Okay, can you come to my house? Not for Megan, but for my husband...he's really bad about cleaning stuff....
Definitely!!
You are a brave girl banning the TV!! That would never go down in our house. Jay's brain is too busy to sit in silence. He would be so distracted by the lack of noise that he wouldn't be able to HAVE a conversation. We go on "dates" away from the house and television so we can talk. It works better for my type A, obsessive compulsive, but completely darling husband!!!
See Miss Cammie and Tinka Bell advice below...they beat me to it!!!
My husband and I just finished a marriage seminar but one of the segments was about parenting. We talked/learned about "Kid CEO's" and how to remove the kids from the corner office. They tend to sit down in the big leather chair and try to direct us around as if we, the adults, are they're servants! While we don't need to "fire" them, we do need to demote them and take back our God-given power. This way we can "train" them up, modeling adult behavior, help them with choices and in the end, send them on their way. Remember, ultimately, they are only on loan and they should grow up and LEAVE!
that's good advice! I tell parents who bring their "out of control" children to see me to STOP letting the kids drive the boat! We're not their friends, we don't have to worry about them "liking" us...we are their parents and our job is to raise people who can start their adults lives without a chip on their shoulder a mile wide thinking they are ENTITLED to something.
Have y'all seen the commercials for Dr. Phil's "Brat Camp"...oh my word...these children are examples of permissiveness gone WILD. It handicaps kids...giving them everything and allowing them to dictate to their parents what they will and will not do...
The word NO is our friend!
Today we hit the zoo for a preschool field trip. The girls had a great time and really enjoyed their "zoo dresses." We even saw a baby elephant named Samson. He was so cute!
so so so so SO cute!!! as usual! darling!!!
Here is what I made today, completely my own idea (ha!). I did the more modest halter top from CarlaC with elastic thread in the back instead of one piece of elastic and I like the way it fits, although I liked the other one too. I can't tell much of a difference (maybe I did the old one, lol).
I don't like it though. It doesn't seem like it matches the pettiskirt at all. I should have picked a solid color for the ruffle, I think the stripes are too distracting. I don't know if I should start again and chuck it or what. I am a little depressed, I thought she could wear it to the princess lunch on her birthday and now I have to start over.
awww, I like it!!!! Megan seems to like it too!!! I think we all got that petti!! I don't know if Sally will wear it...unless I MAKE her...which I might...b/c i'm MEAN!
maybe a plain tank with an applique on it for the petti and make a cutie skirt to go with the halter?
my untrained eye thinks it looks great...but I know what you mean...if it's bugging you, then it will continue to bug you and then you can't have any fun watching her wear it!
SO get that!!!
If you can do skirts, this is the easiest skirt I have made for my 5th grader. I'm sure you could just wing it but I think Teresa put my instructions in her bookmarks.
it looks cute with a t-shirt or peasant top--you could make it with the solid pink and the peasant top the same, and do the border out of a print and the peasant top sleeves to match the border, then it would kinda look like a dress.
or as someone mentioned, you could do the pillowcase/halter style and make it longer as a dress. She would probably need a tshirt under it though. (ignore the squinty face)
LOVE the "big girl" outfits! Again...so stuff I would wear myself!!!
I like your halter. I think it came out great! I agree with you though, that it doesn't seem to go. I didn't think mine went with the pettiskirt either..LOL. but I guess the problem is more that the fabrics are different. It's hard combining cotton with a dressier fabric. I would make her a little twirl skirt to go with the halter and maybe make something else. You seem to whip them out faster than all of us...I'm struggling to just get a skirt done. I have a cold and don't like sewing when I'm sick...or doing much else
I think we are passing germs over the Disboards! I sound like a SEA lion with my barking cough and I'm sniffling and sneezing. I am NOT happy. I am in a fight with everyone until my cold goes away...b/c THAT is the rule.
*ahem*
and people have to bring me stuff...and tell me I'm pretty...
*SNIFFLE*
feel better soon dahlin!!!
here are the photos of Lily's pettiskirt top. It is just a tank top from Old Navy with a crown applique. I used my Aurora crown from my cricut and just traced it onto my heat 'n' bond. It was a little tricky to applique for a novice like me
Then I glued some bling on with E6000--my first ever experience with E6000--I loved it! I just hope the washing machine does too!
Some day I'll have a photo with a model. I used the sparkly pink fabric from Joanns for the crown and it matched really well (especially after all that ironing with the heat 'n' bond).
And here are my ribbon shorts. Lily had nothing to match this t-shirt so I had to make something. I haven't tried them on her yet.
I LOVE the shorts!!! Are they difficult to make?
(I ask that like I'm not afraid of the sewing machine!!)
How hold was your oldest DD when little Lily was born? (if you don't mind my nosiness!)
WOO HOO! Just booked my October
Disneyland trip! I even booked the Disneyland Hotel because I have wanted to stay there ever since I was a little girl and the monorail stopped there (wish it still did!) And I think at some point in my life I should really experience each of the 3 DLR hotels, right? Especially since I hardly ever get to go to Disneyworld!
WOW!!! The Disneyland hotel ROCKS!!! It's kinda old school in a classic Disney way...I haven't been since FOREVER ago...it may have been refurbished since i was there, but it was so fun to stay there!! I think the monorail still went to the hotel when I was there...it was about five or six years ago...it doesn't stop there anymore? What do Disneyland-ers think? It's a RIDE or something?!
two years ago I went and got to stay at the Grand Californian...VERY nice...it's like the Wilderness Lodge kinda...it's RIGHT smack in the middle of Downtown Disney!
YAY for Disney anything!!!
