Awesome updates Linda! Your pizza from WPE looks absolutely delicous! I've never been there, but I keep hearing all these wonderful reviews. Looks like I have another place to try in DTD. Can't wait to hear about Kona Cafe!!

Mmm the pizza from Wolfgang's looks great! I think WPE is underrated, but it's a good thing- for all that food and such good quality it's only a counter service option on the Disney Dining Plan!

The cinnamon roll looks heavenly. Next time you go to WDW get one from Main Street Bakery in MK- it's even larger than a Cinnabon and is the best cinnamon roll I've ever had- only costs $2 & change!

Looking forward to hearing about Kona!

WPE is really good, Kona Cafe coming up soon :)

Awesome dining report, thanks for sharing!

You are very welcome, thanks for taking the time to read :thumbsup2

Everybody knows that when you go to another country - the calories don't count!:rotfl:

If only that were true :rotfl:

Mmmmmmmmmm, Cinnabon - heavenly.

Our favourite morning snack when visiting Universal is Cinnabon Sticks :thumbsup2

How have I missed out on this Cinnabon?:confused3

I'll have to keep my eyes open when we visit Universal in August?:rolleyes1

Hi Karin
I'm not sure if Cinnabon is a huge chain in the US (perhaps someone can help me out here :confused3) but I thought that they were delicious :cool1:
I hear that the Main Street Bakery sells a fantastic Cinnamon Roll so I will certainly be heading there on out next trip. Oooh I could do with one right now

Cinnabon is definitely a huge chain. In about every mall here in Ohio!! Certainly very good though, probably a million calories on a plate, too! I have not had one in years, and now I'm really craving one!

OK, I need to start a campaign to open a Cheesecake Factory and a Cinnabon in London :rotfl:

Yeah a million calories but I like to think that I burn them off on the long flight from the UK

Linda, there is a Cinnabon in London. In fact, there is possibly more than one but I'm fairly sure there is one in the Trocadero Centre :thumbsup2

UKDEB made some cinnamon rolls last weekend when we went up there for a BBQ - they were absolutely delicious

Thank you - I think we will need to pay our aunt in Orpington a visit soon - cupcakes at Selfridges (Stefy posted some!! :cloud9:), Krispy Kreme and now Cinnabon - London here we come! ;)

I have totally enjoyed reading this report! Everything looks scrumptious and there were a few things on here that I had never seen before. I am not much of a drinker but that gator drink looked fantastic! And the Hawaiian one?! WOW!!! I may have to try some next time.

Yyyyuummmmyy! Thanks for all of the awesome reviews. I finally caught up (I've been busy earning free WDW gift cards on quickrewards!), and I'm looking forward to more!

And thanks for the reviews of the mini golf courses, sorry that you had to sacrifice yourself and let your hubby win! I really love mini golf, and since a voucher comes w/the package, when we go for my birthday in December, we will be going to the Summerland/Winterland course.

The cupcakes from Selfridges are awesome Karin. We treated ourselves to some when we went to London last month :thumbsup2

Oreo Cookie, Rocky Road and Ferrero Rocher - yum!

Happy Monday everyone :wave2:

Tonight we had a great evening planned with dinner at the Kona Café

Neither of us had ever been to the Polynesian Resort before so we decided that we would head over there early and check it out

After walking around the resort we thought it would be nice to grab a drink and head out to the pool area

So you may have noticed a picture of the wonderful Lapu Lapu in my opening post but here is a picture of me holding this alcoholic wonder to give you a sense of scale

IMG_0398-1-1.jpg

Yep, this drink is HUGE ………….. Two hands are required at all times :woohoo:

IMG_0399-1.jpg

‘Lapu Lapu - Myer's original dark rum and tropical fruit juices served in a fresh pineapple topped with Bacardi 151 rum’

The carved out Pineapple was full to the brim with liquid and it was quite a challenge walking out to the pool without spilling any

Note: If I had attempted to go and purchase a second one I doubt I would have managed this challenge

This was a delicious drink and although there was probably enough alcohol in this one beverage to stun a small Elephant at the Animal Kingdom, I decided that as it was served in a whole fruit it’s gotta be good for you right? :rolleyes1

DH had a Coke and we sat outside chatting to a lovely American lady who had won her stay at the Poly (concierge level) in a competition – how cool is that ?

As the time approached for our ADR at Kona, we headed back inside and checked in for dinner. We were handed a buzzer which started flashing about 5 minutes later and we were led to a great little booth table at the edge of the restaurant

Our server was soon with us and offered to take our drink order. DH just wanted some water and I decided on one of these

IMG_0401-1.jpg

‘Kona Cool Sundown - a refreshing blend of vodka, Chambord, and cranberry juice’

Mmm, this was another great cocktail. It didn’t seem to be too heavy on the alcohol (just as well after my Lapu Lapu :rotfl2:) so it was a really light and refreshing drink

Before our appetizers were delivered our server brought us our Pineapple Bread

IMG_0402-1.jpg

‘Pineapple Bread & Macadamia Nut Butter’

I know that everyone always says this but this bread and butter is just wonderful :cloud9: We really wanted to finish it all but knew that we had a lot of food to get through so resisted the temptation

Soon our appetizers arrived and we must have been really hungry as we had already began to tuck in before I realised I hadn’t taken a picture

DHs – appetiser ……………..

IMG_0403-1.jpg

‘Pot Stickers - wok-seared duck dumplings with creamy ginger soy sauce’

I think that there was originally four or five of them?

And for me ………….

IMG_0404-1.jpg

‘Lump Crab Cakes - with Asian tartar sauce and pineapple relish’

DH loved, loved, loved the Pot Stickers. He said that they were very light and that the duck had a wonderful flavour :thumbsup2

The lump crab cakes were very generously filled but I have to say I found the breading a little heavy. DH tried one and disagreed so it was purely a personal taste issue. Overall we were both very impressed with the quality and freshness of both dishes and the sauces we were given were the perfect accompaniments

Time for our Entrees – here is DHs dish

IMG_0406-1.jpg

‘Pomegranate Barbecued Pork Chop served with pan-roasted fingerling potatoes and braised Swiss chard’

Now DH doesn’t usually get over excited by food but he couldn’t stop talking about how tasty this dish was and claimed that it was the best meal he had eaten all trip. It’s funny that the two dishes he seemed to enjoy most were both Pork (one at Boma and now this) He very rarely orders pork at home as he tend to find it quite dry (not a problem with either of these restaurants) Needless to say he cleared his plate

I decided on the Miso Glazed Mahi Mahi

IMG_0405-1.jpg

Miso Glazed Mahi-mahi - served with Asian noodles and baby bok choy

Everything was perfectly cooked and the fish was moist and delicately flavoured.

I love the taste of Miso but this flavour didn’t seem to come through at all which meant that the dish was perhaps a little under seasoned for my taste. The Bok Choy was well prepared and still had a nice crunch to it and the noodles were delightful

As always we were just too full to order a dessert which was a shame as everything that was being delivered to other tables looked wonderful

Would we go back to Kona? …………….. Definitely, the atmosphere was great, our server attentive and the food was fresh and beautifully presented. I don’t think I would order the Mahi Mahi again but there were so many other great options I would be sure to find something I liked. DH would certainly find it difficult not to order the Pork again and next time we will make sure we save room for dessert

popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:: out of popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:: from me but 5 out of 5 for DH

We left Kona very full and very happy and did a quick loop of the monorail (I love doing this in the evening when it is quite) before heading back to our car for the short trip back to our hotel

Coming Up Next …………….. A taste of Morocco at Epcot

Great update Linda, I had been really looking forward to reading your thoughts on Kona as it is our one and only ADR for August.

We are really looking forward to dinner there and I plan to order the pork so I'm glad to know that your DH enjoyed it :thumbsup2

Thanks for another wonderful update!! The Lapu Lapu is ridiculous! I have never seen a bigger drink. No worries though, because the pineapple makes it very healthy ;). Your food at Kona looks very good! We are thinking about trying if for breakfast one morning.
