Your secret revealed about the disney dining plan

Get the refillable mugs

Do people really find these mugs worth the investment? We've never purchased one before. I just couldn't see walking all of the way to the foodcourt each time I wanted a drink. Of course, we drive down and usually take a cooler with bottled water and sodas, so that's probably why. I've seen so many people talk about the beauty of refillable mugs, though.

We haven't. We stay in DVC villas, and between stocking the fridge with cans of soda and bottles of water, and having a coffee maker with lots of coffee-making suppliers, we've never found any value in the idea of refillable mugs.

We have for my hubby who lives on Soda (and coffee in the mornings). I stick with Water and Lemonade most of the day so I buy a bottle of water and refill it at the water fountains. Since we are renting a car I plan on buying a few cases of water and keeping them cold in our fridge though.

Last time we went he did get his money's worth and this time we are staying longer (10 nights) so we'll easily get our money's worth.

We took afternoon breaks at the resort, but after eating we all were SOO Full from lunch, that instead of taking a cake and bringing it back to the room, (after we had like 7 carrot cakes, 5 choc cakes, it was getting to be a bit much)

So the lady that was ringing us up, told us a tip, to get our receipt stamped and come back later that SAME day to get our snack.

So we did that for the rest of the week.

Went back to the parks, had a ball, and on the way back to our room, we would stop for Ice Cream Sundaes, Shakes, etc, whatever we wanted. Nice way to end the day!

Great advice re: DDP from the thread Dining Plan Problems

Do not link your cc with your room key OR have a key (usually for the kids) that is not linked to the cc and labeled NOT FOR CHARGING and pay for your meals with that card. Too many people are reporting that they told the CM to use the meal credits, but instead discovered their cc was charged!

so true
we do this as well

For us, we usually just buy 2 for our morning coffee and on occasion a drink at night. We never get them for the kids.

I dont uderstand the ones they sell at the water parks...there is no way you'd get your moneys worth out of those.

? Can you use the snack credits for beignets at POFQ? What other breakfast items can you purchase using the SC?

That is a great tip. Must write down now as I will forget.

I was just looking over the confirmed snack credits list and noticed that in MGM, one can get coffees/cappacinos, etc. at the Writer's Stop. That could be a very good tip for those seeking a java jolt. However, can anyone confirm that their coffees actually taste good? I know most places around WDW, you can't get a good cup o' joe!

About using snack credits for bottled water - are there any gallon bottles in the gift shops or anything? I just thought of it now - my guess is "no". Has anyone ever thought to check? It certainly would be nice for refilling water bottles!

It's a 'no', in my experience. The biggest bottles of water I've seen there are 48 oz, and I don't know if they were on the Dining Plan or not.

If someone has already posted this I'm sorry, I've got the Monday lazyies. This is what we are going to try to do with the kids and hopefully it will work. Instead of eating a big breakfast, lunch and then dinner. We are going to get seatings (hopefully) for a late breakfast (Ohana's, CRT, etc.) so it will be almost like a lunch. That way we can use one credit (or OOP) to almost cover two meals. Then have a snack mid afternoon before going to dinner. I hope this works, but we shall see in October.

This is a GREAT TIP! I had no idea that you could save your cs dessert to use later in the day. I figured we would probably be skipping our lunch desserts & then use our snack credits later on for ice cream or some other treat that we're usually too full to eat after lunch but sure do crave later on. This way we could use our snack credits to get something to take back for next day breakfast..I hear the pastry items at several places are really good. Do you have to return to the same counter service place where you ate...That's probably a dumb question cause I guess you'd have to since they offer differednt desserts at different places but just wondering how far the Disney Magic travels.

Confirmed!
The coffee is quite good, and my DH & DD enjoyed the Frozen Coffee stuff:woohoo:

enjoy,
Michelle in NY, looking foward to stopping there for Mother's Day:goodvibes

Most buffets I have seen have a sign or at least a rule that you cannot take food away from the restaurant. If you could people could pay for one meal and then take enough home for the rest of the meals and no one would ever have to cook again. :cool1:

My fil once requested that I serve seafood on my family lunch buffet holiday dinner. Being on a limited income in those days it was difficult but I complied. He was first in line for the food and naturally he picked up the tray with all the seafood and took it to his seat at the table. As awful as it was at the time it was worth the expense just for all the times I have told this story the past couple of decades. :lmao:

Slightly Goofy

That's the same question I have. Anyone know what happens when your get your receipt stamped for a dessert later?

I think Mel6197 was referring to their resort food court. It began with stamping your receipt for ice cream that you could get it immediately after your meal, and it sounds like it has grown into allowing you to come back at the end of the day to pick up your ice cream before heading back to your room for the night. I don't know if it would be a problem getting something other than ice cream--probably not, but then you could always get a piece of cake at lunch/dinner and put it in your room for later. Unless you were at a value resort, and needed to keep it refrigerated.

Yes. And keep in mind that this isn't part of Dining Plan procedures -- each counter service place decides for itself whether to offer this level of generosity, and, if so, how they'll keep track of it.
