Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

where is the DS FAQ?
:confused3
I am finally making the plunge this Christmas, but want some more info!
So anyone else play Toy Story Mania? I can't decide if we want to get this one. We liked the ride when we went this past August to WDW so I think it'll be good.
We bought Toy Story Mania the day it came out, my kids love it! It is very easy to play, but a little complicated to beat some of the levels. i can't figure out how to accomplish some of the goals that you need. But the kids love it, and we finally broke down and bought the 4th remote!

Just bought a Wii with the price drop. Looking to load up some games as cheaply as possible. I want something we all can play as a family and was hoping this would be good fun. My kids get frustrated though if it is too hard. Their ages are 7 and 10. Would this be a good buy for us? Are there different difficulty levels you can set? My son wants to play the drums so bad I hope maybe this will appease him :)

The nice thing about RB is it has a no-fail option! Then you won't fail out of songs if you aren't playing well.

We got RB when the kids were 13 and 10 and it's still a favorite. It's nice that they can play alone or we can all play along.

Just thought I would give everyone a heads up Toys R Us is running a buy two get one free promotion right now on video games

I am going to take advantage of this to get DD for Christmas Toy Story, Sports resort, and the new Disney SIng it.

Amazon is running the same special. So keep those eyes peeled for Christmas presents.

The only problem with RB is that it isn't cheap. You will be spending close to $150 just on RB stuff. Drums, Mic and 2 guitars if you 4 people to play. That is a hefty price if you are looking to load up on some cheap games. The Lego series is coming out with a Rock Band game that is suppose to be easier than the regular RB and will have songs that are appropriate for younger children. I don't know about you I do love really heavy metal (Korn, Slipknot, Deftones, Metallica) but not real sure if I want my 10 year old playing anything from those bands. Good luck in your quest and come back and ask questions about games you are thinking of.

We opened Wii Fit Plus today and now I'm wondering if I need to keep my Wii Fit disk? It seems that it pulled all of our Wii Fit information out of the Wii's memory so we can still access those games and activities even using the Wii Fit Plus disk. I'll keep it if we need to, but don't want to keep duplicates if I don't have too, KWIM? Thanks!

Do you have this? I went ahead and got it, we love Mario games but we do have a couple that have sat unplayed since we got our Wii almost 2 years ago. I hope this one is a good one.

My kids, especially my ds loved, Super Mario Galaxy. A nice thing is that if you finish you get Rosalina for the Mario Kart game. I guess it is time to pass on though. He has gone all the way through about 3 times and has not played since. Oh, it is worth finishing not only for Rosalina but for the ending video.

We love Toy Story Mania, especially me...it is the only game I can actually get a high score on...so far.:thumbsup2 I am sure they will beat me soon. (I have the high score for mole stomp on Outdoor Challenge too:rotfl2:You would not want to see a video of me playing that:rotfl2:)

Wow... I am here seeking Guitar Band vs Rock Band questions...

We want the complete set. GH 5 looks great, and I love the idea that if they all want to play guitar they can (provided they have extra guitars of course) But at the same time my kids are on the younger side (10,8,6) so I fear GH 5 might be too much for them.

RB Beatles peeks my interest, but my oldest prefers the harder stuff...

How much compatibility is there between the two versions? Do more GH things work with RB instruments or do more RB music work better with GH's things?

Which system is easier at the younger levels... Most sites rate the Expert levels and not the beginner levels.

Which drum set is sturdier?

I hope someone answers your questions since I have all the same ones :) My girls are 7 and 10 and I am not sure if GH or RB is better for their age.

Well I decided to purchase rock band 2. My budget way is I am buying it used off craigslist. My husband is going to pick it up tomorrow. Getting it for $75 so that is better than what I was bidding on ebay. I have decided to ask grandparents for mario cart ( I already bought an extra wheel, nunchuck and remote bundle at Costco).

If you are buying RB2 used, I recommend checking to be sure that the instruments work before you and your kids get ready to play it. The instruments don't last forever - after a lot of play some of the buttons stop registering, and we've gone through several guitars already. (We've had to replace both RB and GH guitars; ours are for the 360 though). It's very disappointing to settle in to play only to discover that you won't be able to for whatever reason.

Anyone have Sing It? How is it?

Also, new Wii owner here. I plan to buy the extra remote and the battery charger. Will I be good to start off with that?

I'm new to the whole Wii phenomenon (bought it at the price drop of $199), so please forgive my dumb question, but....Will I need the guitar/drums for Lego rock band? I am assuming yes, but wanted to check. That seems like "crazy money" to me for all of the equipment. TIA!

Lego Rock Band (like RB and RB2) will use a microphone, drums, and up to 2 guitars. You will need any of those that you want to use. So if you don't think you'll be using drums you won't need those. If you only want to use a microphone then that's all you'll need. If you want to be able to play all of the instruments, then it might actually be cheaper to buy a Rock Band or Rock Band 2 bundle (if you can find one on sale) than it would be to buy all the instruments individually. Then you'd also have another game besides Lego RB that would use the instruments. (This is assuming that they don't sell a Lego bundle with instruments; if they do then that might be cheaper.)

Im sure that this has been answered some where but I figured this was the best place to ask. I want wii and wii fit and wii active for xmas. I had a baby last year and have ZERO time to go tot the gym so im hoping this will help with the last 15 lbs! What do I need to buy? What is a waste of money? The console is alot so I want to make sure I am buying anything on top of that that is worth it! Thanks in advance for the much needed help!!!!!!

The list of things you need to have is in the first post on this thread.

From what I'm hearing Wii Active is really great, so you may want to start with just that instead of getting Wii Fit. If you don't use Wii Active, you won't use Wii Fit and vice versa.

Alright guys I'm going to try and find the time to add a RB/GH FAQ to the beginning of the thread. We're answering the same questions over and over.

Would someone else consider making up a Wii Fit/ Active FAQ?
