I've been asked to join a book club that meets for the first time next week. The hostess has planned to provide cupcakes at each meeting, and guests are to bring wine. I'm not a wine expert, so I hope I can get some advice here on what wine would be best to have with cupcakes.

I am not a wine expert either so take what I say with a grain of salt. Since you are having cupcakes I would avoid a sweet wine, so no rieslings or gewurtz. I would bring a pinot grigio or a chardonnay if you are having vanilla cupcakes. If chocolate cupcakes I would bring a red wine, maybe a shiraz?

If all else fails just ask the people at your local liquor store. Good Luck!:thumbsup2

I'm going to say just the opposite! ;) With cupcakes, I'd have a sweet wine. A moscato would be nice. Sparkling wine would be extra fun - maybe a sparkling white zinfandel or Rosa Regale. :thumbsup2

Wine and cupcakes? Ewww.
Wine and cheese/crackers taste a heck of a lot better together. :goodvibes

My jaws are cringing just thinking about biting into a sweet cupcake and washing it down with a sweet glass of wine.

Maybe it's because I don't like dry wine that much, but it seems to me that after a sweet cupcake, it would taste sour. You know, how lemonade tastes sour after you eat something sweet.

Allthe guests are bringing wine? That sounds to me like a bit of overkill! I don't see wine + cupcakes. I think I'd have to skip the cupcakes;)
I suppose that you could ask someone in the liquor store for a suggestion of what wine pairs with the cupcakes. I might be inclined to bring some crackers and cheese with my wine.

I'd do Prosecco. It's sparkling but crisp, not sweet.

Have you seen the commercial for some business credit card where the woman opened a restaurant that serves wine, beer, and cupcakes? Not a combination I would have come up with. :confused3

Barefoot makes a nice Sweet Red, not too sweet.

Thanks for the suggestions. It's funny that some of you are suggesting dry wines and some think sweet would be best. I did a little research online, and I got the same differing opinions there as well. I agree that wine and cupcakes is an odd choice of menu, but since it's her sandbox, I guess we'll all just play along. ;)

a good shiraz-or of course port with chocolate desert ( port and chocolate yummmmmmmmmmy)
citrus flavored cakes- a crisp white like savignon blanc
spice or carrot cake-a light or medium body red like pinot noir

I love wine and think this is a nasty idea-lol

How about Cupcake brand wine. They make a bunch of them:

:confused3 I know cupcakes are trendy and all but I think that's taking it a bit too far. Cupcakes and coffee? OK! Cupcakes and ice cold milk? Yes please! Cupcakes and wine? Uh... no, thanks.

The sweetness of the cupcakes will make any wine taste less sweet, which is why I am favoring those who suggest a sweeter wine (to make up for the loss). A moscato would be good, however, I might suggest a sparkling white as I think it would negate the overly sweet properties of the cupcake without tasting too sour.

I am going to a Cupcakes and Cocktails bridal shower next week. That should be interesting.

Cupcakes and wine is the new trendy thing

I really love Moscato, also another trend. We do cupcakes and Moscato at bunco
