Vintage resort pics?

Here are a couple of the tickets from the 1979 trip to Disney. We stayed at the Fort Wilderness resort right around Easter.

I'm loving all the pic's!! I've only been to WDW once, and it was in September 1990 when I was 13. My dad's company had a villa of some kind that you could get for FREE that was on property, you just had to sign-up. It came with FREE tickets to MK, Epcot, and whatever DHS was called back then. So my parents, me, my sister, my brother, and my uncle (he had the frequent flyer tickets!) all went for about 5 days. The townhouse/villa had 2 levels, downstairs there was a 1/2 bath, full kitchen, living room (with a pull-out sofa), and dining room (with a murphy bed that pulled out of the wall that I slept on). Upstairs there were 2 bedrooms, one was a loft overlooking the area downstairs and I can't remember if there was two bathrooms or one? I remember that you could see fireworks from there at night, and for some reason I think it was near like Pleasure Island or something like that? I completely remember riding the monorail through the Contemporary. Does anyone know where this would have been?

We're taking our daughter for the first time this year for her first birthday (and our son will have just turned 1)...20 years after I went the first time!

My first trip to WDW was 1992 and I *refuse* to call that vintage. So no pictures to share. :rotfl:

However, I am immensely enjoying this thread.

Thanks to all who have posted! :worship:

These aren't exactly "vintage" but cool nonetheless:

The last one is the Villas at the Disney Institute.

I just checked my file of old slides that we recently scanned..and I have some good ones from the POly, River Country and WDW circa 1976 and 1979. How do I post pictures??

It sounds like you're talking about The Disney Village Resort/Disney Institute. It was demolished and replaced with Saratoga Springs. There's a photo of one of the townhouses in post #308.

Here is my first time at Disney World circa 1978. I was 3 at the time and we stayed at Poly. The wife and I are taking my kids for the first time in September and staying there. For my wifes first time to Disney (I think 1981) they stayed at Poly too. Kind of a family tradition, if anyone is going for the first time, we stay at Poly.

Anyway, on to the pictures.

In font of a store in MK. Does anybody know where? I'd like to know so I can take a "now" picture.

I beleive that's the old Magic Shop. They sold magic tricks and practical jokes along with the coolest halloween masks. We'd get one every year. It was by far my favorite shop in the MK. Alas, it does not exist anymore. I thought it was on Main St. but the reflections in the pic make it seem like it was near the castle. Maybe where the Tinkerbell shop was/is by the backside of the castle.

Good call on Sir Mickey's. Here's a current shot I found online. Looks like they've since added some landscaping in front of the window.

That is funny that they built a planter out front... did too many people walk through the window?!?

Have a great trip!
