Who Loves College Football

I am a huge football fan! I cannot tell you how excited I am that football season is finally here!!!!!!!!!!!! :cool1: I have to admit that I am a NFL fan first, but I also love to watch college football. DH is more college football fan than NFL; I am more NFL fan than college. However, I watch it all and just love football!
I mostly follow the SEC games because I was born and raised in south Louisiana until we moved for DH's job in 2002. LSU is my favorite college team, but I follow all SEC games.

I don't want to hijack this thread at all, and I am sorry to jump off topic for just a moment, but I had to since I saw all of these Notre Dame fans here.
Our Panthers just drafted Jimmy Clausen. Since I really don't follow ND football, I haven't really watched him play except our first preseason game. I was hoping some of you can tell me more about him. From what I have heard on ESPN and other reports, he is like a golden boy in football. I would love to get feedback from you ND fans. You can PM me so we don't hijack this thread.

'Canes at this house. DH has a room with a huge screened tv and the entire room is done in that ikky orange and green. He loves inviting fans of the other FL teams over for ribs and beer and to "enjoy" the game. :woohoo: I leave for the day. :thumbsup2

He was a highly regarded recruit from So Cal that came to ND with a lot of publicity. He was often thought of a cocky by outsiders but by most accounts was a good teammate while at ND. While ND"s record the last couple of years hasn't been too good, it is more due to a horrible defense then to Clausen's performance.

He started from early in his Freshman year and got better each season and put up very good #'s as a Jr (last season). He ran an NFL type system at ND which should help his transition to the pro game. Not sure why he fell to the 2nd round, when guys like Tebow went in Rd 1, but I would guess he'll be your starter by the end of this season.

DH is a die hard FSU fan- since he was very young. I don't know why- we live in Maryland and he had never even been to Florida until we went a few years ago to Disney. He has been to a few games up here FSU/Md, and one at Duke(which is his favorite college basketball team). He didn't go to FSU or Duke- just a little wierd!! LOL He met Bobby at the Duke game(probably a highlight of his life- maybe more than our wedding or DD being born) :lmao:

GO POKES!
(That's all I've got to say about that...)

I have to admit that I thought he sounded cocky on some of the interviews I saw. However, he did impress me in our first preseason game. He rose to the #2 position from #3 during training camp. I have heard many reports that the NFL type system was used in ND so that was a huge help. He looked very comfortable on the field last week. I can't wait to watch more Saturday night. This will be an interesting season for us.

I am new here, loves Disney but like to talk other things also. I am a huge college football fan, love the fall and the whole college game day.

I am a Purdue grad, DW is a double Purdue grad, Oldest DS went 3-1/2 years at Purdue now finishing up a VU (Valpo). second DS went four years in US Air Force now is going to graduate this fall from Purdue.

Have season football tickets and season basketball tickets.

Just like to see if there is others of like mind. So lets hear form Big ten, Pac ten, ACC, Sec, and all others.

Boiler-Up

Boiler-Up!

Both my wife and I are Purdue grads and we are also season ticket holders. I make the trip from Milwaukee for each and every home game

DH's favorite fan of all!!! One of his best friends is a die hard FSU fan also. For one of the games, DH made up the FSU mascot using a unicorn stuffed animal (as the horse, of course) and borrowed a child's magic wand for the spear. That poor guy caught hell! It was funny! :lmao:

Thanks for sending Joe Tiller back home after he retired. We missed him...

Most ND fans will tell you that you can have Jimmy because we don't want him. He is cocky and arrogant, and not at all what he's cracked up to be. That's my take too. Others will tell you that he IS good and was held back by poor coaching and a bad offensive line. I will admit that he definitely took some beatings at ND, and he did keep on keeping on after all that, but even when he was covered he failed to impress. Jimmy also upset many fans when he said he chose ND for the face time and to get him prepared for the big time since ND gets a lot of attention and hype. His choice had nothing to do with sincere interest in ND or the football program. So I suppose we'll just have to wait and see how he does in the pros, but his ND career did nothing to create interest for many of us.

I prefer College to NFL but enjoy High School the most. My nephew played for DePauw & is on the coaching staff of Indy Pike. I live in ND land so I am hoping for a good year because it helps my area. and I lived in "the Region". I also love Football cause it means Fall I love fall.

I would say that 90% of the ND fans that we know, would agree with what the highlighted part states. He was a pampered, whinny kid who couldn't live up to his hype or didn't think he needed to really work/perform to live up to his hype. He left a really bitter pill in the mouths of the fans, when before leaving he consulted with Charlie. Charlie was not loved by alum or boosters.

I understand that the alum and boosters want the program back to it's glory days, but realisticly a coach has to have a good 3 to 4 years to build "his" rooster. And that starts after his first year of coaching. That 1st year, he is mainly going to be working with the prior staffs rooster. His 2nd year there, his players are incoming freshman, his 3rd year freshman and sophmores. By that 4th year - he should have a good core of Jr's with Sr's he has had since they were freshman that he has helped mold, plus "his recruited players". Now you can start holding him accoutable to "his program".

ND doesn't want to wait for this, but then again what top team does want to wait to rebuild. When you let a coach go and don't have the advantage that Purdue did in both football and basketball, when Tiller and Keady retired but the replacement coaches were already hired and in place as asistant coaches, it seems like the bigger the college name, the less latatude they have for rebuilding the team. It's not gonna happen over night, it's not gonna happen in a year, give the staff time, people.

It will be interesting to watch ND these next few years to see how they progress under the new coaching staff.

ROLL TIDE ROLL

I'm curious. What is this pro football thing these people speak of? Very strange. I vaguely recall hearing something about that because it involved Bama's Joe Namath and some big ball game. ;)

I had my toenails painted Penn State blue today in preparation for kick off. We live in NC but we are training DS (since before he would hold his own head up) to convince him he wants to go to PSU. The only acceptable alternative is Syracuse- but only if he wants to play lacrosse for them.

Oh and I believe that Joe Paterno has earned the right to coach until he dies right there on the field and they carry him out feet first. Amen.
