Like most of you know, my name is Sonya. It's Russian/Greek for "wisdom", and it's derived from Sophia. I found this interesting tidbit, which TOTALLY describes me -

The Mayans of the fifteenth century named their main wives Sonya as a sign of respect, intelligence or sign that she is a virtuous woman. Mothers prayed that the name Sonya was placed on their daughter for anyone named Sonya is Strong, Independent and Wise.

I was named after my mom's cousin, Sonia. I don't know if there is any special reason why I was named what I was named, but I think I have a hunch. My mom was always telling me that her and her cousin were very close, they confused others when they were younger on who was who.

What does it mean? It's Russian for Eugenia, but I think it means "noble" or something.
Are you named after anyone? I don't know... probably not.
Is there any special meaning to your name? My dad is Ukrainian and wanted me to have a Ukrainian name.

Obviously I don't like my name; I'd much prefer to be called ZHENYA.

What does it mean? "God's gracious gift." (something along those lines..it also means something else, too).
Are you named after anyone? Nope, not that I know of. All I do know is that my mother knew somebody when she was a child growing up that had that name, but I didn't get it from that.
Is there any special meaning to your name? Just that both my parents loved it and I love it, too.

Are you named after anyone? I was named after the song "Poor Little Alison" By Gordan Lightfoot. He's my Dad's favorite singer.

What does it mean? Ryan = King, Joseph = May The Lord increase,
Columbkille = Dove of the Church

Are you named after anyone? After Saints Joseph and Columbkille. Ryan isn't after anyone that I know of.

Ryan is my non-ecclesiastical name. Joseph was my second/saint name given at birth. When confirmed into the Church I chose Columbkille as my second saint name for a number of reasons.
