pricing rentals (National) for several weeks & I can now get $126 for 7d/6n (includes taxes).

Our driving 'needs' include the following:

Outlet Mall
Bahama Breeze

Realistically I could do both of those for probably $50 in taxi fares. (Possibly more as it would be 1 trip to Mall, Mall to BB, BB to CSR).

I would plan on a trip to either Hess or possibly WM to grab a case of water for the room if we did get the car, and the water savings would help offset the cost also.

When traveling to the parks I don't really have a problem with the bus system, but still thinking it might be nice to be able to come & go as we please for a net cost of maybe $60 - $75.

Any opinions from you guys?

I don't know what is happening with rental car rates, but I went back, entered my dates again (same coupons & discount codes) & now we are down to $114.48. It's making the decision easier LOL................

Do it. We rented a car last November, and it was a huge life saver! I ended up having to go to the ER while on the trip for kidney stones, and even though when I went it was 2 AM and I ended up taking the ambulance there because I couldn't move/walk down to the car, but I did need the car to get to CVS! It was very helpful. Though, I did get a speeding ticket.. darn my California driving! So be careful!

It is REALLY easy to pick up too much speed on that drive in from the airport!!! Had to slow myself down before!!!

Thanks for the encouragement. I haven't figured out a reason not to yet at all to be honest. If we do end up at the back end of CSR it might be nice to just take the car down to a parking spot closer to the front to get breakfast too LOL.

And maybe we could add a late night stop at Steak N Shake.........................

I would definitely rent and then you could drive yourself to the parks rather than depending on Disney Transportation. It would make your wait times at close a lot less. We drive down anyway but even staying on property we drive to the parks.

Which month are you going to rent the car? I tried to look around for summer dates but everything is so expensive. Do you mind to share the code and discount?

I, personally, would not rent the car. One of the reasons that we go to Disney is that we can have a break from driving. We enjoy not having to drive ourselves.

Absolutely rent the car. Though it's really going to come down to a matter of personal preference when you ask for this opinion, I can say we've done with and without a car at WDW and I will never go back to not having a car. We may not use it terribly often, but it is invaluable for when you need things from the store (which we seem to always do), if you get sick (which I have), if you like to park hop or are dining at a resort hotel. I find driving FAR less stressful than having to put aside an hour of my day just to make sure I get to my ADR in time on the buses.

We always rent a car. If we have to wait at the hotel bus stop more than 20 minutes, we jump in the car and go. Having the ability to get to the grocery store saves us tons of money on food. Keep checking your rental rate - ours has been dropping by $10-$15 every couple of days for May 15-21.

We won't go without a car.

1) I hate lugging a stroller on and off the buses. anywhere.
2) Sorry but I find Disney quest to not be the nicest, if god forbid you have mechanical difficulties with your stroller and ****gasp*** hold up the bus for 30 secs longer. Talk about if looks could kill!!
3) Park closing mad house on buses. No thank you, I'll skip.
4) opened up a bunch on new dining options because now we can go resort to resort without it taking 45 mins.
5) off site options. I find the immediate area near disney very easy to navigate.

At that price, the savings of 3 meals offsite would cover the cost of the car. Now gas is a whole 'nother story. LOL.;)

I would not. You have to pay for insurance, gas and parking at parks. Adds up and you don't need it!

Plus++++ I love the buses there.

:confused3
Insurance - my normal everyday car insurance cover me while I am renting a car = $0
Parking at the park - staying onsite so there is no charge to park at the parks = $0
Gas - We have never used a full tank of gas (compact car) on any of our trips and we drive everywhere on Disney property. = $32 (based at $4/gal and 8 gallon tank)

So for $115 + $32 = $147
It is totally worth it!

I just checked Natiopnal and saved $100 on my reantal rate

When i booked a month ago, was 260! and that was better than avis at 292! Now at 168

thanks!! And yes, I love having a car. I can choose to use it or not. Heading to sushi at Kimono's on arrival night and don't have to worry about how to get back to OKW....priceless!

At $114 with already planning at least $50 in taxis, I'd absolutely rent the car. No hesitation (and I don't mind the bus system 98% of the time).

Absolutely, I tried to Disney one time without a car and ended up paying a small fortune to rent one after one day of busses. I hated that we were wasiting hours each day waiting for or traveling on busses. We had to get from POR to WL for dinner one night and it took an hour and a half. We got back called Alamo and picked up a car the next morning, so much better!!!

I will never, ever go without a car again!
