We had to cancel our trip in July due to my illness :sad1: I spent the week in the hospital rather than at the YC :sad2:

I'm finally feeling some better and we are considering a quick long weekend trip before DS returns to school (high school) as we can't take him out during the school year.

Due to my illness we won't be able to do a whole lot. This trip will be strictly to relax. We've been several times before so instead of the parks this trip would be - sleep in, late breakfast, relax around the pool, and DTD or fireworks from the beach area. Ride the monorail to the resorts, ect. Very low key, relaxing trip.

Based on this would the YC/BC area still be the right choice? Or should we consider the WL or Poly for a more relaxing atmosphere? Also being so close to Epcot I might want to go to the park and probably shouldn't....

Thanks for any suggestions!

Glad to hear you are feeling better! I remember the sad news when you shared with us that you had to postpone your trip.

As much as I personally love the BC, from what you are describing you want to do, a monorail resort would probably be best. Since you are interested in visiting other resorts, you would have the easiest time getting around to GF/CR/Poly by staying at one of them. There are great opportunities for dining at the monorail resorts. Getting to other resorts from the BC/YC would be difficult and involve either a taxi, bus to a park and transfer, or getting to the front of EPCOT to get a monorail (tickets required).

In July, I watched the Electric Water Parade and Fireworks from the Poly beach and it was such a peaceful, enjoyable night. Pack some bug spray or cloths, get a fruity drink from the pool bar and you are good to go!

Although this is a BC/YC forum, there are a lot of opinions about monorail resorts on the preceding pages in response to another posters questions.

Good luck with your decision- let us know! :grouphug:

Even more DISers! Let me know if I missed anyone.
A lot of trips coming up VERY soon! Have a great time, everybody! :woohoo::yay:

Flat Dee- I'm there all the time!!!

NOTE FROM TEENA:
"OK, I now have my full schedule up until I leave to go out and help Jeanne in school.

Working:
8/12, 8/13, 8/14, 8/15, 8/16, 8/21, 8/22 and 8/23.

Really looking forward to meeting lots of disboarders. Let me know if you schedule a meet on any of these days. I could do them any day but 8/23 ... gotta rush home and pack and get up at 4 AM the next day to get to the airport."

OK, I have edited the list for guests who will be there next weekend.

Two possibilities for a meet would be Sat Aug 21 or Sun Aug 22, 5:30 to 6:30. Teena works until 6 PM on both of those days.

Reply to the message if you are pretty sure you would attend if a meet was set up. Please don't respond if you are unable to make it on either of those days. Obviously, even if you are not on the list, you can reply if you would attend.

Deadline to respond: Thursday August 19

For example:

Flat Dee- I would attend either 8/21 or 8/22

JoePoster: Can attend only 8/22.

If there is enough interest (say 4 responses plus Teena) on either of those days, lets set something up.

Sounds like you are planning a "resorts" vacation. If that is the case, and you are going to have trouble getting around (as you suggest Epcot is out of the question), I would agree with Dee and go with the monorail resorts. However, I would specifically recommend GF and if you really want to treat yourself, go all the way with the CL package. However, I have found from personal experience that the GF is a very relaxing resort and you don't need to spend the additional dollars to enjoy it all. Good luck and hope the recovery goes well.

Natebenma, We would love to attend but we don't land until 5pm on Sunday 22nd so I should think we'll be checking in about 7pm - a bit late! I'll have to keep my eyes and ears peeled for any Disboarders while we are there (and pop in to meet Teena on the monday :))

Have a look out for a rather rotund 40+, not rotund hubbie and 12 year son with English accents!!

After a serious illness since March ,which almost took my dream away, I am finally going on our Dream Vacation to the Beach Club on 8/22!!!!! Our daughter is getting married on 8/21. So we will be celebrating her honeymoon with her as well as our 30th Anniversary!!!! This will be a true celebration of life!!!!! I'm just so very happy!! Thanks for listening. That's tough ... I'd say go to the monorail resorts but you said relax around the pool and we have the best pool. And as far as DTD, I'd much rather be at our resort and deal with our bus than use the bus at the monorail resorts to go to DTD since they share with 3 resorts. It's a tough one ... there's pros and cons for each area with the type of trip you are planning.

I can make either one but only at 6 PM (after I clock out). I can stay around 30-45 minutes and yep, I can bring along Flat Dee.

I know most of the people at the first DIS meet are home. Where are the pictures of the meet? Although everybody that was there had their families with them, only the real Disers are in the pictures that were taken. Otherwise the picture would have had about 50+ people in it.

One thing that was so great was lots of the older children or let's say younger adults met other Disers' offspring at the meet and started hanging around and doing the late nights at the parks together. We all came out of the meet with new friendships formed.

I can't tell you what s truly MAGICAL day it has been!! I will post all details when I get home but we received an amazing upgrade to a Lagoon View Club Level room!! We were greeted by Brett outside, have no idea how he knew who we were, and, after finding Teena, who is truly amazing, we were whisked away to the fifth floor. The service is incredible and everyone is just so darn nice!!

Right now, I am sitting on the beach at the Poly, sipping a pina colada, waiting for the fireworks to begin....just hanging out with my husband and two kids, 17 and 20. Everything is perfect, just needed to share with people who "get it"!! I'll post more when I can...Aloha for now, ha ha.

How wonderful for you all! Have a terrific time! :goodvibes

Hi Teena!!! I saw you post last night after work too. You must be so tired. I came on for a quick post since I have to work today...going through Disney withdrawal... :(

We just came home yesterday from a WONDERFUL vacation. It was our first stay at the BC! My family arrived on Friday the 6th and left very early in the morning (5:40am DME pickup!) yesterday (15th). With the exception of two days off, Teena worked all the days we were there. What a pleasure to meet her and get to chat with her throughout our trip. Teena, you are terrific...my entire family thinks you're the best!

I was one of the DISers at the meet on 8/8. I have to upload my photos and will hopefully get to that tonite. I think about 6 of us were able to attend. It was great...new friendships formed. My kids went to MK extra hours a couple of times with another DISer's kids and we spent a night in World Showcase with another couple and had a great time.

We all LOVED the resort! I'll have much more to say later!

Hi! I am chiming in, not because I can comment on YC or BC (its been 10 years since we stayed there) but I have stayed at the GF and the CR many times.

For my DS7, the CR is the ultimate resort. The first time he saw it, when he was 2, he was fascinated with the "hotel that ate the monorail" We have stayed there in the wing and the Tower and like them both (the tower more for obvious reasons, but the wing has the same decor and is still a great location for the price!) If you can get the CR, I would take it over the Poly in a heartbeat.

As for the GF, it is our VERY favorite resort in all of WDW. But after 3 stays in 2 years, we are kind of done with it (and I NEVER thought I would say this!) We stayed RPC (main building CL) last December and I am so glad we experienced it, but it not worth the price (and we stayed with a pretty hefty AP discount).

If you can get a discounted garden view room at the GF, that would bring the price in line with the Poly (and the CR was unavailable) then I would book the GF for the same reasons Teena said.

I can't remember exactly when you said you were going (I think it was in December?) but if it is a time of year when you wouldn't be swimming, then I would save YC/BC for another trip since SAB is one of the best assets of these resorts. The pool at the GF is pretty and the one at CR is improved (but still bleh) so I wouldn't feel bad about not getting to use either of them.

Good luck with your choice! But in the end, go with your gut and choose what is best for you and your family!

I just wanted to thank everyone in this thread who gave me very good and solid advice and let you all know that I was fully prepared to take it. I really was. I got up bright and early this morning to check out the new discounts ... And discovered that no monorail resorts were available at all for our travel dates in December for the room-only discount. But guess what was? Yacht Club! And for $1,200 less (for the same package) that we were currently paying at Polynesian with free dining.

So, though I gather Yacht is the less preferable for board members (Beach club availability was short one day we needed), I switched. (For us, $1,200 is a lot of money.) I'm gonna' keep checking for monorail resort discounts BUT for now we're officially booked at Yacht Club (club level).

So, a couple questions ...

How long DOES it take to get to Magic Kingdom by bus? We might go ahead and get a rental car anyway, just because we have Hertz points so it will cost us >$100 for the week. Is driving better/faster than taking a bus to the parks? What about going to other resorts for meals?

Can you walk to Hollywood Studios? Or is it better to take the boat?

From what I've read here it seems like Beach Club was just renovated. Is that accurate, and does it also apply to Yacht Club (fingers crossed)?

That is so awesome! Can't wait to see the photos!!!!

I can meet on either of those day, though I do think the 22nd would work better for me. I look forward to meeting everyone!

2 more days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YC and BC both seem to be completely booked for our visit.

Luckily we did book our room long ago, but were hoping to upgrade to a waterview, but there are not any available. I was just wondering if it is just crazy at BC when the resort is booked out?

I am a little worried that it will be so busy that we will never get a spot by the pool and it will be crazy busy.

We are going first two weeks of October and am thinking of moving to BWI for part of the trip (maybe a week at BC and a week at BWI) as BWI seems to have lots of rooms and the pool may not be as busy (my DS is really excited about the pool, but does like the look of both pools).

How is the BC when all of the rooms are booked out?
