Can anyone tell me in detail about the path between CR and MK? Is it safe at night? Well-lit? How long is the walk?

Tx!

The path runs alongside the road where the Disney buses enter and exit the Magic Kingdom and follows the monorail line. From what I remember it is well-lit but it is absolutely safe at night. The walk is maybe about a 10 minute stroll.

There is absolutely nothing better in my view than being able to walk to and from MK and I am going to miss it this year when we stay at AKL.

Oh I have another question, how is the food at the Sand Bar? Is it a good place to get a counter service type meal? Are there tables there? Can you take it to go?

The sand bar was pretty good as far as a CS meal goes. There are a few tables by the order window and you could take it to go. Typical burgers/sandwiches.
:thumbsup2

Do have any information on the massages available at the Olympiad Fitness Centre at the CR?

Any information would be great!

The only thing I can find is the recreation page on wdwinfo.com where the talk about the Olympiad Fitness Center and what they offer. I could not find their direct number so maybe you should call the Contemporary and asked to be transfered their. Incase you don't have it the direct number for the Contemporary is 407-824-1000. Besides that here the link to wdwinfo.com page where it mentions the Olympiad Fitness Center. http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/Resorts/contemprecreation.htm

If I were going to have a massage, I would go to the GF. They have a wonderful spa and lots of options.

The opulent spa takes guest service to the highest level with a broad, balanced program of beautifying and well-being services such as facials, manicures, pedicures, massage therapy, body treatments, and nutrition and fitness counselling. For scheduling information, please call (407) 824-2332.

Just back from a long weekend at the CR. We stayed on the 11th floor in the Tower.

Some observations:

1. Our first time back to CR after its renovation. Room is beautiful, but I agree with other posters that it's not really conducive for families, mainly in that there's not enough storage space. Small drawers, very little counter space in bathroom, no hooks near shower. We're a family of 4 and our stuff seems to take over hotel rooms. CR room has great design but lots of wasted space. And for whatever the reason, the bathroom fan cycled on and off all the time. It got to be annoying.

2. Love the Online Concierge. Great to have free internet access.

3. Grab and Go, while in a good location, is so small that it must get really crowded when the resort is booked full.

4. Excellent CMs at desk, as always. We had a notice of a return booking discount code on our computer, but I failed to note the details. When I asked at the Concierge desk about it, at first the CM couldn't find anything (he called CRO and got a total runaround--he said he now knew how the guests feel! ), but he got help from another CM and they worked for a while til they got us the information. Great service.

5. Mousekeeping was just okay. Mousekeeper never restocked our shampoos/soaps/lotions (4 day stay--family of 4--we went through it fast!) Spotty on replacing used washcloths daily. Didn't clean our room one day til after supper!

6. Elevators went out of order one evening. Buttons didn't work, and although there was a CM stationed in each elevator, they didn't stop at every floor and elevator service took forever. Big pain when you're on the 11th floor! (CM told us it was due to a guest smoking in one of the elevators. Grrr! Side note--even though there's a no smoking policy in WDW resorts, we smelled smoke throughout our visit.)

7. Excellent mojitos in the bar. Try 'em! :thumbsup2

8. Transportation around WDW was fast and efficient. We seemed to always luck out on reaching the stop just as a monorail or bus was pulling in. However, I wasn't pleased with the amount of time we had at the airport before our flight. I'm not sure if ME needs to allow more time or MCO needs to expand their security line, but it was total pain to get through security, and we didn't have much time before our flight left.

I hope I don't sound too petty. I know I like to read all the good, bad and ugly about a resort that I'm considering.
We still love the CR--the MK view, the monorail, the short walk to the MK (really, that walk gets shorter every trip!), room service coffee in the morning, the shops on the Concourse, the CMs, the marina area and hammocks--all will keep us returning there! :)

Thanks so much! I've had so much fun reading your posts on this thread. I finally caught up to my own again!
My family and I stayed in a room facing Bay Lake back in December 2001 and I believe our room was on the 10th floor. As with all Tower rooms on either side it depends on where your room is as to what noise their might be. If your on the side where Chef Mickey's you might hear them singing from their, however I don't think it's that bad. If your on the side where the stores I don't think you will hear to much coming from there. As for the fridge it fits a lot of drinks and in the past my family and I have bought salads when the Food & Fun Center was still opened and kept them in there until we wanted to eat them.

I am wondering if it is difficult to book a tower room at CR. I have been on the wdw site trying to set up an itinerary for June 2008, just to see what the total cost would be this June. We are actually going next June (2009) but I like to plan ahead and estimate what we need to budget. TMI?
Anyway, there are no rooms (with package) for my supposed dates in 08.
My questions are:
How far ahead will I need to book a room for June 09?
Will AAA book way in advance?
Is the CR pool area dreadfully hot in June?
Thank you. I am a bit naive about the ways of the CR. :cutie:

If your heart is set on CRTower (and I can understand why it would be!:cloud9: ), I'd recommend booking it ASAP.
Don't know about AAA--give 'em a call.
And we've been there in June/July/August--it's hot. But not dreadfully so. I believe there are pool chairs in the shade, and a nice umbrella drink from the bar should also help keep you cool!:)

Thanks DisneyDotty, for the CR tips, and for your great trip report! I had no idea the tower fills up so quickly. I am looking out my window at rapidly falling snow, and dreaming of the umbrella drink by the pool at CR...:cloud9:

We JUST book CR tower for July 2008 and found that a few days could make a big difference. We just sat and adjusted our week there until we found the best price and room availability. We tried AAA but found the Disney site to be our best way to go. The saving from AAA wasn't a big deal for us because we need to fly Northwest to get the departure times we like and they have no Northwest flights. I also think they might not have the payment plan that we get with Disney, but I'll have to check with my DH about that one. So, all said and done, booking at this time can be done but will be harder, so the earlier you can do it the better.

I had priced out my last trip to the CR on the Disney website first, then went to AAA. AAA did save me between $500-$600 so I felt it was well worth it, and I booked approx 11 months in advance. I did miss not being able to check my reservation number and call Disney directly with any questions I had (although 2 days before travel I called to ensure my room request was on file). As for a payment plan, $200 was due when I booked the trip. The rest was due 45 days prior to travel. I believe this is the same policy Disney has if you go through them direct.

For my families upcoming stay there this August there were no rooms in any category available for the 1st 3 weeks of August, which is why when there were dates available we took it. I am sure later on more rooms might open up, but it was still hard to even get the reservation because we had to change our dates around and I am talking about doing all this months in advance.
